I learned a lot about German when I read this book. I didn't know sentence construction in Deutsch was almost backwards of the way we speak in English. Berlitz books are pretty good at grammar more than words themselves, so it's actually helpful at building sentences. Ausgezeichnet = out of sight. My second favorite word was schwindelfrei = crazy!
Ich habe viel gelernt! Good illustrations of idiomatic expressions, vocabulary, and grammar, but my edition is from 1950 and contains a lot of very old-fashioned vocabulary. Guess that's what I get for shopping in used bookstores.
Obviously an older method so the language is outdated. Alexander Arguelles points out that if you want to read old books, you can't just learn modern slang. However, the lack of audio made the older constructions difficult to grasp. Plus, it feels like the level spikes suddenly, starting off insanely easy and suddenly you are learning every preposition at once.
