The goal of this text is that the study of world civilizations, by showing students the processes that have brought them and their neighbors together, will help them better understand and appreciate one another.
I've become convinced this book is part of a hazing process for young historians. Anyone who's given this more than one star indeed must loathe history greatly. Haphazard and uninspired. Pass this book up, unless you are in dire need of a head ache.
Please, for the love of the gods, choose a different 'survey' text for history professors.
Ug! I took an Ancient History class and had to read this book in 5 weeks!!! Ok, well, we didn't read cover to cover...but it was a vast majority of the book broken into units of Civilizations verses time periods as the book is written. Ug Ug Ug.
This may cloud my perception because it was incredibly fast, but, I did find myself saying out loud "you just wrote that!" I found the repetition in facts super redundant and the flow very croweded... I think either Craig, or one of the many other authors should write their own books and not each others...
Ug. Ug Ug.
But history is really cool... and there was a TON of information about humanity in the book, so please, don't burn it ever, just... maybe take 12 weeks to read each chapter instead of 5.
headache,headache,headache...helps for class though! Not as overly dry a read as some; but also not organized very well. Information was all over the place! I enjoyed some of the random facts that you don't really need to learn though...
