Setting: Indian Rebellion of 1857

This could have been as good as Duke of Shadows by Meredith Dunne, if not for the h. She ruined the whole book with her white savior complex. She's opinionated and mean to the Damon. She lectures him CONSTANTLY. The man saves her life and is the only reason she is still alive, but is she grateful? No!

A perfect example of her white savior moments is when she is incognito as a native. She doesn't like how all the women are treated like slaves by their husbands. She asks Damon to treat her better so she can be a better example to the women on how they should be treated. 🙄. This is what matters in the middle of a rebellion?

Is the h a screw to everyone? No. The little hypocrite can keep her mouth shut around her own society. She will voice her opinions only so far before stopping. She won't jeopardize ruining her chance to marry and have children. So maybe stop trying to save another culture that you pretend to admire!

I could rant about the h all day. The last 100 pages, her personality finally improved, but I was done by then. If she had been normal and grateful, this would have been a very good book. I liked the damaged Damon. He deserved to end up with a better woman.
