Fumi Yoshinaga (よしなが ふみ Yoshinaga Fumi, born 1971) is a Japanese manga artist known for her shōjo and shōnen-ai works.
Fumi Yoshinaga was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1971. She attended the prestigious Keio University in Tokyo.
In an interview, she said that "I want to show the people who didn't win, whose dreams didn't come true. It is not possible for everybody to get first prize. I want my readers to understand the happiness that people can get from trying hard, going through the process, and getting frustrated."
Little is known about her personal life. She mentions that her favourite operas are those by Mozart in the author's note of Solfege.
She debuted in 1994 with The Moon and the Sandals, serialized in Hanaoto magazine, but was previously a participant in comic markets.
Of Yoshinaga's many works, several have been licensed internationally. She was also selected and exhibited as one of the "Twenty Major Manga artist Who Contributed to the World of Shōjo Manga (World War II to Present)" for Professor Masami Toku's exhibition, "Shōjo Manga: Girl Power!" at CSU-Chico.
Outside of her work with Japanese publishers, she also self-publishes original doujinshi on a regular basis, most notably for Antique Bakery. Yoshinaga has also drawn fan parodies of Slam Dunk, Rose of Versailles, and Legend of Galactic Heroes.
This series continues to be wonderful, even as we’re creeping up on 20 volumes! I never get tired of all the delicious-looking cooking montages. And I really appreciate how love is expressed here not in big sweeping gestures or speeches but small thoughtful acts like making someone a lunch they enjoy or buying a matching apron. (Also so happy that the non-romantic friendships that Kenji and especially Shiro have made over the years are still important parts of the story! Kayoko MVP forever!)
(Jan. 2023)I was worried about this volume because I felt like the previous one wasn't as solid, but this has to be my favorite volume of the series. It was just cute and beautiful and it made me feel really good.
I'm only sad that there isn't another volume out in English. I hope it isn't a whole year. Well, that just means I will have todo another reread of the series at the end of the year.
I think this might have been where I left off in my previous read-through because I really barely remember this volume, if at all!! How exciting!!
The drama is very juicy in this volume as well. Most notably, I feel like Shiro really gets hit with the insecurity beam in this volume, as he realizes what it feels like to have your boyfriend find a totally different type of man from you attractive. I thought it was sooo sweet how Shiro's immediate solution was "I need to become Ken's type, if I must!!" He can be such a husbandguy sometimes, I swear! I love when he has these moments of showing just how intensely dedicated to Ken he is. He and Ken's love really, really shines for each other in each of their own ways. <:)
And the episode with Gilbert and Kohinata...! I totally get how having a scare like that would shock Gil into realizing that things can't stay as they are. I'm really curious to see what Shiro's solution to the whole thing, to tell Ken or not to tell Ken, will go. I thought it was really sweet that Wataru said Shiro was one of his only closest friends.
Overall this volume felt so romantic and heartwarming... I feel so touched!
In this latest volume of What Did You Eat Yesterday, we continue to follow along with the incremental changes in the lives of our protagonists. They're both essentially the bosses of their respective work locations and they're really growing into their roles. And they continue to make delicious meals together including mapping out bento lunches to bring to work.
The real bombshell is at the end of the book and I really don't want to spoil things. A lot of the stories in this book were sort of indirect foreshadowings of things with Shiro or Kenji contemplating how to tell the other about some important piece of news. But the critical update at the end is quite the doozy and I'm pretty excited to see how Shiro will navigate his way through this whale of a situation.
I love this series so much. Seeing how Shiro and Kenji love each other in small, but meaningful ways always warms my heart. Also, the food looks so good every time. I bookmarked two recipes to see if I make them soon.
