'Morgan Daimler has gifted us with a well-crafted and engaging introduction to the Goddess Freya. Truly a must read for anyone interested in or already working with this powerful and intriguing Goddess.' Ceri Norman, author of A Beginner’s Guide to Ogham Divination and Faerie Stones
The most popular of the Norse goddesses is the Vanic deity Freya, found across the Norse myths and into modern mass media, yet often obscured by contradictory tales and external moral coding. Freya is an alluring deity of magic and fertility, a being so important in the mythology that gods and giants fought over her, yet she is never shown as a passive prize to be won only as a forceful being with agency and will of her own. Who is this powerful goddess who has left such a profound mark across not only Norse culture but also wider Western culture? Pagan Portals-Freya is a basic introduction to the Norse Goddess Freya that covers her history, mythology, associations, and modern appearances, and offers readers suggestions for how to begin connecting to Freya in their own lives.
This is a comprehensive beginner book about the Vanadis, Lady of the Vanir, Freya. It combines the oldest known writing with modern thoughts without giving undue weight to either. Plus it has a wealth of resources to continue the readers journey. I would have appreciated a little touching on the connection between the Vanir and the Alfar but perhaps that's best left for another book. Definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to connect with the amazing goddess Freya is.
A great starting point for everyone interessted in the norse goddess Freyja. Daimler, as always, does a great job in giving a well researched overview, in an accessible and easy to read way.
She becomes a greater diety to me still: Clear, simple, and decisive, the book delivers on its promise to inform about Freya without covering everything there is to know. I do have my thoughts… and things that inspired me, which I’d have to research further in my own time.
Design - Art would be a great addition. A stronger opening could have introduced her through a mythical story, drawing readers in and showing how people came to know her. Then, it could transition into the various discussions and facts about who she is and what she does.
On the topic 'Freya is Frigg'; it didn't provide the (in my view) clearest pointers.
A wonderful introduction to one of the better known Norse goddesses, and quite a powerful one. Daimler did an excellent job of compiling information on Freya, and presenting it in an easy-to-read book. Broken into easy-to-read in one sitting sections, you'll get a peek at the goddess in lore and pop culture, as well as ways to incorporate her into your life and rituals. The suggestions for getting to know Freya better on your own, are probably my favorite part of this book. If you decide you'd like to do more research after reading this, there's a bibliography and suggestions for further study at the end. Perfect for those who are curious and starting out, or those who want to learn more and need a place to begin.
Obviously, it's only a short book, but it's still a very well written introduction to Freya. Perfect for anyone looking to explore the Goddess Freya and potentially how to work with, and form a relationship with her. I appreciated the blend of well researched information as well as the authors personal experiences too.
I absolutely love Morgan Daimler and am a big fan of their books about The Morrigan. This book was well structured and organized. For being such a short read it really is full of a lot of knowledge and research. The love Morgan has for this goddess really shines through in their writing. A great read if you’re looking to honor Freya or are just interested in the topic at all.
Another great read from Morgan Daimler. These works have proven to be well-researched from an academic point of view taking history and linguistics into account, as well as the author’s personal experiences and the experiences of the Heathen community as a whole.
