Would You Rather? Summer Edition
Would You Rather? Summer Edition will keep you entertained and laughing in the family car, at the beach, under starry skies, in a camp cabin, or on a cozy hammock in your backyard on warm summer days and nights.
I'm an author and a middle school Social Studies teacher. I absolutely love what I do. Hanging with a bunch of funny, sarcastic tweens all day while ranting about social justice? HELLO dream job! I also love reading, snuggling with my dog, everything Bravo, going to concerts and traveling to new destinations.
My book, "Would You Rather? Made You Think! Edition," is available for preorder on Amazon NOW with an official release date of August 18th.
Would You Rather is one of our family's favorite games, so of course this seemed like a perfect little book for our long car rides in church or sports commutes. And yes, it created quite a bit of discussion, but also, some of the discussion was based around how rather confusing some of the questions were. For example: "Would you rather use virtual reality to r ide the world's best roller coasters or explore the depths of the ocean?" Now, after much discussion, we gathered that the assumption here is that you are doing virtual reality in both of these scenarios but it is actually unclear in how it's written. This is an issue quite often in the wording of the book, which often times creates confusion in the questions. Also, some of the questions seem ignorant. Maybe this is just our family getting too in to the game, but this question for example, "Would you rather drink salt water or lake water?" seems really uneducated...like, um, both are really unsafe, and this book in particular isn't really stepping outside of reality in most of the other questions, so ones like this were weird. Okay, so, maybe we took the questions too seriously! Ha! But that was indeed part of the fun we had with them. However, the book is written as a competitive game, which I didn't really understand, so we didn't do the game or have winners. We just asked the questions and talked about them! Which in my opinion was funner than making it a win or lose kind of game!
**Thank you net galley and the publisher for a review copy of this book. My opinions are my own.
Thank you NetGalley and Zeitgeist Publishing for the free eARC copy of this fun book & the chance to give my candid review.
What I'm Starry-Eyed Over: 🤩 We used this game as a transition from wedding planning (for our oldest son) into family dinner where we wanted to not talk about wedding planning for a while. The questions/topics are great discussion starters for family memories, bonding, and making future bucket lists! 🤩 I wasn't sure about (or if I'd like) the competition/scoring/judging part the book. But, as soon as my husband described it as like in Apples to Apples, I totally understood and enjoyed. We rotated people as judges and judges picked a favorite explanation for their choice. 🤩 I would recommend using this in small/short sessions instead of all at once. The book can last your whole 7-10 day family vacation! Our teenagers got distracted first to be active and bump the volleyball around. Later, they were inspired to bake some cupcakes (rainbow chip is a favorite around here) and have a fire on the patio--all great things.
What I'm Wishing/ Dizzy About: 💫 We're so ready for summer & summer break at our house!!!
Thank you, Netgalley, for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. This was super cute and fun! Kids love would you rathers about pretty much anything, so I could definitely see this landing with kids 7+. It was grouped into categories or themes, which was entertaining. I wasn't sure about the totaling up points aspect at the end of each section, but it added a collaborative aspect to the activity. This could be used in the classroom for conversation starters, community building, and even launching an opinion writing unit. Very fun!
We are a family that travels full time for work and I can see this being the perfect road trip game. My boys are 6 and 4 and I do think this would be a little too old for both boys so I think Lindseys age recommendation of 8-10 was spot on and great! The questions were a perfect mix of thoughtful and funny. I also really loved that she had rules for the game and a place to keep score!
Honestly, this was a hit and a miss among my kids. One liked them and will read them over and over. My others liked it shortly and then became disinterested in it. I'd recommend it for kids aged 7-10.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Would you rather ? Summer Edition kept us ( two 30 somethings, one 17 year old and one 7 year old) during along car ride with construction. It ledt to many interesting senerios and answers
Another fun read! These books are fun to read with family and friends. I enjoyed the different chapters and the summer theme, you can make it a game or just read the questions.
