The Words and Inspiration of Mother Teresa is part of the new Me We book series from Blue Mountain Arts. Inspired by the life and philosophy of one of the 20th century s most remarkable humanitarians, this book combines compelling photographs of Mother Teresa with quotations from her most inspiring speeches and writings to capture the true essence of her timeless messages of peace, acceptance, and love. The book also includes an in-depth biographical essay by South African writer/novelist Mike Nicol and an introduction by Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
Mother Mary Teresa Bojaxhiu[6] (born Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu, Albanian: [aˈɲɛzə ˈɡɔndʒɛ bɔjaˈdʒiu]; 26 August 1910 – 5 September 1997), honoured in the Catholic Church as Saint Teresa of Calcutta,[7] was an Albanian-Indian[4] Roman Catholic nun and missionary.[8] She was born in Skopje (now the capital of North Macedonia), then part of the Kosovo Vilayet of the Ottoman Empire. After living in Skopje for eighteen years, she moved to Ireland and then to India, where she lived for most of her life.
In 1950, Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity, a Roman Catholic religious congregation that had over 4,500 nuns and was active in 133 countries in 2012. The congregation manages homes for people who are dying of HIV/AIDS, leprosy and tuberculosis. It also runs soup kitchens, dispensaries, mobile clinics, children's and family counselling programmes, as well as orphanages and schools. Members take vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience, and also profess a fourth vow – to give "wholehearted free service to the poorest of the poor."[9]
Following her death she was beatified by Pope John Paul II and canonized by Pope Francis.
This book is so inspiring. What Mother Teresa started out doing helping the poor, homeless, and the sick was a trying time but as you read her story from her 18 to her 87yrs of life you will see the works of God in all she did and all her Missionaries around the world. She did not want to be looked at as famous, what she wanted was for people to open their hearts, eyes and love the unloved. The same people you step over on the streets or in subways she wants you to stop ask if they are ok give them a smile or even something to eat. Show they are loved because they deserve it just as you do....She was so Humble and I love that about her. I'm a Christian and I don't backdown or shy away from or apologize for who I believe in and that's GOD. He is my Father, brother, sister, and my best friend because I do not start a day without him or end a day praising him for all he has allowed me to have and allowed me to enjoy each day and asking for forgiveness of my daily sins even if I don't remember them he always reminds and forgives.... Mother Teresa was one of the Humblest people that I know of who cared so much for all the lowest of the low as they are called by many and made them feel they were the most important of all because she was Gods too, and in that if we just did our part in this world we would not see homelessness run rampant in every state and city.. While your out today or tomorrow or any day give that one person a smile , a Hi, a cup of coffee, food, or just ask them how they are doing that alone might make them feel like someone anyone cares...Recommend to all Gina Clabo
This is a coffee table book of quotes. So if you’re looking at your Goodreads challenge in December and panicking, feel free to knock this one out in under an hour 😆.
St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta was an incredible philanthropist to say the least, and here you will find her little sayings on love of neighbor and promotion of peace. Just note that you could write this book yourself in a day after a few google searches.
I’ve heard that Come Be My Light: The Private Writings of the Saint of Calcutta is a great book if you’re looking to read about MT.
It was a really short read but enough to bring tears to my eyes. This book contains a short anecdote of Mother Teresa's life and deeds, and the rest are quotes. I was so moved by Mother Teresa's life and example. She inspires me to be a better human being - kinder, more capable of loving, and more willing to get out of my comfort zone and serve others.
I may not have been among the homeless, the sick, and the dying in Calcutta, but she has surely touched my life. ❤️
"If we really want to love others, we must first begin to love one another in our own home. Love begins at home, and so from here-from our own home-love will spread to my neighbor, in the street I live, in the town I live, in the whole world."
“We can do no great things, only small things with great love.”
The book is a collection of quotations by Mother Teresa, a nun who did immense works of charity. She encouraged her fellow believers to help the poor and to spread love among each other.
This is a neat book that should be given out for free to everybody on this planet because, honestly, everybody needs to know the message in here.
That said, being raised Christian, I already found her words to be deeply rooted in my upbringing; which would probably explain why I found it to be a little bit repetitive.
Always thought provoking quotes by Mother Teresa, and her favourite line that you should never do big things, but small things with great love....lots of quotes in here that made me ponder, and i'm re-reading it again for sure...that simple sari bordered lady has changed the face of the world...
I love these short biography books, by Desmond Tutu. These books are short and to the point but packed with great info about the profiled person. I love them especially for their quotes of wisdom.
