About the author

Wataru Yoshizumi (吉住渉) is a Japanese mangaka. She was born as Mari Nakai (中井 真里, Nakai Mari) on June 18, 1963 in Tokyo, Japan. She graduated with a degree in economics from Hitotsubashi University.

Yoshizumi started her career as a mangaka while working as an office lady. Her debut manga was a yomikiri (short story) called "Radical Romance" that was published in 1984, in the summer issue of Ribon Original. She is known as a social mangaka, and is a good friend of fellow mangakas Naoko Takeuchi, Ai Yazawa, Miho Obana, and Megumi Mizusawa.

Yoshizumi currently (as of 2007) has her works published in both Ribon and Chorus.

Girl from Okinawa meets boy from Tokyo! Chitose thinks herself hopelessly in love with the tourist Yuki but misses the opportunity of meeting him again before his vacation ends. Without further ado, she decides to move to her brother in Tokyo and transfer to Yuki's high school. There, she does not only find him but also his girlfriend, Saaya.

Putting aside the ridiculousness of her moving to Tokyo for a guy she's just met, Chitose etc. is a cute story with a cute protagonist. Cute is really the word that just sums it all up. Chitose is just all round sweet - one can even forgive her the stupidity of following Yuki. The artwork is very cute and the story has a nice balance of comedy and sweetness.

Nonetheless, this story also features some incredibly selfish characters - at some point, I even wondered how they managed to remain friends. I mean, Saaya and Chitose become friends and both seem perfectly ok with the fact that they both like the same guy. I always appreciated how author Yoshizumi Wataru gives importance to friendship in her stories, but here it felt like a bit of a mess.

The story really seems to have a rather light hearted approach towards all the jealousies and disappointments. Perhaps it is that what makes it cute and fun to read. On the other hand, the author tried to include some darker subjects such as the death of loved ones. I just feel it does not work with the over all tone of the story - it does not strike me as sad as it ought to be. The ending was also wrapped up rather fast, the final chapter almost felt like an epilogue where the author wanted to ensure that all characters have got their happy ending in one way or another.

However, there are more than enough hilarious moments and cute artwork that make this story worth a read. In addition, Chitose being from Okinawa is quite a nice bonus. I liked how it introduced some customs of Okinawa as well as gave some detail to Tokyo so as to let the reader see it from Chitose's point of view who had never been to Tokyo before. Chitose is just too cute - her reaction when she sees snow for the first time makes you want to go and have fun in the snow as well. It was also nice how local places, such as the Tokyo Tower, were included. The author went into such great detail that I could recognize it from my own visit there.

It is by no means a perfect read, and also not Yoshizumi Wataru's best, but it is a nice read if you are in the right mood for a cute, mostly drama-free romantic comedy!

Der Manga hat mir wirklich sehr gut gefallen. Die Story war interessant zu lesen und es war mal nicht die klassische Alles-Ist-So-Schön-Liebesgeschichte. Dass die Prota ihrem Schwarm in eine andere Stadt hinterherzieht, ist zwar sehr weit hergeholt, aber dass dann eben nicht alles so glatt geht, hat es wieder wett gemacht. Ich finde die Charaktere interessant und die Geschichte wird angenehm spannend erzählt, so dass man sich am Ende wirklich fragt wie es wohl weitergeht und was hinter so manchem Verhalte steckt. Ich möchte es auf jeden Fall noch herausfinden.
Der Zeichenstil hat mir ebenfalls sehr gut gefallen. Sehr witzig und niedlich.

El regreso de la Yoshizumi a la edad del pavo (esta serie va antes que Marmalade Boy Little) es como volver a ver a una vieja a amiga que te cae bien y disfrutas con su compañía.

La situación que desencadena la trama amorosa es novedosa para ella y la protagonista parece inocente pero tiene energía. Me ha caído bien Chitose, con su dialecto de Okinawa (un dialecto que la traductora ha optado por transformar palabras. Queda gracioso).

El que no me gusta nada es el protagonista masculino, me ha parecido un frescales.

PD: A ver alguien puede combinar la edición española con las demás.

Me encontré con este primer tomo por 2€. Decidí leerlo ya que parecía interesante. La historia comienza con la protagonista Chitose que conoce a Yukito en su pueblo en las vacaciones de verano.

Ahí Yukito le da un beso en el atardecer y se enamora. Tanto es así que decide aventurarse a Tokio y apuntarse a la misma escuela que él ¿Cómo sabe de dónde es y en la escuela donde está? Por la poca información que le da Yukito cuando están hablando.

Al final lo consigue e incluso hay muchas más casualidades que harán que estén muy muy pero que muy juntos. Pero hay una cosa que los hará que Chitose se tenga que olvidar de él.

La historia es muy entretenida de leer. La verdad es que tarde dos días leer con calma ya que no tenía prisa en terminarla.

La protagonista me parece una chica muy simpática y con ilusión de la vida, también ilusa pero graciosa. Las amistades que se hace Chitose me agradan, cada una tiene su personalidad. Es lo típico de que en cada grupo no puede faltar el típico chico callado y frío, el típico chico sexy, la típica chica artista y así.

Me ha gustado mucho y he querido continuar así que me pillé el segundo tomo. Además que el final lo dejo demasiado emocionante. Necesitaba continuar con el manga y saber qué es lo que pasa. ¿Qué esconde Yukito?

Ains he visto este primer tomo de otra saga de Wataru Yoshizumi, y como Marmalade Boy era uno de los mangas que seguía de adolescente, no me he podido resistir, así para pasar un rato de la tarde de domingo con un poco de nostalgia ñoña, me ha parecido perfecto. Si te gustan Miki y You, esta historia sigue el mismo estilo. Chica graciosa enamorada de chico popular. Me ha llamado la atención que la prota es de Okinawa. De momento me está gustando que sea creíble y la prota por ahora nada más que se lleva chascos con los castillos en el aire que se había hecho jajaja. Lo mismo le doy una oportunidad y me leo el resto de la saga que en total son 7 tomos. Espero que no se ponga a dar vueltas absurdas de argumentos solo por alargar la cosa, jejeje.
No es gran literatura pero de vez en cuando uno tiene estos placeres inconfesables para no pensar jajaja los dibujos de Wataru Yoshizumi siempre me sacan una sonrisa :)

This is such a dumb typical 2000s shoujo romcom. The romance is shallow and the drama contrived and the main girl dumb, but still sometimes the fluffy parts give me butterflies and takes me back to the heights of teenage emotions, lol. I really love the artwork in this which is clean and cute.

Este cómic trata sobre una chica adolescente que va a bachillerato, conoce a un chico durante las vacaciones de verano y, como se enamora de él, ella decide ir al instituto del chico y poder decir lo que ella siente.

Este cómic me ha terminado de gustar, y me he quedado con ganas de leer el segundo volumen, porque al final pasa algo inesperado y quiero saber cómo continuará.

Only read to Vol. 4 but I thought this was absolutely awful. I hate the male lead like I've never hated a fictional character before. He was a big jerk and I hated how naive our main characters are. If not for the art, which was cute as always, I would've given this 1 star.
