As the extractions expert for A-Tac, an elite CIA black ops unit masquerading as faculty at an Ivy League college, Drake Flynn knows how to survive behind enemy lines. But he’s about to meet one adversary he can’t subdue . . . or resist.
A RACE FOR SURVIVAL
Stranded in the Colombian jungle after a mission goes bad, Drake has only one objective: evade the mercenaries hot on his trail and deliver “the package” to U.S. officials. But “the package” has a mind of her own, and she has no intention of trading one set of captors for another. Madeline Reynard is beautiful, headstrong, and hell-bent on escape after years as a crime lord’s pawn. She’ll risk everything for freedom, even if it means deceiving the dark, handsome soldier who now holds her life in his hands. Drake has been burned too many times to let a woman manipulate him, especially a secretive one like Madeline. Even so, they cannot deny the attraction between them. Now as enemy forces close in, Drake and Madeline must trust each other with their lives—or face certain death.
Award winning author Dee Davis worked in association management before turning her had to writing. Her highly acclaimed first novel, Everything In Its Time, was published in July 2000. Since then, among others, she’s won the Booksellers Best, Golden Leaf, Texas Gold and Prism awards, and been nominated for the National Readers Choice Award, the Holt and two RT Reviewers Choice Awards. To date, she is the author of over thirty novels and novellas, including her current A-Tac series and Cottage in the Mist. When not sitting at the computer, Dee spends time exploring Connecticut with her husband, daughter, and Cardigan Welsh Corgis.
Too much convenience and heroine stupidity. Nothing new or creative. No interesting personalities.
REVIEWER’S OPINION: Why are the conflicts not interesting? That’s the main question I had during and after reading this book. I will try to answer some of it. Drake and his armed buddies rescue Madeline from Ortiz’ private compound in the Columbian jungle. (Ortiz is a drug lord.) They are being chased by Ortiz’ soldiers. They are surrounded and being shot at. She sneaks away from Drake thinking she will be safer on her own – running in the jungle from the soldiers without supplies or a weapon. Of course she gets caught by a bad guy. Later she and Drake are in a safe house. She decides to take all their money and go shopping – even though soldiers are still chasing them. She tells him she wanted to “surprise” him. Later she goes shopping again because she was antsy. Of course something bad happens. As they continue on their long journey of escape, Ortiz always knows where they are because there is a mole in Drake’s group feeding him information. Therefore they are always fighting for their lives where ever they go. Unfortunately the author never shows anything about the mole. We never learn who the mole is or how he knows where the group is going.
I’m ok with making things up in fiction. In fact I encourage it. But I’d like made-up-things to be creative, not convenient to the plot. The convenient computer hacking annoyed me. Drake and Madeline rescue a prisoner from a prison which is in the middle of the jungle. It is run by an offshoot of the Columbian government, not a rich drug lord. Do you think they might have online computer systems which lock and unlock cell doors? So a hacker could hack into the system and open doors from a remote location? That’s what happens.
I wasn’t interesting hearing them think and talk about things and worry about what to do next as they were on the run in the jungle. I skimmed some of this to get to the conflicts. The sex scenes didn’t move me. Their relationship was more on the odd-side than on the drawn-to-you-side. She kept running away from Drake. She wanted to be on the run by herself, yet she was incompetent at it. She kept getting in harm’s way, and he repeatedly had to follow her, find her, rescue her, and save her.
STORY BRIEF: Madeline shot and killed a man who was attacking her sister. The man was a prominent politician so Madeline was put in a remote jungle prison. Ortiz is a Columbian drug lord and arms dealer. He offers to get her out of prison if she will work for him, seducing men to get information. She agrees. The CIA wants her rescued and brought to the US to provide evidence and information about Ortiz’s boss. Drake and his group work for the CIA. They rescue her, but she runs away from them. Drake stays to search for her while the rest of his team leave on the helicopter. Meanwhile Ortiz sends soldiers and mercenaries to find her and bring her back.
DATA: Story length: 353 pages. Swearing language: strong, including religious swear words. Sexual language: moderate. Number of sex scenes: 3. Estimated number of sex scene pages: 10. Setting: current day mostly Columbia and Ecuador, with a little time in Hungary and the U.S. Copyright: 2010. Genre: romantic suspense.
3.5 stars. I liked this one. I enjoyed the story and the pacing. The heroine had a few TSTL moments that took me out of the book. But for the most part it was good.
I'm sure I'll continue with the series as I do enjoy the author's writing.

A-Tac agent, Drake Flynn, finds himself stranded in the Columbian jungle after a mission goes wrong. His only objective is to deliver 'the package' to the U.S. government. Except said 'package' is Madeline Reynard, a beautiful and head-strong woman who's determined to escape after years of being a crime lord's pawn. After seeing her chance when A-Tac rescues her, she will not leave one captivity for another. Despite Drake being burned one too many times, and Madeline's horrid past, these two find themselves with an attraction for each other that cannot be denied. Now they must work together and trust one another if they want to survive the Columbian jungle and the mercenaries hot on their trail.
This is Book Two in the A-Tac series, which is an elite CIA unit masquerading as faculty at an Ivy League college. Dark Deceptions precluding this book, and Desperate Deeds to follow. It is not necessary to read the series in order, as these books are stand alone, but I suggest doing so as you'll get more out of the experience.
I had the delight in reading the first book in this series for review. As also the case in the first book, the second didn't let me down. I love Dee Davis' writing style. She writes with a straight-forward, no-nonsense approach that leaves out fluff. She knows how to pace a story for a smooth blend of action, mystery, and romance. The hero and heroine were realistically flawed, and the secondary characters propelled the plot nicely. I very much look forward to the last book in this series. Highly recommended!
I want off by saying I love First Reads Giveaways, because 90% of the time I end up getting a book I like.
With that being said. I loved this book. Usually I find a small little things about a book I can't stand such as the author using the same word to many times or constantly having the character wine about the same thing over and over again. But in this book Dee Davis does something amazing, I have nothing to complain about. Not only did I love the heroine because she was bad ass with the bad ass attitude, it was also because she was so easy to care about. The Hero was the same way, as well as all the other characters they weren't huge in this book but the presence of them was felt throughout. I found this book an amazing adventure with action and romance and steam that melted you instead of blowing your head off. It simmered its way on to my never part with shelf.
This was the second book in the series and I can't wait to get my hands on Book 1 and then the rest. If DEE DAVIS can keep me hooked on her other books like this one I might just have a new favorite author!
Madeline and Drake are the main characters and the story takes place in the Columbian Jungles. Madeline is trying to destroy Ortiz Di Silva because he had a hand in her sisters death and they are out to kill Madeline bacause she knows too much. Drake has been sent to help her because she has information they need. There is a lot of excitement and danger in every turn. This story has a mix of danger and romance and I really enjoyed reading this book. Although I hadn't read the first book to the series I found that I had no problem reading and following this story even though it is the second in the A-Tac series. I will be looking forward to the third book which will be out in Aug.
It was immediately obvious to me that this book is part of a series, one of which I haven’t read. That being said – I was surprised that I didn’t get lost or feel like I didn’t get to know the characters. Sometimes with a series, the author relies on previous books to do the character building and doesn’t give enough in the current book for the story to really click with a reader who hasn’t read the previous book…kudos to Dee Davis for keeping this one a stand-alone within a series.
I loved Madeline and Drake…and I especially loved them together. There is nothing that draws me in more than two very strong characters. Madeline is one tough cookie. She doesn’t give in to anything that has happened in her life – and let’s just say she hasn’t exactly gotten it easy. She is a true survivor, doing whatever it takes and dealing with the emotional backfire later.
Strong women need strong men – and Drake is all that and more. His attitude towards women is a bit suspicious at first, but the man has his reasons and he’s about to get a reality check on the integrity of the opposite sex. For such a tough guy, Drake has a sensitive side that is endearing and adds to the complexity of his character. He isn’t perfect, but neither is Madeline. As for the rest of the A-Tac team, the term “adrenaline junkie” comes up a lot, and I have a feeling this is a recurring theme throughout the books.
Dee doesn’t delve into each character as thoroughly as I would expect from a stand-alone book, but since this is a series, the glimpses of each character’s personality makes me want to read more about each one. I haven’t yet looked up the first book in the series (this is the second), but I don’t think it would take you long to figure out which characters were the main ones. But that’s what I love about series, you get to visit the characters you fell in love with after their “happy ending” and see the continuation of their lives.
The “bad guys” in this book are cunning, ruthless, and surprising. While Madeline and Drake are battling their own enemies, there is a much larger villain that appears to operate throughout the books. I’m a sucker for undercover operatives – give me a SEAL, or in this case CIA agent, any day and I’m a happy reader.
If you’re looking for a hot romance with lots of action and intrigue, don’t hesitate to grab Dangerous Desires. If you can’t wait to read this one, but like to start from the beginning, go ahead and do what I’m about to do – check out Dark Deceptions for the first book of the series. Either way, you won’t be disappointed with this Dee Davis book. I’m looking forward to seeing what the rest of this series has to offer.
Dangerous Desires is the second book in Dee Davis's A-Tac series and follows a group of men and women who are member of a CIA black ops unit called American Tactical Intelligence Command (aka A-Tac). The book began with Drake killing a woman he was working with on mission after he found out she was a double agent. He was attracted to the woman and was deeply troubled by what had happened; he vowed never to let a woman get under his skin again. Enter Madeline Reynard and she has been under the thumb of a ruthless crime lord until she found out that the sister she was trying to protect was dead. Now she wants out, has reached out to the U.S. for help and they sent the A-Tac. Madeline knows too much about the crime lord's illegal activities, however, and will stop at nothing to get her back. After being separated from the team, Drake and Madeline were on their own, evading hired mercenaries, surviving the Colombian jungle and fighting their growing attraction to each other.
Madeline is a great heroine--she is resilient, smart, brave, tough and she goes after what she wants. She is a great match for Drake, though I feel Madeline had more of the spotlight than him and that's okay because her past and her years with the crime lord was interesting. But in the end, I feel like I didn't get to know him as much as I did her. I thought Drake and Madeline are great together and there are plenty of chemistry between them. As for secondary characters, I thought the villain was a bit cartoonish especially during the confrontation in the end but we do see Annie and Nash from the first book as well as the other A-Tac members. The most interesting character we are introduced to in this book is Drake's brother Tucker--he was thought to be dead until Madeline proved otherwise and is rescued from a Colombian prison. I hope Tucker gets his own book in the future because I'd like to know more about him. For those who read the first book, Dark Deceptions, the overarching storyline involving the mysterious mole sabotaging A-Tac missions continues in this book and I am anxious to see more about that in the next book.
I admit I wasn't a big fan of the first book so I was a little iffy about starting this book but Dangerous Desires surprised me as it is a lot better than Dark Deceptions. I thought this book was well-written with great characters and the pacing was exciting as there is always something going on. This book, which can be read as a standalone, began with a bang and doesn't let up until the very end. This book is a non-stop, edge-of-your-seat romantic suspense with plenty of action that is hard to put down until you've read the end. 4.25 out 5 stars
This book packed a number of genres within the pages. The book is a page turner and the action propels the reader forward at a very fast pace. Using a C.I.A. special operative team to rescue and extract a woman named Madeline from a dangerous organization in Columbia, the main characters' personalities are quickly established. Most notably is Madeline, the protagonist, who sells her soul to the the devil (Ortiz) in order to be of service to saving her sister. Placed in compromising situations of gathering intel, she does so with the promise that it will eventually help her sister. Only problem is that her sister is dead and Madeline finds out.
Enter the A-Tac team, a specialized force in the CIA who drop into Columbia and, in the midst of gunfire, perilous escape plans, lots of shooting and sabotage which is never resolved in this book (but take heart - book three to make a debut in August 2010). All members of team rescued EXCEPT Madeline and Drake Flynn.
Did I mention Drake Flynn? He's a rather key figure in this story. Last book he played a more peripheral part. This book, his steely blue eyes and square jaw with strong physique are brought into clear glory. Let's cut to the chase; S-T-E-A-M-Y sex scenes spelled out in detail. Might just spice up your bedroom scenes with the detail provided. Or not. These scenes are easily skipped over. They are explicit and go for a few pages but then they are over. I recall three such scenes.
Language is strong at times. The "F" bomb is dropped although not excessively considering it is military talk. If I were to rate it like a movie, it would fall somewhere between PG-13 and R, depending on camera angle.Dangerous Desires
Madeline Reynard goes to Colombia to find her sister. She finds her sister in a flophouse about to be raped. Without thinking Madeline pulls out a gun and kills the attacker. The man was a prominent poleiician and on one woulds believe Madeline's story. She is sent to prison. Madeline is offered her freedom by a crime lord. In order to keep her freedom she must get information from grovement men and also work off her sisters debt. After she finds out her sister is dead and her boss has been lying to her about it she decides to contact the CIA and in exchange for getting her out of Colombia she will turn over all the information she has been keeping on the crime lord, Drake Flynn is a A-Tac extraction expert. A-Tac is an elite CIA black ops unit. He is part of the team that is sent in to extract Madeline. After being betrayed and almost killed by some he thought he loved, Drake is determined to never trust another woman again. When Drake and Madeline end up getting left behind in the jungle, they have to make their way to the coast for pickup. Alone the way they have to avoid the crime lord's men that are trying to take Madeline back. With danger dodging their every step, will Drake and Madeline learn to trust each other? The attraction they feel for each other keeps getting stronger the closer they get to each other.
This is the second installment in Ms Davis's A-Tac series. This in an exciting action-packed, and fast paced story. It will grab you attention and keep ahold of it until the last page. Ms Davis manages to bring the story to live with her flawed hero and heroine, showing that they are like everyday people. This book is a keeper. I have put Ms Davis on my auto buy list. Be on the lookout for the next story, Desperate Deeds out in August
When I read the first book in this series, Dark Deceptions, I was trying something new, as "special ops"-type books are not usually my thing. I was pleasantly surprised, and have been looking forward to Dangerous Desires, the 2nd book in the A-Tac series.
Dangerous Desires did not disappoint! Drake was a great moody Alpha male. Burned at love and trust by another agent, he want's nothing to do with Madeline - he' sure she's untrustworthy from the get-go. I really, really liked Drake.
Madeline's story ripped my heart out... her attempt to help her drug-addicted sister lands her in a Colombian prison. She is released to a drug lord (her sister's source) and forced to do various jobs for him to pay off her sister's debts. Then she learns her sister is dead, and she knows she has to get out. Her attempt to contact the US Embassy ends in her contact's gristly death, and Madeline is ready to give up hope. Then, Drake Flynn comes charging into her room at the drug lord's compound....
The action in Dangerous Desires was high - the jungle adventures and fighting off the bad guys kept me turning the pages. Watching Drake and Madeline get to know each other while fighting for their lives was riveting and their physical relationship progressed at a satisfying pace. I liked them both and was rooting for their HEA. There was also a bonus HEA for them that was super sweet :)
There is still someone sabotaging the Unit's missions. My suspicion from the first book is still my suspicion in this book, and I'm ready to jump into the next book, Desperate Deeds, to hopefully find out who it is. Desperate Deeds takes a little turn from the first two books in the series, as the main character is a female member of the Unit. Based on the excerpt it's going to be good!
Dangerous Desires is the second book of The A-Tac Series. The entire book is full of adventurous non-stop action. So many questions kept arising as the story progressed. Why was Madeline so important that the government called in A-Tac? What is villain Hector Ortiz hiding? Who is the traitor on the A-Tac team? Davis kept readers in nail-biting suspense throughout the entire book.
Drake Flynn, Archaeology Professor and Extractions Expert, is a totally alpha male. When the A-Tac team is sent to Colombia to rescue the mistress of narco-terrorist Jorge di Silva, Drake is forced to travel through the jungles of Colombia with Madeline Reynard, a strong-willed, self-reliant heroine.
Drake and Madeline were immediately attracted to each other. Strong emotions were drawn from the reader as Drake and Madeline had to learn to trust one another to get through the jungle alive. The road to their happily-ever-after was full of emotional road blocks because both Drake and Madeline had betrayal and abandonment issues because of difficult childhood traumas. Nevertheless, the sexual tension between Drake and Madeline is constant. When they make love, steam is almost rising from the pages.
Davis also included little tidbits of information about each A-Tac team member, which causes the reader to want to know more about that person -- and hope that each will have his or her own book. Dangerous Desires is a must read. A more detailed, spoiler-ridden synopsis/review of Dangerous Desires appears at Wolf Bear Does Books
Book two in Dee Davis’ A-Tac series, Dangerous Desires, focuses on team member Drake Flynn. The poor guy let himself fall in love with a double-crossing spy; he was forced to kill her and became bitter and filled with distrust for the female species. Love was marked right off of Drake’s list of things to do until he met Madeline Reynard.
It’s an interesting story line with tons of possibilities; too bad I didn’t believe in the relationship. I couldn’t suspend my belief long enough to enjoy two damaged people falling in love. It just wasn’t plausible for two damaged people to fall in love in less than a month. Especially when you factor in the lack of trust both Drake and Madeline had for one another through the book.
Davis did do a great job showing two people attracted to one another. And she avoided having her characters switch personalities by immediately falling in love. Both either proved the other wasn’t worthy of trust or went through moments of wondering why they allowed the other to lull them into complacency. But it wasn’t enough.
Dangerous Desires has great action scenes and an interesting plot, but as a romance I found it to be lacking. I never fell in love with either character. I also think you should read book one before attempting to read this one. This is the first Davis book I’ve read, so there were a couple of instances when I became confused about what was happening. After reading a little bit more, I think it’s pretty safe to conclude those spots were mentioned in book one of the A-Tac series.
My Thoughts: I love special ops kinda book and this series was a great one. Because they actually have a double life since all agents are professors in a university. Different, right? But the book is still about a lot of action and there’s also some romance and each agent get their HEA with some “special” lady.
This book is for Drake and he’s one of the most alpha characters that I’ve met so far. So it was kinda fun to watch him fall for Madeline simply because he thought she was a bad person. There’s also a more complicated book them the rest since the story doesn’t end when he gets her to a safe place and they actually have to save another person but for this Drake has to believe in Madeline and she kinda is not the best person to put your trust on.
There’s also a spy in the group since book one it continues to try stop them to actually finish the mission. And it’s hard for them to investigate this because they are all friends and one of them is selling their secrets and they could all die for this.
I liked the chemistry between Drake and Madeline. He thinks she’s a nothing more than a prostitute when in reality she was being black mailed and he gets really surprise when the truth came up. She was trying to save her sister and ended up in the middle of a drug cartel, so the only way out is with Drake help.
They decides to scape through the jungle after some plans fall apart and she is more than just a pretty girl. Drake makes this book be really good and the plot was great. There were some changes along the way that I wasn’t expecting, but the story ended up with more than just a happy ending for those two.
As the book opens Drake is forced to kill a woman that he was starting to have feelings for when it becomes obvious that she's a double agent. Following that you learn the Madeline is in prison for murder, committed by her in defense of her sister, but she's able to get out after 3 years with help from a crime lord.
After being forced to work for that crime lord in an attempt to help her sister, Madeline Reynard does what she's told until the day she finds a letter stating that her sister died months ago. Plotting revenge and escape she contacts the US Embassy, and finds herself on the run for her life. The A-Tac team, is an elite secret CIA unit, that is ordered to rescue Madeline and destroy a cache of weapons. Shortly after the mission starts it seems that someone has betrayed the team. On the run from assassins and the crime lords' men Madeline and Drake fight their way through the jungle in an attempt to reach the pre-arranged escape point, on the way they develop feelings for each other. But trust issues are something that Madeline seems to have trouble overcoming as she keeps leaving Drake.
"Dangerous Desires" is the second book in the A-Tac team series and after reading it I'm definetly going to have to get the first book in this romantic suspense series - "Dark Deceptions" as well as look for the third book. I've read a couple of other books by Ms Davis and enjoyed them (two books in the Last Chance trilogy), and this one has the same type of suspense and tension, and is just as enjoyable. I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads.

From My Blog...[return][return]Dangerous Desires by Dee Davis is the second installment of her A-Tac series, bringing back action, adventure, suspense, intrigue, and romance. Dangerous Desires stands well on its own, yet I do recommend Davis’ previous novel Dark Deceptions, which introduces the A-Tac team. The mission this time is for the A-Tac team to go into San Mateo, Columbia, and break into Casa de Orquidea, the known location of narcoterrorists Jorge di Silva and Hector Ortiz, to secure American Madeline Reynard, believed to be Ortiz’s mistress, gather intelligence from her, take out the weapons cache and bring her safely to America. A relatively simple plan for the A-Tac team, yet things rarely go as planned. Dangerous Desires is a fast paced, thrilling novel filled with action and adventure mixed with cunning, wit, and just the right amount of plot twists. Davis once again assembles her delightful and eclectic A-Tac members, Flynn, Brennon, Avery, Marshall, Hanson, Walsh, and Prescott for a mission more complicated than initially thought, especially when Madeline, the woman they were sent to retrieve does not want their type of saving, has her own secrets and will do anything to protect them. Through brilliant narration and vivid imagery, the reader easily becomes absorbed in the novel, trying to guess what will happen next in this non-stop fast-paced thriller that will keep the reader guessing up to the explosive ending. I strongly recommend Dangerous Desires and look forward to the third A-Tac book, Desperate Deeds, due out this August.
This is the second book in the A-TAC series. It's a very good read. It's the first one of Dee Davis's I have read. Unfortunately I done have #1. It's best if you read them in order though you can still enjoy them quite a bit by themselves. I did feel I missed a little by not reading the first book but the author does fill you in on the characters from the first book and what happened. This book had plenty of action, Mystery, and lots of steamy hot sex. A-TAC is a highly covert shadow arm of the CIA that does the BlackOps that nobody else wants. It's a small group of operatives that are undercover at a university called Sunderland. There they pose as professors and students. This book is about Drake Flynn (he's the operative) and Madeline Reynard ( lady in distress who can hold her own & kick butt and not fall to pieces when the bullets are flying-she waits til they are Safe and Drake's big arms make her secure when she falls apart). At first Madeline is part of the assignment, they both argue alot but she and Drake become separated from the others in the Columbian jungle and must rely on each other they become much more. It is a great Romantic Suspense novel. I enjoy her writing very much, it's top notch. Anyone who is into reading romantic suspense novels will love this series. She also has a new trilogy out that's also romantic suspense that's called Last Chance Trilogy. It contains: #1 Engame ( I have this one, haven't read it yet though), #2 Enigma, #3 Exposure. It's just something to check out.
First time reading a Dee Davis book. I was pleasantly suprised. Some books are hit or miss with me. This one sucked me in from page one.
Drake from A-Tac team. He is one hot dude. Drake has learned the hard way not to trust women. But when he is put on a mission to retrieve a package ( Madeline) he knows he wants her but he cant trust her. Madeline has her own trust issues and is just trying to stay alive. The sexual tension between these two is so great. I loved it when they finally just gave in. Damn it was hot. Drake is such a hard ass. He is suspicious of just about everyone. Poor Madeline always has this mask that she is a tough chick. I loved her vulnerable moments. The whole who is the mole was great. I need to read the first book because I have an idea but until I read the first book I might be wrong.
The secondary characters were great. OMG How much do I love ?? I cant say in case it gives something away. lol Cause that was a major part of the book about someone. Lol There was so much action going on that I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. The romance was great as well. It wasn't love at first sight. Maybe not even lust because there was so much going on with them just trying to survive. I think Drake and Madeline were a wonderful couple.
This is the second book in the Dee Davis A-TAC series collection. This book revolves around the handsome Drake Flynn and his quest to get Madeline out of Colombis. This mission for the A-TAC team was off the books order from the CIA. Drake know that if his team has to evacuate from colombia, he was on his own. Madeline the "Package" they were sent their to retrive has here own plans when that does not matches Drakes or the A-TAC team's plans. She has been through so much in the last few years and with the last of her family gone. She starts living for herself and wants to be free.
For a long time Drake never did trust women and he never thought that would change. That is until he meet Madeline, She was differnet then all the other girls he has ever meet and she keeped proving him wrong. When Madeline tells Drake her deep dark secret and when she finds out who Drake's brother is everything changes for the both of them. Their was moments when I started to cry at the amount of detemination and strenght both of them had. How they had to over come so must just to survive. When I read any of Dee Davis book I know that they are just amazing works that I will continue reading, For years to come.
Favorite Quote: "Damn but she was good. Played him like a fucking violin."
Drake Flynn has only one objective...deliver the "package" back to the US safe and sound. But this package has other plans. Madeline Reynard is hell bent on escaping the clutches of a Colombian crime lord. Freedom is within her reach and she'll do anything, even deceive Drake to achieve it. Drake has been burned one to many times by seductive women and has no plans to allow Madeline to do the same. But now they are trapped behind enemy lines with no one to turn to but each other. Will trust win out?
In the second installment of Dee Davis's A-Tac series, Dangerous Desires, we meet Drake Flynn. A black op with the CIA, Drake poses as a Ivy League professor in order to complete his missions. He has been recovering from a gunshot wound received by a double agent he was cavorting with. Now he's ready physically & mentally to go back into the game. An expert in survival, he is picked for a harrowing rescue & extraction of a Colombian crime lord's mistress.
I thought this was a great second book to the A-Tac series and just as good as the first. You can read this book as a stand alone but it blends wonderfully going right from the first to the second book. I do really like the way Dee Davis writes and I was waiting for the second book after reading the first and now really waiting on the third. I think that the mix of suspense, romance and action is perfect. This story is action packed from the start and keeps you interested in it to the very end. I feel that the book is well written and flows well from chapter to chapter and has a great cover to go with it. This may sound silly but I even like the colors of these covers there is something that kind of draws you in and I usually don't pay that much attention to the covers I am big on don't judge a book by the cover cause you can be fooled. The details of the characters are very good and also has plenty of romantic details. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting a great action packed book with some steamy romance. The third book to the series will be out in August 2010 and it is called "Desperate Deeds".
Madeline (great female hero) Drake (I'm rooting for him) As the extractions expert for A-Tac, an elite CIA black ops unit masquerading as faculty at an Ivy League college, Drake Flynn knows how to survive behind enemy lines.
You know reading most books that the ending will likely turn out good. It's just the way it is. But it takes a truly talented person to make you a wreck, even though you know logically what the outcome will be.
I thought Dark Deceptions, Dee Davis' first book in the A-Tac series was excellent. I figured based on her writing ability that this would be a good story as well. I didn't figure on it being better. I had to walk away from this one because it was a heart pounder.
She weaves a good background story and you grow to care for the protagonists. The obstacles in this book were many and the setting hostile. Besides the actual antagonists particular to the story line there is another antagonist that is emerging that is running through all of the books adding that extra element of tension. I love it.
By now you may have guessed that I am not a "book reviewer", I just know what I like. I won't be giving away plots. I won't try to be a professional, because those of us who read, do so for the sheer pleasure of being entertained. So I apologize upfront for that. What you will get is my honest reaction to a story.
Dangerous Desires - A-Tac#2 - (Drake and Madeline)
When I read a book a little outside my usual range, and I'm not thrilled with it, I have a hard time deciding how much is me and how much is the book.
I kept thinking that if I could just put on the same "just go with it" mindset I do when it comes to movies,I might have really enjoyed it.
There was the kick-ass woman and the guy who comes to her rescue, both of them shooting people right and left, jumping over waterfalls, making their way through the jungle. When they stop moving, the inevitable happens, this being a romance novel.
I mean, what's not to like?
As it was, I didn't find the characters (major or minor) to be behaving as I thought they should have in the circumstances. I thought there were a few too many coincidences, and the misuse of technology bugged me, even when the same things wouldn't have flowed right by me in a movie.
In the end, I was entertained, but this book wasn't for me.
I can't say that I've ever been a "big" fan of Dee Davis, but I've usually liked her work. However with this story I really had to force myself to keep reading. To say that I suspended belief (multiple times) would be an understatement. The heroine was a choking mix of TSTL and just flat out idiotic. I felt no sympathy for her at all. The hero seemed more alpha-wannabe than truly alpha and that just came across as sad (in my own opinion).
I presume you know what the book is about. I'm letting you kow what I liked or disliked about it.
I came across this title while drilling down on some new names and reviews and thought a bit of a break from the genre I'd been reading so much of was in order. This was the perfect book to read to "cleanse the pallet" so to speak.
This is a great book and from the sounds of it this reader is a bit slow on the take of knowing about Dee Davis and her work. Having said that I can now say I'm safely in the ranks of the fans that like to read her action packed, romantic, hero friendly work.
I'll definitely be add her other A-TEC Series books to my "to-read" shelf and look forward to getting to them.
Okay, and for the record... Drake is a sexy sexy man :) Madeline is a lucky lady.
This is book 2 in a series about a black-ops CIA group called A-TAC. In this case, they're roaming the jungle of Columbia, trying to take out an arms stash and then protect their informant. Drake ends up doing the jungle trek with Madeline when things go awry and they're left behind on an op. Naturally, they fall into bed. Surprisingly, Madeline discovers that her friend from a Colombian prison might just be Drake's "dead" brother, Tucker. A wild escape ensues. I liked the action and the connections in this. The overarching theme that there is a traitor in the group also keeps me guessing.

Okay, I loved this one. And I really liked Nash and Annie in it too, so I'm definitely going to re-read the first one. Dangerous Desires is about Drake and Madeline and is a great (albeit very dangerous) trek through the jungle with wild animals and bad guys on their trail. The love story is sweet although it seemed to all tidy up in a page, despite Drake's determination that he would never trust a woman again. But that aside, the whole story was a page-turner. The love scenes were hot, the action was (dare I say) "action-packed", and the characters continue to grow on you. I'm really interested to find out who the spy in the organisation is!!!!! Bring on book three!
