He’s a celibate Ixionian warrior. I’m a temporary tribute “companion.” But finding love in the stars? I don’t think so. When I signed up for the Ixonian tribute program, it was for one reason and one reason only—financial need…and maybe a little bit of an exploration bug. It definitely wasn’t to find love, and after all, that’s what we were promised. No love. No emotional attachments. Just celibate alien soldiers in need of temporary companionship—and we don’t even have to provide that , if we don’t want to. Just some conversation and company. My alien soldier, Cassian, is everything I could have asked for—kind, accommodating, and respectful—even if he does have scales and horns. But he’s also gorgeous, and as the days pass and we get to know one another better, I start to wonder if my own self-imposed celibacy is the right choice. It could be fun, right? I came to Ixion for a new experience, after all. A fling with a handsome alien soldier certainly falls in that category. It definitely can’t lead to love—or to a revolution. Chosen by the Alien Warrior is a full-length standalone sci-fi romance featuring a handsome, horned alien soldier and his stubborn human companion—and a love that changes Ixion forever. If you like sexy aliens, galactic adventures, and a happily ever after for our hero and heroine, you’ll love this new series! Each book in the Ixionian Fated Mates series can be read as a standalone, but it’s recommended that they be read in order for the greatest enjoyment. Book 1: Chosen by the Alien Warrior (Ivy and Cassian) Book 2: Tempted by the Alien Commander (Cherise and Azrael) Book 3: Enchanted by the Alien Rebel (Trace and Calix)
3.5 stars The world building for this was interesting and I liked Cassian. He was ridiculously respectful, to the point of walking on eggshells, of Ivy. Ivy annoyed the shit out of me. She was beyond ridiculous in her interactions with Cassian, mean for no reason. I didn’t understand why they loved each other at the end. However, the book kept me invested and I am on to the next.
Spice: 3/5
Triggers: violence, death, fear of pregnancy, sex work, mentions of wars
This was a shallow story. Why do they like each other? They don’t interact for 75% of the book. She’s unnecessarily unpleasant. Then suddenly it’s a sharp turn to an insurrection that just sounds dumb. They all immediately trust each other. The secret is a THUMB DRIVE LABELED CONVENIENTLY. What kind of idiot keeps secret plans on a thumb drive labeled “darstardly plan” (for all intents and purposes)? I do not get why our hero likes the heroine, much less loves her. The program also makes no sense. Women all believe they are signing up to be sex workers for an undetermined length of time paid at the end. They can’t leave the program because it’s a different planet. There doesn’t seem to be anything to buy on the planet. So it’s selling yourself into sex work you can never escape with the promise that at sone time in the vague future you’ll be paid. The women have no voice in who they’re assigned to. But also you have to pass all these fitness tests so it isn’t women who are using drugs and desperate for a fix.
It makes no sense.
I am curious about Cherise. She seems like she might have a brain which is more than one could say about our tiresome whiny jerk of a heroine.

I hated both the main characters. Usually when you read a romance book, you want to root for the characters to be together in the end. I did not care if these two ended up together or not which is a good thing because I’m not sure if they are together or not this book was so confusing. Ivy is terrible. She signed up for this exchange program, drags, her best friend along with her, Then ignores her best friend once they arrive at the alien exchange program. Show also complains about having to participate in the alien exchange program. She signed up for. Make it make sense. I also feel like she has no chemistry with the dude they barely talked through this whole book and when they did it was mostly her just like being rude and yelling at him even though he was super apologetic and like quiet until the whole time. I have no idea why he decided he liked her. She doesn’t have any redeeming qualities. Then the whole secret insurrection club to investigate the real reason why the exchange program is happening like where did that come from? Where did that come from? It made zero sense, I don’t understand any of this book! I feel like the author had some ideas, but she did not put them together in a cohesive manner and I in no way believe that the main characters love each other. They rarely spoke and she was a bitch the vast majority of those interactions. The dude was very forgettable.
OMG, I hate this woman! She's an ass to Cassian, she judges everything and everyone, including her “friend” (who is equally judgmental, BTW, maybe that's why they're friends), and gets angry for Cassian not doing things she didn't say she expected. Cassian is a total doormat, and just lets this bitch walk all over him.
The military didn't make any sense, because there's no mention whatsoever of any conflict they might be needed for, the author only deemed important to mention they're “grossly overfunded”, with no thoughts whatsoever for the origin of said funds. Also, they don't seem to do anything other than have breakfast, go to the gym, have dinner, and sleep. No training mentioned, and everyone seems to do whatever they want whenever they want. Except, apparently, the alarm, which might or might not be regulation.
The reason for the women being there makes no sense either. Why introduce untrained civilians into a military base? Just because the soldiers were “discontent” for being celibate? Letting them go out of base to get some seems a much better solution, less expensive and way less troublesome.
I stopped at 25% because I can't stand this bitch for another second, and the setting didn't help.
I really liked the synopsis but after the mmc and mfc met I was highly disappointed. The mfc, Ivy, is a major b!%ch. She is not sassy or fiesty, she is mean and rude to Cassian for no reason. She volunteered to be part of the exchange program and be a companion for a soldier but she wouldn't even talk to him for weeks. She snapped at him when he just tried to talk to her. If this was an abduction story I would be saying "go girl" , but its not and there is no reason for her nastiness. Her attitude through most of the book made me really not like her or the story. Cassian seemed like an alright guy if not a little pathetic. I really felt sorry for him and kept wanting him to stand up for himself whenever she made him feel bad. I hate stories where the roles are reverse and the mmc are the a$$holes, I don't think they deserve a HEA, and this was the same. It did start to get better around the 80% mark so if you can hang on then it does get better. Unfortunately, it ends in a cliffhanger, even though the next book follows a new couple, the overall story continues. I will probably read it to find out what is really going on with the exchange program.
This was an enjoyable read and the main characters drove me crazy in places because these two are celbate and fighting the burning hot chemistry bubbling up between them and with drama, action, deception, comedy, violence, passion and love. Ivy is to be a Celbate Campanion to Ixionian warrior because she needs the money and she gets Cassian who is not looking for love and they get on very well even if she is a little nasty towards him but at least he is easy on the eyes and is sexy as sin but that’s not what she wants. Cassian is a Celbate Ixionian warrior who is given a human female Companion but he never thought he would break his vow for her but the closer they get the more he is willing and asks permission to take her as his mate but will she want him. Ivy is interested in Cassian but not enough to give up her life but when another female show’s interest in him she realizes he is the one for her and wants to be with him. How does it all turn out and do the have a future together or not.
This isn’t a romance. Nor is it steamy. So why did I read this. 75% of the way through the book and the h isn’t even speaking to the H. They never exchanged sweet nothings or even just TALK. The h spends most of the book avoiding or ignoring the H and they don’t even talk why she joined the program to be a companion to aliens in the first place. The side characters are bipolar caricatures of people. The main characters speak in riddles to each other and I ended up skipping the last 6-10 chapters to see the ending and it was so frustrating. I will NOT be reading any of the other books in the series.
I did not make it past them getting stuck at the doctors office. This all sounded nonchalant. But what really turned me off this book was the friend talking about getting her pussy probe!!!! These books at just turning into p0rn stories where the pizza guy shows up and horrible music comes on. Either the girls have a mouth of a drunken sailor ore they live like a back alley walker and demand to be treated like a virgin, or a man!!! This is just too clench for me. Don't waste your time
The Ixion soldiers get approved to find temporary companions in some human females who have signed up for the tribute temporary companion program. These soldiers have been celibate but are thinking that the women arriving are there willing to have sex with them after they get to know each other. The women on the other hand are told that they only have to spend time with the soldiers and talk or more if they want too and they are going to be paid for their time.
I felt bad for Cassian right away because the human female, Ivy he picked, was cold, uncaring and gave Cassian a hard time for the longest time. It was only when she was told of a problem by some of the other people there that she sort of warmed up to Cassian. She was there for the money and had no intention of being with him but even so she wasn't even nice to him for the longest time which made me sad for him because he was the nicest guy. He didn't understand her at all or why she was acting so cold towards him. They shared the same room, the same bed for days before she even warmed up to him and started talking to him. I didn't like how she treated him at all or how she acted to him when he had done nothing at all to deserve it.
But then some of the humans and aliens alike start working in secret for what they thought was a conspiracy or problems and they were all working together which brought Cassian and Ivy closer together and they actually started to get along better. This series follows the rebellion and problems they find throughout the series so that is not resolved in this first book but I wouldn't call it a cliffhanger since it gets resolved throughout the series.
This book started with some promise Ivy had some snark to her and Cassian was able to go toe to toe with her.
However, once they reached his room all of that delicious tension just seemed to evaporate and the story become boring and repetitive.
Nothing happened once Ivy laid down the law that she was not here to get chummy with an alien she was only there for the money. Then she basically was at the desk every time Cassian came home from work with very little interaction.
We would get little bits that something else might be going on but nothing to really sink our teeth into. A lot of telling and very little action literally.
After basically ignoring Cassian for a good bit of the time, although she would ogle him Ivy doing a sudden 180 to being all into him because someone showed an interest in him…had me rolling my eyes. Suddenly it was lets sweat up the sheets?!?!
Once that happens then we hit the non-stop angst fest with all of the other characters. The one saving grace is that we got both POV’s because if all we had was Ivy’s this book would have felt like climbing a muddy hill in the rain with a fridge strapped to your back.
Cassian on the other had was a true romantic, he wanted more but was willing to wait forever for her to decide what she wanted. He would notice so many things about her and he did wax poetic quite a bit.
After going through all of that we end on a cliff hanger?!!? We got a sort of HEA to be honest not sure considering the ending so for me it felt like a cliff hanger.
I received an ARC and I am leaving an honest review.
Decently written, informative and somewhat expensive information filled Alien romance, but ends on an odd cliffhanger. Mood repetition through the book holds nothing on the way this story ends. No grammatical errors and interesting story line garners a 4 Star rating, and a struggle at best to leave the 4 knowing that the next installment moves on from the main characters without providing closure. ......The brick wall. Mildly hopeful that the author intends on elaborating on their well-being and that of their closest friends moving forward.
I still wasn’t having a good time by chapter 8, so I figured I’d spoil myself and read the reviews with spoilers… and have come to the conclusion that I will not enjoy myself the further I go, so DNF it is. Reminding myself that in 2024 I don’t need to waste time on things I don’t enjoy.
Below are the notes that I jotted down while reading what I did:
The male leads are giving some real “gym bro” vibes 🤢
FL is a bit of a bitch. Just plain not nice. Also, her weighing under 100 pounds makes no sense… like she has to be seriously unhealthy.
I’m not a fan of people who are antagonistic just because, and that seems to be her.
This was... interesting. It really had no plot at all until the last part of the book when suddenly there is this conspiracy and all of each of their friends we aware of it but didn't see the need to inform them. I also found myself wondering why they didn't bring mates from their own planet for their soldiers. I could go on, but I'll let you find for yourself what i mean if you read, and if you don't, then my list won't matter.
I received a copy via hidden gems and am voluntarily leaving this review.

I received this book for free and am giving my honest and voluntary review.
This story is a good read of how one might think that they hold all the cards and that love is not for them, only to be proven wrong. I love the way that Cassian is patient with Ivy and how Ivy finally listens to her heart. I also love the way that Cassian stands for and behind Ivy in her decisions and is finally ready to say ‘I love you’ with no compunction while the other mates are having their problems.
I was genuinely so confused. Why is Ivy even part of the program? How did her friend fall in love with the alien she has know for one day and slept with? I also didn't really like Ivy. She was mean to Cassian for no reason, especially considering that NO ONE FORCED HER TO GO TO IXION?!? She was really pushy with Cherise too and that rubbed me the wrong way. Lastly, Cassian formed a connection with Ivy despite having two conversations with her? He liked watching her type her journal?? I feel like the chemistry wasn't really there. This book was not for me.
This book actually turned out to be really good! It started out sort of wonky, but got better the more I read. The storyline was really interesting; the main characters were really good; the plot twists and turns were really something; and the HEA was awesome. Give this one s read and discover all sorts of brave new worlds. Grab your copy today! (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and really enjoyed it!) ❤️
The pace is slow and only hints at fated mates. Ivy is rude to everyone. Having no experience of anything beside a warrior's life, Cassian is naive and accepting of everything. I appreciate this book was dual POV because Cassian has slightly more depth in terms of his feelings. Otherwise, their get together was sudden and uninspiring.
Ivy annoyed me. She's resilient, intelligent and headstrong, which is something I usually like in my main female characters but her insistence to not communicate with Cassian and therefore be kind of cruel to him, messed with my brain. Especially when I can see how considerate he was of her. I guess she exudes human nature quite well. Otherwise, I like the story. The details were amazingly written!
I love this story. I love Cassian and Ivy and I'm hooked on their internal thoughts and the small details about them and the people they know. I've read all books and at the end of the story there are a number of unresolved issues, but this is the book I go back to. Spoilers below: . . . . . . I want the story to continue when Ivy finds for certain she is pregnant, hers and Cassian's reaction, what the baby is and how they deal with it.
The relationship between the hero and heroine was not quite what I would call “fated mates” but had some traces of it. I prefer it when the belief in fated mates is spelled out, which it wasn’t here. The political stuff picks up in the last third of the book and is left on a cliffhanger, in my opinion. I’m not sure if I will move on in the series.
I like the concept and stone's writing style but have two major problems : 1. While cassian has believable feelings for ivy I am completely unconvinced that ivy loves cassian. She is genuinely so mean to him up until the last 10% (generously) of the book. 2. The whole revolution thing is badly set up. There's not really unrest or conflict then bam we need an insurrection.
I really enjoyed this book. The exchange program is to bring women from earth to this alien planet so the aliens can find mates. There population’s birth rates are declining and earth women are the answer.
"I could spend my whole life here and never get bored."
I read the second book in this series first because of Stuff Your Kindle today and because I'll never leave a series I started unfinished I'm back.
And to be honest, even though she's not the main character of this book, even the few brief scenes with Cherise in them pmo. She is simply has a garbage personality and I find it hard to move past it.
2 weeks I've been reading this book and in the end I just... I love the kinds of books, but this was just missing something, but I can't place my finger on what.
