The Cancer Lifeline Cookbook

Rate this book
After 30 years of providing counseling and support for people living with cancer, the Cancer Lifeline organization knows that one of the main areas of interest for patients and their families is food and nutrition. What foods have been shown to help prevent the spread of cancer? What are the nutritional "rules" for people with cancer? In answer, this new edition of the organization's cookbook presents up-to-date nutritional information (including the Top Ten Super Foods that may protect and fight against cancer) along with practical strategies for making healthy eating a daily practice and suggestions for reducing the side effects of treatment. It features 100 easy-to-make recipes from the nation's top chefs and from some cancer patients and survivors, including Blueberry Breakfast Cake, Honey-Glazed Green Beans with Almonds, and Citrus Chicken. These resources and more make it a natural choice for cancer survivors, people living with cancer, and those interested in a health-conscious diet.

Informative but fails to mention hemp seed as a source of protein. This book has good information but is very contradictory in the recipes selected that feature most of the things that should be avoided (sugars, butter, white flour). So while the information IS helpful the recipes are a let down, and that's pretty much why i got this book.

This is a great book and perhaps the only one out there for people living with cancer rather than cancer prevention. It is easily digestible (no pun intended) at times which can be overwhelming for the newly diagnosed. The best part of the book are 20-30 pp. dedicated to what to eat and drink for side effects of chemo (according to each side effect, some of which can be present before chemo but after radical surgery). The recipes are aimed at optimizing health and cutting out sugars and fats (which can support cancer growth) while incorporating cancer fighting foods. All of the recipes are simple to make and are thus extremely useful for those who have to cook for themselves while going through chemo or also for those who are caretakers but may not have a lot of time on their hands. None of the recipes compromise on taste though a few need adjustments (which careful reading and previous cooking experience can catch but should be easy for even novice cooks). Highly recommended.

Good book to read if you have cancer or know someone who does. It gives tips and ideas of what to eat or drink following the different treatment. It has simple recipes that are easy to follow, and it tells to what certain foods will do for you and why you should eat them.
