The 16-page narrative at the beginning is interesting and puts 20th-century fashion in perspective. I had no idea that America was known, starting in the 19th century, as a place where ladies and servants, wealthy men and laborers, all dressed similarly. Thanks to the mail-order catalog, popular fashion looks became available to all. This book, using catalog illustrations, shows the dramatic change in fashion from the beginning of the 60s to the end of that decade. Amusingly, I remember most of these styles.

This was a fun (and, to be expected, sometimes disturbing) time capsule. I thought about my Mom a lot while reading it and thinking what she might order from it. It would have been even better with color photos.
