Okay, This is a beautiful masterpiece that deserves the same respect as famous novels such as Hunger Games or Harry Potter. I read this, and the sequel, and I think it might be one of the best books ever written. AND THEY WERE ONLY TWELVE YEARS OLD WHEN THEY WROTE IT!!!!!!!!!! If you enjoy action, beauty, good times, and feels, you will LOVE The Strand Prophecy. Those who disagree, your argument is not valid.

The world is changing. At a level that most humans don't even notice, there are rapid cellular and evolutionary mutations taking place. One man not only knows about the changes, he also knows what it means for the human race. His name is Strand and he is the reluctant harbinger, obligated by the past to protect mankind. His duty is to inform the world of the danger that is evolving and how they can protect themselves. His driving ambition: protect the innocent.

On a summer afternoon in front of the White House, surrounded by tourists, Strand makes his first appearance. He is an imposing sight, dressed in a black hooded cape covering a black chrome exoskeleton. It isn't long before the Secret Service takes notice and responds to the spot where Strand has been standing. Waiting. With weapons drawn, they surround him, ordering him to surrender. He waits. The Secret Service fires but their bullets aren't able to penetrate the exoskeleton that Strand wears.

Once the media coverage begins, Strand knows it is time. He announces to the world, and specifically to the President, who he knows is watching, that the world is about to undergo a rapid evolutionary phase. The consequences of these changes will be catastrophic to humans unless something is done. He leaves the evidence for the President to review and announces that more information will be available to the rest of the world via the Internet. And then, with superhero-like abilities, Strand escapes from the Secret Service, and the rest of the world.

The world doesn't know that Strand is really Steve Cutter, an anthropologist and technologist who has secretly been perfecting some of the most advanced work in the world. Steve lives with his sixteen-year-old niece, Anna, the daughter of his brother, Jack. Anna's father died in a terrible accident for which Steve feels responsible. Steve's main goal is to protect Anna. Protect the innocent. With a seemingly unlimited amount of money, research, and technology at his hands, Steve has been studying the changes taking place throughout the world and how to protect human beings from becoming a hunted food source of rapidly mutating creatures everywhere. In addition to his research, he has developed equipment that allows him to be Strand. A modern day superhero with the ability to go anywhere, do most anything, and know everything that is happening at any given instant.

But what can he do when the President not only refuses to believe his warnings, but also treats him as a threat to the human race? A danger? With a small team of colleagues, including Anna, Steve/Strand will be forced to protect the human race themselves.

Author J.B.B. Winner is actually the writing team of teenage twins Brittany and Brianna Winner, and their dad, Jeff. THE STRAND PROPHECY, which started out as a family writing exercise, is the first of a planned five-book series. In addition to the novel, the Strand Prophecy now also includes comic books, graphic novels, and even a play list on iTunes. With environmental issues being as widely recognized as they are, THE STRAND PROPHECY is a timely and realistic possibility and an enjoyable read.

This book couldn't decide whether it was a comic book or a novel and ended up being a mangled mess of both. The storyline was interesting (albeit drawn out) but the writing was gross! I recognize that it was written by two thirteen-year-old girls and their father, and I commend the girls. I can't even get a first draft out ladies, good for you! But as a published work... it was boring and annoying. There were somethings I really wanted to know that they hardly even talked about and things I didn't want to know and they spent FOREVER on them! Plus, the book had a catchphrase "And something more." "You are a monkey, and something more." "You are a man, and something more." "You are a mariner, and something more." Gah! There was one page where it said that three times!

So I gave it two stars, but the little popup says that two stars is "I liked it" and I did. It's not something I would read if I had anything else to do, but I had a few free days.

Leichte Spoiler

The strand prophecy lives up to it's name. It says that it is a mix of X-Men and Jurassic park. There are five reasons why I think that this is a great book. Number one is all the creatures because there all different and you don't know what they'll do. Number two is all the technology because you have it from cell phones to super battle bot's. Number three is all the description it gives you so it's like you are actually watching it happen. Number four is the way the character's act. It's like there real people. Lastly it's because after all the action it says that there will be another book and might be a movie.

The Strand Prophecy is a very fast-moving and exciting tale. If you are into science, fantasy, technology, or just a good old fashioned comic book style story, this book should give you a lot to enjoy.

I teach high school reading intervention classes, so I have rooms full of reluctant readers throughout the day. This book has been a huge hit with every student who has read it. While the vocabulary is not easy, the story is so compelling that students have little problem following the plot and enjoying its many twists and turns. It is also one of the very few books where a student has asked if they could write to the author - or authors in this case.

I have read the book myself and found it thoroughly enjoyable. The writers came up with some incredible details and no shortage of interesting characters. It would be easy to see this type of story expanding beyond books to movies, TV or comics.

I enjoyed this book. It was used in the science classroom in my school, but together with the other teachers on me team, we created a project around it. I liked the story and the characters, and I thought it was great that artwork was included. It really helped the readers see what everything looked like.

The only problem I had with the book was how the authors used "... and something more" to describe pretty much everything. To me it felt like a really easy way out of describing what the characters and creatures actually were. I wanted to yell "AND WHAT MORE?!" half the time while I was reading.

Aside from that, the book was really well done and caught my attention. I look forward to reading the sequel. My students, for the most part, seem to enjoy it as well. It at least gives them the opportunity to explore a genre we normally do not get to in class.

When was the last time you read a book written by a twelve-year-old kid? Back in sixth grade, perhaps? If you've never done so, here's your chance. The Strand Prophecy was penned by a couple of preteen girls (with a lot of editorial guidance from their dad, no doubt). Big chunks of it could arguably qualify as naive art, but it's more like a wonky anime series from the 70s with a soundtrack by Half Japanese. Which, now that I think about it, sounds pretty darn cool.

This was the first published work of the Winner Twins (and their dad), and I'll just say the Twins have a bright future. The book is very hard to get where I live - you might not find it in your local public library.

In short, Strand is a super-hero, not totally unlike Iron Man. His prophecy is more of an evidence-based prediction of sudden and profound evolution. Several species take giant steps forward, and become very dangerous. Can humanity survive?

This book was really great and the illustrations were detailed and eye-catching. Though some parts could be argued to be lacking, dull or not intriguing, it was a great debut from 2 thirteen-year-olds. Wasn't there also supposed to be a sequel?

A fun story for pre-teens, but I found my mind wandering often, and the writing was not very mature. Great illustrations.
