Well, I didn't read ALL of it. It's a travel guide, for pete's sake. But I did read a lot of the historical and cultural notes and it was VERY interesting. I'd really love to visit Iceland. It's absolutely fascinating that it was unoccupied when the Vikings came. It's the only place that white people are living outside of Europe where the don't have to feel guitly about displacing another people group...
Anyhow, cold remote locations fascinate me. I'm not sure why, because I vastly prefer hot weather over cold. I guess it's the solitude. You can stand out in below zero (Fahrenheit) weather and know that you're really all alone. Nothing's going to come bite you or eat you or attack you for no good reason. the animals would probably say that what makes humans crazy, but I like that about us.

April 2025: finally off to the Faroes! Reread ahead of that
June 2022: An ideal prologue ahead of my second visit to Greenland and my third to Iceland. The pandemic stopped my planned trip to the Faroes, so perhaps I’ll make it there another time.
