Whether for a dutiful student or a teacher of AP English lit, Dawn Hogue's book of techniques and practice items is a must-have purchase. As a teacher, I've selected quite a number of lessons from Hogue that I'll be using this year. Definitely recommended.
I liked the clear cut way this AP Lit teacher presents the concepts & tasks students could face on the AP exam; it made me reevaluate how I'll present these skills not only to my AP students next year, but to all of my students.
Out of all of the AP English books I read, this particular book was the most thorough when concerning the content of the exam. The crash course consists of different texts that are helpful to read and terminology that is important to learn. The focus on the content was straight-forward and direct, which is what a book on an advanced exam needs. Although the lists of vocabulary were useful, I didn't like HOW MANY lists there were. Learning the vocabulary is important, but no one is going to have enough time to sit and memorize each word and its definition. I think if there were small sections that focused on the use of the most common vocabulary words in context, the book would have held all the information of success a crash course could contain. A great resource for students about to take the AP English exam!
This book helped me understand key concepts that is used in AP Literature. I love the list of books and how often the books appear in all of the tests. I highly suggest that all AP Lit students should buy this book and study this!!!
