I really enjoyed this one. I was actually was a little nervous to read this one when I read that our main character Cassie poses as a courtesan in order to get to the bottom of a family mystery. Luckily, it was all handled really well and there are some fun moments between Cassie and Lord Mumford. The story was really enjoyable and moved along at a nice pace. I liked the relationship between Cassie and Lord Mumford, even if he is a tad bossy. From the moment he meets her he is drawn to her and suspects she is hiding something and is determined to get to the bottom of it. Overall, I loved it, a very fun regency.
an older regency with great wit and charm, vaudeville villains, an excellent wing man for Mumford who is always beforehand in the action. sufficient reviews tell the story of a stubborn Lady who is the target of a fraud that will rob of her estate. Going to London, posing as a courtesan, Mumford becomes involved in typical alpha male over reach when he first encounters Cassie. Tracking down the faux courtesan he roosts in her drawing room making certain of her safety. Finally after attempts on her life he moves her to a townhouse, still barking orders. Cassie is not going to end her cause celebre of finding the fraud and exposing the perpetrators. Mumford to the rescue and a happy, quite unexpected ending. well done.
The hero is just too full of himself, expecting ladies to fall at his feet. She is supposedly a respectable young lady without a woman's influence but that does not excuse her masquerading as a cyprian. I can't stand it when the heroine is allegedly so smart and then does the stupidest actions, which require her to be rescued by the hero. Just too convenient. Ugh.
I am a fan of Debra Raleigh's Regencies, but this one falls short. Obviously, Ms. Raleigh learned a lot about her craft over the years. The Regency period is not accurately portrayed in this one and the characters lack depth of development.
