Based on the classic tale of E.T.A. Hoffmann. Barbie stars in the story of the popular ballet in which a little girl's love for the Nutcracker brings him to life.
I know funny book choice. But I found it in my memories and boxes and thought I’d read it. I had also just seen the nutcracker ballet. I have to say - unless you’ve seen the Barbie movie (and yes I have 😂) the book feels a little all over. But it was sweet to be down memory lane.
THE ILLUSTRATIONS ARE SO BEAUTIFUL!!! You have to watch the movie to really understand the story because it’s not that well written, but considering it’s probably for kids and not for 17 year olds, it’s perfect!!!
I loved this movie growing up and I stumbled upon a beautiful copy of the book over the summer. The pictures are absolutely stunning. The illustrator took some stylistic liberties but they worked beautifully for this book. The story is simple and some of the characters look different than the movie, but it’s a wonderful book, especially if you collect nostalgic children’s books. My kids will love looking at the pictures at bedtime.
Why in the world would you change the story so much just because Barbie is in it? Bats? Barbie is both Clara AND the Sugarplum "Princess"? Nope. Again....bats??
Anywho. For a Barbie book, the illustrations were quite shockingly pretty. I was impressed.
Also, naming a horse Marzipan? GREAT IDEA. I'm off to buy a horse.....
I actually own this as treasury with 'Rapunzel'. It's wonderfully illustrated. Nice book for children. I hope to share it with my daughter one day (If I have a girl)
