In pursuit of a serial killer, Confederation Ranger Lana Eloy is forced to land on the barbaric, male dominated world, of Ata Prime. Dismissed by Rex Pimetrius, the ruler, as a mere "female", captain of the royal guard, Corin Thantos, is sent to track the down the killer and apprehend him. Lana has no intention of twiddling her thumbs while someone else makes her collar, however. Setting off alone to track Sadin Quyz, she meets up with Corin Thantos and discovers he has some redeeming merits, after all. Rating: Contains explicit, graphic sex, strong language, and violence.
This is ALL Anzu's fault! She saw the giant schlong in a thong on the cover and couldn't resist reading the book but she didn't want to do it alone so she dragged Jenny & I along for the ride.
I really don't know what to say about this book, I kind of picked it up expecting to laugh a lot at a very silly erotic story but it was actually more of a serious story than I thought it would be and it wasn't bad all things considered.
It was lacking in depth and I would have liked more world building but for a 79 page novella the author gave us just enough to go on with. I did find some of the phrases used during sex were awkward (why did she keep referring to the throat of her sex? Honestly I was expecting her to sprout teeth down there at any moment!) but it hadn't quite moved into cringe-worthy territory.
It's hard to even given this one a rating, it was definitely OK but I'm not sure if I can quite bring myself to give it 3 stars. It's not a story I'd read again and I doubt I'd be interested in reading more about these characters if the author decided to turn this into a series. I guess it's probably a 2.5 star story for me but I'm going to stick with 2 stars on here since Goodreads won't let me use half stars.
This is a story by Kaitlyn O'Connor under one of her pen names, Lyssa Hart.
Ranger Lana Eloy of the United Confederation of Planets Intergalactic Rangers has come to the planet Ata Prime in the Kilkain Galaxy on the trail of Sadin Quyz, a serial killer that has murdered more than 100 women of at least 10 planets. He also murdered her partner the previous year.
When Lana arrives on Ata Prime, she is waylaid by the local authorities and taken to the royal palace to explain herself to the monarch, Rex Pimetrius. He doesn't think this is a job for a woman, but Ata Prime is a member of the Confederation, and Lana has every right to seek the criminal on the planet.
After all is said and done, Lana finds herself saddled with Corin Thantos, a tracker that also happens to be the Captain of the Royal Guard. Seven feet of gorgeous muscle slightly wrapped up in leather armor, a tattoo, and a cod piece as his only 'clothing'. (YUM!!!)
As this is a Kaitlyn book, there's plenty of rumination, but not much personal angst, which I like. There is also very nicely written smex between Lana and Corin. Since this is not one of her ménage books, there aren't any group scuffles that have to be sent outside (see 'Wolfen'), but Corin is adorable and protective, even if he does look like a scary ancient warrior (see the cover, it's great).
Nice, short read with an HEA. I liked it a lot and will likely read it again in a couple of years.
Absolutely sweet read that left me with warm fuzzies. Oddly, the barbarian alpha male in this story changes his life to accommodate the woman he wants. HEA
"You know nothing about our culture" says the hero accusingly - and he's not wrong. I don't know jack shit about the hero, when I would in fact like to get to know him a looot better. Also, I found it to be... very unrealistic... the heroine has been pursuing this criminal for 3 years and hasn't sustained serious psychological trauma from that? Also, the criminal has never managed to kill or hurt her, until on this planet? She doesn't come off as being extremely good at her job, honestly, when she really should be as head of the whatever department. Doesn't make any sense.
background...That's what this story is missing. You really never know what the sexual habits/rituals of the barbarian race are and how it effects the relationship. That being said, the story wasn't too bad and the sex wasn't half bad.
This book was very good. I liked the characters and was hoping for more interaction with the locals but I was pleased with this book. The story was great.
