A non-fiction book that reads like a thriller, as well as an uncompromising portrayal of unbridled greed and ambition, this unauthorized biography of Nina Brink is a must-read for anyone interested in the excesses of the stock market and the implosion of the dotcom bubble in the early years of the new millennium. Though the focus of his book is the buildup to the Initial Public Offering (IPO) of internet service provider World Online, Journalist Eric Smit does a great job of dissecting all the steps in Brink's career leading up to this disastrous emission. While Brink's hunger for wealth and status is central to the story, the rest of the cast demonstrate an at least equal level of greed, and the resulting picture of high finance and investor operations is disturbing and harrowing. If this is how the high rollers in international corporate finance operate, it's no wonder the financial world is in such a state. Highly recommended!
