We continue to travel with Eulis and Letty across the west as they do good works in their new persons as a preacher and his sister...sorta. Letty is a soiled dove who had one of her clients die on her...litterly..ahh.in the act you might say. Eulis was the saloon drunk who would do odd jobs for a drink or three. Once they buried the body, Letty gets the great idea for Eulis to become the Preacher and continue with his good works and Letty will come along as his sister. End of book one. We pick up with Brother Howe and Sister Leticia as they continue on the Amen trail doing good works like marrying people, baptizing babies and performing burial cerimonies along the way. These two are too funny as the end up in some of the craziest situations. Letty gets attacked by a goat in an outhouse, sprayed by a skunk and almost set on fire. She is also one tough cookie as the men she is traveling with found out. By the time they got to the fort at the end of the line the three men had so many wounds that the fort commander thought that they had been attacked. No only Letty and her accidents that the poor men just happened to get caught up in. It was all very funny in a three stooges kind of way. It had me laughing out loud. But along the way, Letty and Eulis were becoming different people. Even though they were living a lie, the lives that they were changing along the way didn't know that and they were changed for the better. Eulis and Letty begin to have pride in themselves again, stand straighter, walk with more confidence. They also began to fall in love with one another and redefine their roles as to who was the protector and protectee. This is a light sweet read with a few kissing scenes only.
I read this book many years ago while I was in county jail. I never forgot it. It remains one of my favorite books of all time! I recommend it to everybody weather they like westerns or not. I couldn't put it down. It's great!
I absolutely loved this second book in the Letty and Eulis series! Full of adventure, laughs, trials and unconditional love! I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
They continue their journey and the events never cease. Eulis becomes more and more interesting with each page. Letticia is maturing. Her temper is a force of nature still.
Another wonderful story or continuation to the story. This author holds s tightly to you mind that you feel to be a part of that story. Fantastic author !
This is a sequel to Whippoorwill. It is a continuation in the story of former prostitute Leticia Murphy and former town drunk Eulis Potter. They are on the move as a preacher and his assistant after the real preacher died in Letty’s bed.
This story follows a journey that Letty and Eulius take on the Amen Trail, where Eulis conducts sermons, weddings and burials as they travel from the east coast into the wild west. Along the way they meet some memorable characters and go through some hard times to come out on top. It was a good journey with some laughs along the way.
The first book of this trilogy was a hoot, and this second book was just as good. Maybe better. It follows a pair who are trying to leave their prior sins behind them. He is a former drunkard who quit and has taken up preaching. She was a saloon prostitute who becomes the new preacher's assistant. They are rough around the edges, but manage to do some good along the "Amen Trail". I rarely find an author who can make me laugh out loud, but Sharon Sala does just that.
I enjoyed this book more than the first one. It's good to see Eulis and Letty trying to do good with their alter egos and learning more about who they actually want to be now that they have a blank slate. The trials they go through make them much better people individually and as a team.
Another great book. Read this book in a little over a day. Could not put it down. The hardships the pioneers faced was so real and made me appreciate my relatively easy life, trials and all.
