Examining the lighter side of librarianship, this book presents a combination of outrageously funny cartoons, commentary, and wit. Globally known as Biblia, the Warrior Librarian, Amanda Credaro has teamed with cartoonist Peter Lewis and produced a book that expands on her award winning web site, Warrior Librarian Weekly , the product of many years of experience in librarianship. Equally applicable to all types of libraries, the work offers humorous advice, typical situations and dilemmas, and helpful examples that will be appreciated by anyone who has ever worked in a library. An additional section features a glossary of library terms, abbreviations, professional associations, and other resources.
A modest sardonic account of the 'librarian' characteristics required to operate effectively in the harsh environment of reality. The 'school librarian', something of an oft used misnomer, is emphasized while lightly dipped in existent misandry. The clever quips only occasionally rise to resonate as unfortunately the work is quite dated. Plus it appears to be intended for roughly at best 1/10th of one percent of the population. Thus it is impossible to attach more than one star in 2025.
I mean no disrespect, especially to Amanda Credaro, however, the text of the book was in the way of the top-notch illustrations. I would've rather read less and looked at pictures more. I thought this was going to be something resembling a comic book, but it wasn't. I think a 3-star review is more than fair.
This book is kind of like a parody of librarianship. It has humor, but more often attempted humor. I didn't read it word for word: I think it's more the type of book that is perused.
There is something in here for every librarian, I think. But I was really hoping it would be funnier.
Join Biblia, the librarian in her comic book like quest of caricatures (more or less in my opinion, though not entirely untrue, though rude) of stereotypes of librarians or librarian hardships. Some of it is quite funny, especially dealing with customers in Latin. But the author VERY clearly dislikes ALL youth AND it shows. The author is DEFINITELY an old school librarian. DID NOT like it.
