This volume in the Time-Life "Third Reich" series has four chapters: Germany's Malevolent Master (Hitler's background and personality); The Voracious Lieutenants (those Nazi leaders closest to Hitler); An Erratic Warlord (Hitler's attempts to personally direct the German war effort ); Attempts on a Charmed Life (the several unsuccessful attempts that were made to assassinate Hitler over the years).
