In the frozen north, a killer stalks the night -- Carnivora the Winged Scavenger! Can Tom rally the people of Tavania to beat Malvel's evil army? If not, the land will be destroyed, and he will never see Avantia again...
Adam Blade is the house name for the Working Partners Ltd. ghostwriters who write the Beast Quest and Sea Quest series.
Adam Blade is in his late twenties, and was born in Kent, England. His parents were both history teachers and amateur artists, and Adam grew up surrounded by his father’s paintings of historic English battles – which left a lifelong mark on his imagination. He was also fascinated by the ancient sword and shield that hung in his father’s office. Adam’s father said they were a Blade family heirloom.
As a boy, Adam would spend days imagining who could have first owned the sword and shield. Eventually, he created a character – Tom, the bravest boy warrior of them all. The idea for Beast Quest was born.
When Adam grew up and decided that he wanted to be a writer, he was stuck for ideas – until he remembered the old sword and shield, and the imaginary boy he had created when he was young. Adam decided to bring Tom fully to life so that readers could go on the kind of adventures that he always wanted to when he was that age… And still does, even though he’s grown up!
When he’s not writing Beast Quest books, Adam enjoys visiting museums and ancient battle sites. His main hobbies are fencing and football. He also spends a lot of time at home running around after his two exotic pets – a tarantula named Ziggy, and a capuchin monkey named Omar. These little rascals were the inspiration for two of the Beasts that Tom faces on his Quest – Arachnid and Claw.
Sadly, Adam does not have his own Fire-Dragon or Horse-Man. But he really wishes he did!
I liked this book because it think the story was very good. I didn't like the part when Tom almost failed and was stuck under Carnivora. But Elena saved him with arrows. I did like the part when he defeated Carnivora by trapping him under his sword. He also defeated Marvel again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
Well. In Hellion the ghostwriter understood what happens if you thrust a metal sword into fire. Too bad the ghostwriter for this book understands neither crossbows not ice. Firstly, you cannot spam crossbow bolts. Crossbows take time to reload; a modern hunting crossbow typically takes about a minute to reload, according to a quick Google search. These aren't modern crossbows that these characters have. Even if it was an extra-light one (heavier crossbows have longer reload times due to the effort of cocking them), it would still take Elenna at least a minute to reload, and only so short a time because she's accustomed to bows already and would have the necessary back muscles for the job. Secondly, you can't shoot ice out of a crossbow. After beating Carnivora and being teleported close to the castle by Oradu, the Good Wizard of Tavania, Tom sees King Henri, who can't meet his eyes out of shame at losing his kingdom. And yet, how does Tom know that's who he is? He's never met the King of Tavania and when Malvel ousted Henri from his throne he would've been sure to take the crown too, so Henri has no indicator of office besides his sword with a ruby in it's pommel. And that's not actually an indicator, it's just a descriptor used when Tom sees him. For all Tom knows, that could've been a minor lord of an outlying keep. And in the same section, a former guard-now-turned-Master-of-Beasts, somehow and with no possible way of having earned that title or the abilities that seem to come with it, Dalaton presents Tom and Elenna with their arms that were taken in the first book of the set, including Elenna's bow that the ghostwriters can never remember if she has or not. But because the ghostwriters forgot she obtained a sword in Vespick the Wasp Queen, that sword wasn't taken in Convol the Cold-blooded Brute and so wasn't returned to her here. Speaking of the powers that come with being Master of Beasts, Dalaton can now summon the Beasts to his side. But from the way Malvel described it and the way the books phrased it, the Beasts of Tavania weren't native to Tavania, so Dalaton shouldn't have been able to summon them.
