Rasetsu Hyuga works for an exorcist agency where she uses her special powers to banish evil spirits. There's a story behind the red flower mark on her chest though--it's a memento left by a powerful spirit who vowed to claim her on her 20th birthday. Unless Rasetsu can find true love by then, she is fated to become his...
The past comes knocking when Yako runs into his old rival Mei Tendo. And the trip down memory lane doesn't stop there--when Yako gets attacked by a horde of ancient ghosts, it seems that his old love Yurara is connected to the onslaught!
Chika Shiomi has an amazing talent for depicting chilling and provocative horror stories that appeal to both shojo and shonen readers. Having created manga since 1993, starting with short stories in Akita Shoten's Mystery Bonita magazine, she has had a bountiful career of publishing both long-running series and short stories that have become popular both in Japan and abroad. Shiomi-sensei loves to travel and listen to Guns 'n Roses.
We learn a bit more about both Yako and Kuryu. There is a story with a character from Chika Shiomi's earlier series that I didn't read. The ghosts all seemed sort of pointless. Centipedes and samurai.
Today’s post is on Rasetsu, Vol. 6 by Chika Shiomi. It is 200 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. The cover has Yako and Kuyru on it with bones and roses around them. As it is the sixth in the series you need to have read the first five volumes to understand the story. There is no foul language, no sex, and no violence in this manga. The intended reader is someone who likes horror flavored love stories. The story is told from third person close of mostly Rasetsu but sometimes other characters for plot development. There Be Spoilers Ahead.
From the back of the book- The past comes knocking when Yako runs into his old rival Mei Tendo. And the trip down memory lane doesn't stop there--when Yako gets attacked by a horde of ancient ghosts, it seems that his old love Yurara is connected to the onslaught!
Review- The plot is moving quicker and quicker as Rasetsu’s time is starting to run out. There are multiple stories in this volume from a curse that was trying to get Yako because of the original Yurara to Mei making Yako think about his real feelings towards Rasetsu. Rasetsu and Yako are moving closer together and that is annoying Kuryu who is trying to press his pursuit of Rasetsu and she doesn't know what to think about him. But she is doing her best to handle everything. I am enjoying where the story is going and I hope that soon we will get more information about the spirit that cursed her and maybe what she can really to do fight back. Only three volumes left in this series, so things are getting tight.
I give this volume a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
It was nice seeing a character from Yurara; he actually wasn’t annoying to me here like he was in the previous series. Even though two characters are on the same page - finally! - with their feelings, there are still three volumes of drama to undergo...
Kuryu is getting more interesting and I love the ending with Yako. Very curious about how this ties up over the next three volumes. (And yes! (人 •͈ᴗ•͈) I'm finally fully invested like I'd hoped I'd be from volume 1! Just sucks that it took until mid-the end of book 5 to get there.)
This was definitely an inbetweener volume and basically set up and backstoried (it's a word!..that I made up..) Yako and Kuryu. A fascinating one, but not quite as tantalizing and exciting as the last few have been.
There was that cute moment at the end when Yako started to realize his feelings though...:D
I have a hunch, maybe that demon was Kuryu after all?? He doesn't eat, or sleep, he has nothing in his apartment, so what the heck? He's hiding something. I love when books like these make you think.
Kuryu is showing a lot of his colours - good and bad to Rasetsu directly in this one. Yako himself comes to a very - for him - surprising revelation at the end of the book. A former friend from his school days (hero of the Yurara manga) shows up a second time points out to him with glee.
