This is one of the best books that I've ever read! Long familiar with the old Barbara Stanwyck film
entitled "Sorry, Wrong Number", I just recently found out that there is a book by the same title! Lucky me!!! I feel that the book is as good as the classic film that I mentioned above because the book was written after the movie was made and the story was taken from the actual screenplay - I'm telling you, this book is as thrilling as the movie is!!! Happy reading!!!

This classic gets my cork! It's got it all, see? Family drama, scares, twists, and...MURDER!
Seriously, this is a really good, fun classic.

In this retro mystery from the 1940's, invalid wife Leona overhears a murder plot on the phone and she is sure someone has switched the phone lines. She contacts the authorities, who don't believe her, and also tries unsuccessfully to contact various people to come to her house, since she is totally alone there. As she gradually starts finding out disturbing things about her husband, her stress and the tension in the story start to grow, and ultimately (and predictably), there is an explosive ending that leaves the reader gasping. This is a short but intense mystery for those who like a quick dose of danger.

This book is really suspenseful and scary. It is done in such an amazing way building the suspense and having foreshadowing. I originally read this in my creative writing class when we had to read a book and then share it with the class talking about literary devices. I'm currently rereading some of my favorite books that I enjoyed in high school, and I really forgot how much this book can get your heart racing. Absolutely love this book!

Quick and easy read about a woman who overhears a murder plot and frantically tries to stop it from happening. Really good for teaching tension. It's easy to spot the conclusion of the plot pretty early, so it's also a good tool for teaching foreshadowing.

Oh, and it's a play (or rather, a script from an old radio show), which students always seem to enjoy.

A must for fans of the class Agnes Moorhead scenery-chewing "Suspense" radio show. Ullman does a nice job of taking Lucille Fletcher's classic script and stretching it out to book length by padding it out with pure exposition. Being a bitch was just a part, maybe even the smallest, of why she gets it!

The movie is so much better. One of the very best, in fact. Maybe this was written after the movie? I do not know.

Lemme tell you I was absolutely CONFUSED at the concept of calling an operator to connect a call before I saw when this was written.

―No? ―feu ella―.
