P.S. It's Gonna Be Good: How God's Word Answers Our Questions about Faith, Fear, and All the Things

Rate this book
How can I hope for a good future with my bad past?
Why them and not me?
Why me and not them?
What if I just don't know what to do?

In our current climate of rising anxiety, we frequently run through worst-case scenarios. So many questions constantly circulate in our minds, and despite our best intentions and honest efforts, fear seems to be winning. We know the Bible repeats, "Do not fear," but how do we do that? What do we do after we've cast our cares on the Lord, memorized Scripture, pumped worship music through every speaker, and yet still feel stuck?

In P.S. It's Gonna Be Good, writer and popular Instagram content creator Heidi Anderson offers a hope-filled response to these questions by using her own journey, as well as pointing us to God's people who have come before us. In each chapter of her insightful, conversational, and highly relational book, she focuses on a different Bible character as if we were walking behind their footsteps in real time, looking at the deep questions that plagued their minds and hearts--the same questions we face today. We will encounter:

Gideon: "What if I don't have what it takes?"
Esther: "What do I do when God feels silent?"
Joshua: "What if God's promises don't line up with my reality?"
Martha: "What about when the worst-case happens?"
And more!

Join Heidi as she walks us straight into the heart of God's Word, where we will experience His peace, find confidence in His good plans, and be set free to meet the future we were made for.

And P.S. . . . It's gonna be good.

Did not finish so won’t give a star rating but I really wanted to like this book because i love following Heidi on instagram. Her resources for children are amazing. I liked the format and following the Bible characters but I couldn’t take any more of the sarcasm in this book.

I thought that the author did a good job of highlighting moments in the Bible that show God’s unfailing track record of faithfulness, grace, love and power. At this particular time in my life, I really needed the reminder of His power and how I can’t/don’t need to rely on my own. It’s important to remember that God’s not removed from our circumstances just watching everything unfold. He’s actively aware and He has already done the hard work by providing us the gift of salvation through His loving sacrifice on the cross. We already know the end of the story…and if we trust in Him…that ending is eternity in Heaven with Him, so all the heavy stuff we face…it has an expiration date…God’s love doesn’t.

The author has a background in youth ministry and at times throughout the book, I did feel like she was talking to a younger audience. Her sarcasm, overuse of the word “hashtag” and other trendy slang started to become a distraction after a while and I found myself skimming through chapters. The core of the message was biblical and passionate, however the presentation was not my preference.

Are you looking for an easy, uplifting, encouraging, bible-centered book that will help you to see how God used ordinary people in the Bible to teach us important truths?! This is it. Heidi has a way of helping the Bible make sense - in a way that is meaningful and useful in our lives. She’s a mom to young kids and has experienced so much of what I experience daily, making her incredibly relatable. I love how her voice is truly that, just like we’re having a conversation through the pages. Give this book a listen, or a read, and expect to be encouraged!

This book was a surprise 5 star!! It’s written as if Heidi is talking to her reader through a podcast or over coffee. But don’t be deterred by the casual writing style - there is so much biblical truth!! Every chapter is rooted in scripture. Highly recommend for seasons of waiting, unanswered prayers, tough news. 🤍

SO GOOD. I absolutely loved this book. I recently discovered Heidi on Instagram and was so excited to read her book. I’ve read a lot of Christian nonfiction and love that Heidi’s book is so firmly based on scripture and Biblical characters, and not her opinions. This book is so encouraging and really helps you learn how to have faith instead of fear in the circumstances of your life and gives extremely practical advice of what that looks like day to day. I highly recommend this book!

A lot of good insight into many different characters but it was hard to get past all the slang, nicknames and constant referrals to readers as girlfriend.

“Any time we wonder, why am I going through this? it’s important to remember that while we can only see some things, God sees all things.”

YOU GUYS. ‼️ Where do I even start with this?! Not to be dramatic but I needed this book. 😭 I first found Heidi on instagram and found her reels hilarious 😂 but then I read the captions and realized they were packed with biblical truth and encouragement. 🙌🏻 So when I saw she wrote a book I was PUMPED. (Also the title of this book should be part of the description too because IT’S SO GOOD).

This book manages to make so many Bible stories accessible and easy to understand, as well as provide encouragement on every single page. Each chapter covers a different person (or people) in the Bible who went through a hard time in one way or another, and discusses ways to learn from their stories. Scripture is weaved throughout the whole book (see post it notes 🥳) that point you to the Word for EVERY situation. It serves as a reminder that if we try to control things on our own we will fail. Every. Time.

It’s clear Heidi knows the Bible inside and out and I’m so glad she chose to share her gift with us! I highly recommend this book! 💖

I enjoyed listening to the author read the audio book. The book is just what I needed to encourage me during a difficult time in my life. Heidi relates her struggles honestly. The writing is funny, but Biblically sound. I will definitely read it again whenever I need to remember that all things work together for the good of those who love the Lord.

Heidi brings biblical truth from scripture to modern day relatability. If you’ve struggled with reading the Bible, then this is the book for you. Each chapter introduces a new Bible hero, then Heidi makes their stories come to life featuring our own day to day fears, joys, and experiences. By the breakdown of each character, you grow a more intimate relationship with their story. Relatability becomes the catalyst for understandability. This book does just that! - The book itself is a quick and easy read. Suitable for all audiences. Although I’m partial to the audio version since Heidi reads it aloud herself. She has an incredible gift of story-telling and this book is an exact reflection of Heidi’s personality and expertise all in one. Do yourself a favor and read this one! p.s. …it’s gonna be good!

Such a great, uplifting book. Heidi uses biblical stories to show that even though we don’t feel like our life is going the way we think it should, God has a greater plan… and PS It’s Gonna Be Good.

Synopsis: “While you may not see what God’s doing in your life, that doesn’t mean he’s not working…When the time is right, you’ll see how God was lining up things all along to bring about good to your life and glory to his name.” Fear, doubt, worry, anxiety: these are often words we can use to describe our life circumstances. It’s easy to feel like we’re drowning in the unknown of the future especially with everything going on in the world today. But God doesn’t call us to live in fear. He calls us to trust Him with everything that we hold dear, and the outcome, well, Heidi’s here to remind us that P.S. It’s Gonna Be Good.

Analysis: I started following Heidi Lee Anderson about a year ago on my personal account because I absolutely loved the practical biblical tips she would share. Her enthusiasm and simple teaching style captivated my attention. And in true Heidi fashion, this book does the same! Conversational, hilarious, and practical, this book takes you on a walk through different Bible characters and how they lived out their faith. Heidi’s humor and real life examples make it easy to read and learn how to live out your own faith. If you’ve ever had even the slightest fear of the unknown (and p.s. who hasn’t?), you’ll want to add this one to your shelves!

Star Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I may be biased, but this book is hands-down a must-read.😂 After being diagnosed with cancer over a decade ago, this (thick) paperback is a compilation of all the questions I had, the truth I found + the encouragement I got straight from the good Lord Himself... now packaged together to "comfort [you] in any trouble with the comfort I [myself received] from God" (2 Cor. 1:4).

But in case you aren't yet convinced, here are 3 reasons why I think you might enjoy it too:

1. While it's all too easy to fast-forward to Bible heroes' highlight reels, it's only when we sit in the middle of their stories that we recognize that same fear, disappointment, stress + overwhelm we feel was also felt by them too... but then when we watch what God has said, done + promised (not just to them, but to us too), we'll find that reassurance, hope, and peace we've been looking for.

2. Every chapter title is a question that (my bet is) you've asked at some point in your life:
What if the worst-case happens?
What if my reality doesn't line up with God's promises?
Why am I off-course?
What about when the world goes crazy... (and I'm kinda tempted to go crazy too)?🤪
And 16 more. Each chapter, we follow a new Bible hero to discover the answer...

3. Naomi may or may not slay at Tetris. King Xerxes may have been the original Bachelor. And Jehoshaphat may have commanded a whole nation to give up their queso and mochas for the day to pray instead...

4. Okay, bonus: Someone just DMed me saying they laughed, cried + never felt more seen by God... and they were only in the introduction.😂 If you're looking for all the feels with a book packed with truth, hope, and humor, this is for you.

I ‘read’ this book as an audiobook and it was narrated by the author herself which was a nice touch. It was so well written and so biblically based. I was literally teary eyed on several occasions because of all of the reminders of how good God is. The way that Heidi made the Bible stories of old relevant and practical for today is priceless. I knew all of the Bible characters and their stories, but I feel like as a child growing up, we always ‘got to the good part’, aka the answered prayers, without focusing on all the time it took for the men and women of the Bible to get there. It’s so much more relatable when you actually realize the amount of time some of them had to wait to feel and live God’s faithfulness. Which makes the Bible so much more relatable when put into perspective like that. Her personality and humor were also very evident which made it funny and enjoyable. It’s a book that I will probably want to reread and refer to over and over again for encouragement and peace in times of fear. Definitely highly suggest for any Jesus-loving girlfriends!!

My *only* complaint is that I feel like she wayyy overuses hashtags. But perhaps it’s more obvious in the read-aloud version because she literally says “hashtag” before every hashtag phrase and it gets redundant to me. But, definitely not a dealbreaker.

"P.S. It's Gonna Be Good: How God's Word Answers Our Questions about Faith, Fear, and All the Things", by Heidi Lee Anderson, details what the Bible says about fear and anxiety. Anderson discusses the things that cause us to fear, and the normalcy of experiencing that emotion. In this book, the lives of well-known Bible characters, such as Esther, Martha, and Gideon, are considered. I particularly liked the portion about Daniel, and the author's assertion that "it was only in the fire when the king could see Jesus." I had never had that realization.

I was a little dismayed by all the mentions of pregnancy and infertility in the book, but that's my fault for not researching it more before requesting the book. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

I love how this book walks alongside biblical characters and helps us see beyond just their highlight reels. We dive into how God uses each of their stories (the good, the bad, the hard, etc.) for His glory. But, that’s not all. He is ALSO using OUR hardships and trials to work for the good of those who love Him. What an incredible promise to see time and time again through digging into the lives of these Bible heroes. This book addresses questions we all ask in life (i.e. what if I don’t have what it takes, what do I do when God feels silent, what about when God lets bad things happen). Heidi answers them with biblical truth and a whole lot of humor along the way. Her ability to write as though she is right next to me, speaking right to me makes it an easy page turner. So encouraged and challenged by this book to live in light of God’s Word throughout all of life’s challenges. A must read and a must have on your book shelf!

I honestly loved getting to journey through the Bible with Heidi’s perspective and this book was tremendously encouraging!!!
I’m so sorry to have to deduct one star because the personal annotations and hashtags were just toooo much #iykyk I honestly have nothing against that style of writing and I love that the author seems very approachable and #relatable lol but PLEASE if there is ever another book coming out HOLD BACK with those little annotations. Because the content of the book is so solid and the writing already is fun and enlightening, all the other stuff sadly is distracting.
BUT even though I got super annoyed every time that cursive font appeared, I still made it through the book which says something!!

This is a book filled with convicting and simultaneously encouraging words that can help you achieve powerful and practical perspective shifts in so many areas of your life. Heidi takes Bible stories and shows how they relate to us and our struggles today—how we have that same God still showing up for us too. It is written conversationally and feels like having a chat with Heidi herself. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone struggling with trials, why-me situations, and hard seasons. Listening to the audio was so fun since Heidi narrates it, but I am more than ready for my physical copy to come in too, so I can reread and mark it all up.

This book is so much more than just a memoir or a topical Bible study. It feels as if you're sitting across from a trusted friend that is honest, wise, and super funny. Heidi shares openly of how God has branded this message of faith over fear on her own heart, and uses biblical characters and text to further illustrate this point. I have been listening to the audio book, but I am so excited for my physical copy to come in the mail so that I can go back and underline all the things that have stuck out to me. P.S. It's Gonna Be Good is the encouraging truth that our hearts need that God has our lives in His hands and He knows the end of all of our stories, and it's gonna be good.

Ps. It’s Gonna Be Good is a rally cry for anyone in this day and age, who struggles with doubt, questions “why God?”, and is trying to make sense of the hardships and trials they are facing in life.

Through humour and hashtags, Heidi Anderson reminds us just how relatable Biblical characters and their lives are to us in the 21st century. Chapter by chapter Heidi leads us straight to the one who is not surprised or alarmed by anything occurring or not occurring in our lives. God “works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose,” (Romans 8:28) and that includes trials & tribulations!

Heidi’s writing is down to earth and full of practical encouragement. She knows what it feels like to be in the thick of struggles and through this book communicates how to truly believe that it’s going to be good, no matter what we’re walking through or what we’re facing. Her sense of humour adds a lightness to her writing - it feels less like reading a book and more like sitting with a good friend over a cup of coffee. She’s relatable, she’s funny, she’s encouraging and this book is a true reflection of that. She shares hope and has helped encourage me in my faith and as I walk with God and believe for all the good he has in store!

This is seriously the best devotional book I have EVER read and you will be so happy you purchased it!! It is seriously life changing and calms my anxieties. It also puts your mind in the place of many Bible characters and makes you understand they are just like us and have gone through the same feelings and stresses!! It also shows how God leads them through troubling times and in the same way will lead you too! This book will cause you to have so much peace and just want more books from Heidi Lee Anderson!!

If you have ever felt that you were at the bottom of the barrel with no way to see the light and that God had left you behind read this book!! Heidi has been blessed with such an amazing gift to share God's love and acceptance and Grace. You will feel like you are chatting with your very best friend while reading, and honestly, that's what Heidi becomes through her book. She also reads the audio book, and that makes it even more special. I highly recommend PS it's gonna be good!

I have been following Heidi on Social Media for a few years now and when I learned she was writing a book I couldn't wait to get my hands on it!!

Heidi has helped me with my own faith journey over the last few years and listening to her words as I fold relentless laundry has brought about a sense of peace to me. I really hope you also feel this sense of peace as you dive into PS It's Gonna Be Good!

Heidi shares candidly and biblically from the Word of God, while sharing vulnerably and in her signature humor from her own life experiences. She reminds her readers that God is the same, yesterday, today, and forever as we see His faithfulness to His people in the Bible, as we read about how He’s shown up in Heidi’s life, and how we’re challenged to pause and remember His faithfulness to us. Even better, we’re challenged to look ahead through all the unknowns and heartbreaks of life, and know that He’s still faithful there. Heidi’s right - it is gonna be good!

This book is an absolute must-read!! Heidi does an amazing job relating real life situations to characters and stories in the Bible. The book dives into the questions we are all thinking while helping to boost confidence in the good news and God’s good plan! Sometimes digging into Bible stories can be a little dry, let’s be honest, but Heidi keeps it fun, interesting and entertaining. It is an easy read and leaves you wanting more. The audiobook is wonderful as you can hear Heidi read her book while enjoying her fun humor. You will not regret this purchase!!

My goodness, my soul needed this book. The author uses biblical stories to help make sense of the toughest things we go through as humans and gives us hope for the future while turning us toward God alone. I loved every bit of, and although I listened for free through my Hoopla app, I was only two chapters in when I ordered a physical copy because I know this is going to be read again and again. Highly recommend to any believer who has lost a loved one or has struggled with trusting God after a difficult life circumstance. A million stars!

I follow Heidi on instagram. I had wanted to read this book for a LONG time and I finally did when I started a book club with some Christian friends. I loved this book with its simple and easy to follow and understand concepts. The sarcasm and shared internal dialogue was annoying at times, but I also liked to see the personality of Heidi come out. It felt sort of like she was reading the book along with me. I kind of enjoyed her little comments and relatable examples. I look forward to reading her next book.

I listened to P.S. It's Gonna Be Good through the Hoopla app (through my library) on a road trip this summer to visit my parents and family. It was so profound and phenomenal that when I got to my parent's house, I immediately ordered 2 physical copies of the book, one for me to reread and highlight and one for my mom. It has helped and encouraged us so much. Heidi's narration is amazing and made it feel like I was driving with a best friend! I highly recommend this book - and if you can listen to the audio version, you won't be disappointed!
