I enjoyed this book immensely. Once I started reading I had a hard time putting it down and ended up reading the whole thing in one day. I'd probably have to say that this is my favorite of the series so far.

Series Note: This book is the third in the House of Pleasure series (historical erotic romance), but can likely be read as a stand-alone with no problems. There are some references to past events and characters, but the story is pretty independent. I believe there is also a cameo from a character from one of Pearce's Ellora's Cave books - not entirely sure on that, though.

In the previous two books of this series, the characters visited an exclusive, private pleasure house where they could explore their sexuality freely. The proprietor of the house was Madame Helene Delornay. In Simply Shameless, readers get to learn Helene's story.

Helene has a tragic past. Her family was imprisoned during the french revolution and Helene watched as each was taken to their death. Her life was spared so that she could be a whore for the guards. After two years of that she manages to find a way out through a older protector. And after he dies, she travels to England to seek help from some people she once helped. Before she arrives in London, she shares a coach ride with a handsome young gentleman, Philip Ross. A snowstorm leads to a weekend of passion before the two go their separate ways.

Years later, Helene is the successful part owner of Madame Helene's House of Pleasure. The place is not a brothel, but an exclusive private club where members of the ton can come together to explore their sexuality and fantasies. The last thing she expects one night is for Philip Ross to show up, and then she finds out that he has inherited shares in the club from one of the original partners who just passed away.

Philip is not the man she once new. A horrible marriage has turned him into someone who denies his sexuality. But the passion between them still exists and it isn't long before Philip is learning to be the man he once was. And both are coming to find that there is more between them than lust, but can they find happiness considering the lives they lead?

Erotic romance books tend to be hit or miss for me. So many are just pages of copious, gratuitous sex without much else going on. Which gets boring and repetitive. This series by Kate Pearce, while still very sexual, is much more well-rounded. There's an actual story with the characters...a romance, emotions, angst, turmoil. And that balances out all the sex and makes the story much more interesting. While reading the books in this series, and especially this last one, I've never once been bored. I've been sucked into the story, the characters, etc.

I have to admit that when I first saw, quite a while back, that this book was to be about Madame Helene, owner of the pleasure house, that I was a bit unsure of how she would work out as the heroine of a story. She seemed nice enough, but turning the female owner of a sex club in historical England into a heroine isn't typical. So I wasn't sure if the story would work. But author Kate Pearce did an excellent job with Helene. She had a backstory that made her situation in life make sense. She was a proud, independent woman who overcame tragedy and saw no shame in exploring ones sexuality. Helene was just a very likable heroine and she really worked as the lead in a book. I was pleasantly surprised.

The character of Philip was intriguing as well. He's got some interesting hang-ups, caused by a traumatic marriage. I thought that Pearce added a nice dimension to the story with what she did with Philip. Definitely a bit atypical there. And it made for some great character development.

Plus, he and Helene together were great. Fantastic chemistry between the two. I liked that Helene gave him freedom to explore his sexuality and that she realized she could trust him and submit to him. There was just a really great dynamic between them.

I also enjoyed the other elements of the story. Helene's oldest daughter elopes and then has...problems, needing her mother. And Helene's twin 18 year-olds have to come to terms with what their mother does. Plus there was an issue with an old friend of Helene's. All those things added depth to the story and kept it from being a shallow sex-fest.

And speaking of sex...there's definitely some hot stuff in this book. I would say that this book is probably not as sexually based as the other two, but it's still damn hot. And since most of the book takes place at the pleasure house, there are a lot of references to what acts others are committing...so it's not really a book for the closed-minded.

All around this was just a really good book. I had not complaints at all when I finished. I loved the romance, the characters, the story...every part hooked me in. If you're a fan of historical erotic romance, then this is definitely a series to try. I'm really looking forward to the next book, Simply Wicked, which will be Anthony Sokorvsky's story. I've heard it will be a darker tale...not surprising considering what readers know about poor Anthony. But I'll definitely be buying it as soon as it comes out.

Side note: though this is a historical erotic romance, the author tends to use more modern language, at least in a sexual sense. Which is worth mentioning since readers tend to have a preference in this area.

WARNING, this book contains: explicit sex and language, oral sex, anal sex, toys & toys used on men, ass play, bondage, spanking, and m/m oral sex. Also there are references to m/m sex, f/f sex, BDSM, sex involving a minor (Helene's past), group sex...etc etc etc...you get the picture, right?

7 out of 10

This is my 7th (!) book in this series (including bonuses) and I'm still intrigued to continue with it.

First installments were very sex-centered, but I've seen their depth and wanted Kate Pearce to give me more of psychological side of her work. And here we are! I like how bold and thoughtful the author is, what kind of problems she does bring up, how she sees people's sexuality.

And I adore (yeah, I'm that perv) the idea of House of Pleasure. What a place! There's no prostitution, only wealthy men and women who come to a private club to find somebody with the same fantasies they do have. Clients themselves pleasure each other, by mutual consent only. The more I find out of the House's structure, the more I admire it. I, for one, won't go to the top floor, but there are people for whom such an extreme sex means joy and here they can free safe. Isn't it great? There's also a room for those how ashamed of their possible desires. It's a completely dark place there you won't see who came to give you what you crave and this person won't see you. Pure anonymity. And that's just a hint of what the House can offer. By the by, this particular book is about its owner and mastermind Madame Helene.

And I swear, if not for very explicit content I'd recommend this series to masses for its awesome plot, well-conceived heroes and serious topics, but this read is not for everyone. You have to be open-minded, curious and ready for unusual problems and situations the characters live with and in. Sometimes it's hot, sometimes it's really painful, while sometimes it's even disgusting. But the main law of House of Pleasure holds that you don't have to do anything you're don't want to or aren't ready for. So the choice is all yours.

In truth, she didn’t need him or any man, but he hoped to God she wanted him to stay around anyway.

The good thing about Simply Shameless is Helene and Philip Ross.

The bad thing about Simply Shameless is that there aren't the erotic scenes the reader has come to expect from Kate Pearce in the House of Pleasure series.

The first two books wind the reader up for one erotic moment after the next and this one just didn't do that. Instead, we get a good understanding of Helene and how the House of Pleasure works. Tis a gentleman's club for super freaks. There are actually no sex workers but rich people who pay to indulge in their wildest fantasies in a discreet setting. If there are any paid staff, they are Helene's staff who simply get to indulge in it like a workplace perk. I liked the little bits of financial history such as knowing that the annual membership and renewal fees at Helene's cost more than White's.

I love Helene and she was the heroine we deserved after the first two books where the heroines start to blend in. Helene is not an innocent heroine keen to explore with her man. Helene is a strappy survivor dealing with her teenage children.

I also loved how the young romantic Philip turned out to be a repressed prude in later age - it was a great reversal to read!

One thing to note as some GoodReads reviewers have already pointed out, why do all the heroes and heroines in this series who enjoy pleasures outside the mainstream missionary have a history of sexual abuse??

When I picked this one up I really had not idea what to expect and didn't realize it was book #3 in a series. I think it was fine to dive into book 3 It works as a stand alone.

My favorite part about this book was the romance between Helene and Phillip. I loved that they had a second chance at love. I was a little startled at the m/m scenes but I was okay with them and saw them as part of Phillips journey to rediscover himself after a horrible marriage.

I didn't give this one 5 stars because I felt it dragged a tiny bit after Helene and Phillip first part. In all fairness that may also be a result of my reading the whole book in one sitting. I just could not put it down.

This is a Historical Erotica Romance with incredibly hot sex. This is not for all HR readers it is without a doubt very erotic but the sex never over shadowed the Romance and in my opinion enhanced it.

Wow, I really enjoyed this part, more so than any of the others up to date (including the two novellas).

I wasn't really looking forward to delving deeper into Helene's story, but I found it to be fascinating and Philip going from dashing young lover to grumpy old widowed fart was a hoot.

I have one criticism though.

The best in the series so far! I LOVED these characters; strong characters, great build up of personal history and interesting background history and setting; post french revolution. The characters had chemistry and passion and unlike the others, this was a very confident, assertive female lead in control of her own sexuality. I found it interesting how she came into the life of a Madame. Her history made for a much mroe sympathetic and strong character.

Its a HOT read!!! A++ reccomended.

I really did love this book Helen is so witty and sharp tongued that it makes for a great and funny read, Especially when the target of her tongue lashings were often Phillip. I think they make an amazing couple and he is definately her equal in the sense he would never give in to what she wants just because she wants it.

Philip Ross(20)returning from India to an arranged marraige meets Helene Delornay (18)and they spend a night of passion together. Philip proposes but Helene tells him she was a whore and refuses. Philip goes on to marry and Helene with the help of the titled people she helped to escape the Bastille opens the House of Pleasure.

Now 18 years later and fate has thrown these 2 together again. Philip is now a widower and has inherited a title and a share in Helenes house of pleasure. Philip is not the sexually adventurous young man he was 18 years ago, marraige has sucked all the hope and passion out of him but he has never forgotten Helene, while Helene always wonders about the love that could have been. A wager and 30 days together brings back all their passion and desires.

Loved Philip, but at first couldn't believe anyone would propose after a night and dream about that person for 18 years, but as the story unfolds by the end of the book I believed it. In my opinion Philip in proposing was trying to keep control of his life with his choice of bride, and then when he was in the marraige from hell he dreamt of his fantastic night of sex with Helene to keep him sane. Helene was a great Heroine and I got the fact why she wanted to remain in control of her life. I loved the fact that the H/H know that they wouldn't have been right for each other 18 years ago.

KP is on my auto buy list now. I loved every single erotic escapade but I didn't think this book was as sexually shocking as the first 2. I loved the fact MY Anthony made an appearance and cant wait to find out more about the other secondry characters especially David Gray. I could have cried when David didn't stay and join the H/H in the room near the end of the book. Good hot book.

I loved this book. Loved it.....loved it......loved it. I didn't want it to end, I couldn't put it down and the only reason I didn't read it in one sitting was because, you know, I have a job to go to.

Book 3 of this series tells the story of Madame Helene - who is the owner of the House of Pleasure. I love a good tortured hero. I also love a good tortured heroine. Fortunately for me, this book has both.

The book starts out with Helene, traveling alone from France to England to start a new life for herself. On her way there, she meets Philip Ross. Initially, she ignores him....but when a carriage accident forces them to spend a few nights together at an inn in the middle of nowhere - things heat up quickly. At the end of their few days together, they realize that their little fling is really something more. Philip ends up proposing marriage to Helene, but is swiftly turned down because Helene just can't bring herself to trust him or think she's good enough for him. He storms off and they part ways......for the next 18 years.

Through a series of events, Philip comes back into Helene's life 18 years later, and neither of them can deny that the attraction and the passion they once had are still there.

So far, I have loved both books in this series. When I got to this one, I honestly thought I was going to dislike it. I mean, I really didn't care about Helene, the owner of the House of Pleasure......until I learned about her backstory. Oh man. Talk about breaking your heart. And Philip, too. Geez. If two people EVER deserved a HEA - it's these two.

I would give this one more than 5 stars if I could.

This was ok, but not as good as the first two books, Simply Sexual and Simply Sinful.

Philip was in India for awhile where he learned erotic delights. He returns to England where he meets and shows Helene what he knows. They fall in love at first sight, but Helene leaves him because his family arranged a marriage for him to another woman, and Helene refuses to be a mistress to him. She opens a private club for men – a house of pleasure. Years later, Philip’s wife dies. Philip inherits an ownership share in the private club from another relative. He spends time with Helene concerning club business, and they fall in love again.

Story length: 298 pages. Sexual language: strong/erotic. Number of sex scenes: 16. Setting: 1801 and 1819 England. Copyright: 2009. Genre: erotic regency romance.

What a delicious reunion! Helene often faced her regrets on refusing Philip years ago, but she is a survivor and made a success of her life when her future had only been bleak. Now meeting Philip again, she sees that the man who had been filled with adventure and passion has been robbed of joy and lived a life of duty and structure. Though the path they now travel is wrought with the haunts from their pasts, they find each others love again. This is another from Ms. Pearce that I will read again and again! An excellent read!

More complicated than the first two in the series, and in some respects better. It was not what I expected as it wasn't as erotic as the first two.

This was much more character development and history. I do like the real world problems and how the characters try to make them worse while claiming that they are just doing the best that they can.

What a remarkable book this one is! Ergo, five stars are given to this book. I agreed with others who had read this book that the story is so, so great and it's the best too! Much better than the previous two books.

I liked the beginning of this book where Helene and Philip met for the first time. The instant spark of love happened between them. Although the event was short, it was so romantic and filled with so much love. I awed. However, these two separated. When two were meant together, they would meet someday. Thus, it's called FATE. After 18 years, Philip and Helene met again. The fact that these two were tortured souls and realized they still do love each other. Again, I awed.

There's no third party involvement (even if there is, the significance is rather low) in this book which makes me to love it even more.

I read this title for a couple of challenges this month. Lucky, lucky me! : ) Somehow I'd left this title on the back burner. I don't know how it didn't burn a hole thru my e-library in the meantime. Loved this story, the heroine was so worth the wait. There were glimpses of her in the 2 previous installments, I had no idea she was being set up for her own book. There was a lot of time and history covered in this read, flashbacks abound. Much of it I would consider dark, it did not take away from the story for me. I found it added a great depth. Again, a historical and freakin' hot read. In the end, the emotional part of story is what has stayed with me.

I really enjoyed this book. I began the series with this one and had no problem with the story, which was nice.

I really liked the hero and heroine in this one. Helene with her tragic past was a strong character, and I found Philip intriguing. There passionate encounter is absolutely hot, and I love that they get a 2nd chance at love. The dynamic between these two in wonderful, Philip and Helene are so passionate with each other, and I enjoyed watching Philip also rediscover himself.

Once I picked this one up, I had a hard time putting it down. Great book.

This was another excellent addition to the House of Pleasure series. It was somewhat thicker in plot and had a little less action that previous books in the series but that didn't really diminish its appeal. This was a book that brought in aspects of the French Revolution nicely and gave light to some of the harsh realities of that time. It was very interesting to see how the House began and get to know the enigmatic character Madame Delornay and understand her history. This is an excellent read and readers of the series will enjoy this book immensely.

¡3 ESTRELLAS!

Over eighteen years ago, Helene Delornay and Philip Ross met on their way to new lives. When a carriage accident left them stranded at an inn, neither could resist the temptation the other presented. Long hours of passion connected Helene and Philip in ways they never expected. But Helene, who survived the worst horrors of the French Revolution only because she was traded to the guards at the Bastille, doesn’t believe herself a good enough match for the gentleman who so quickly captured her heart and thus she turns Philip’s marriage proposal down.

Now Helene is the owner of London’s most exclusive pleasure house and though her dreams of love died nearly two decades ago, Helene is proud of what she has accomplished. Madame Helene’s House of Pleasure offers its patrons every desire they could imagine; no limitations as long as their pleasures are between consenting adults. What Helene doesn’t expect is her greatest desire to walk through her establishment’s doors.

An unexpected turn of events has brought Philip Ross back into Helene’s life and into her business as well. The years have not quelled either’s passion for one another and soon the pair embarks on an erotic exploration of one another’s fantasies. But can Helene and Philip overcome past hurts and trust one another enough to take their second chance at love?

Brava, Kate Pearce! Simply Shameless is a book worthy of the proprietress of a pleasure house. Both the characters and the book itself are intelligent, open, understanding, and wonderfully seductive.

It’s impossible not to fall in love with Helene and Philip. Helene is a survivor through and through. She has been through some of the worst life has to offer and has come out the other side successful, strong, and deeply caring. From the very first book in the series I admired Helene, but after reading Simply Shameless my respect for her reached new heights. And nothing made me happier than discovering the hero Ms. Pearce created for such a fantastic heroine fit her to perfection. Upon first meeting Philip, it is clear he is a man full of joy and life and I was immediately charmed. It broke my heart to see that the intervening years of his separation from Helene sucked the happiness right out of him. I enjoyed watching him take control of his life and sexuality; it made his reunion with Helene all the sweeter (and spicier as well). It would be remiss of me to write about Simply Shameless without mentioning its blazingly sensual love scenes. Ms. Pearce has a knack for raising the heat of the room in the space of just a few sentences, nevermind an entire book.

Though the third book in Ms. Pearce’s exquisite House of Pleasure series, Simply Shameless can be read on its own. Readers who loved Simply Sexual and Simply Shameless will catch a brief glimpse or mention of the characters they adored from the previous House of Pleasure books. What’s more, Simply Shameless is sure to leave one aching for the next story, Simply Wicked; it sure did for me. All in all I must say that, as one of the finest works of a supremely talented writer, Simply Shameless is not to be missed!

How it all began! Helene

I couldn't put it down! It was a great read...and explains about how she became the person she becomes and what horrors she endured.

I cannot remember when it was that I read this series or why I failed to write any reviews. Overall the first three books (which I was able to borrow from the library as a set: Kate Pearce Bundle: Simply Sexual, Simply Sinful and Simply Shameless) were fairly good bundle of entertainment. I would say 3.5/5 on average.
The background on Lord Valentin Sokorvsky of Simply Sexualand his friend Peter Howard whose story is Simply Sinful, is fairly dark. Their stories were fairly engaging, though the story that I reflect on the most often is Simply Shameless. There is something about Helene Delornay's story that has always stuck with me. It is haunting what a person will do to survive and how those choices might stay with them.
These books are highly graphic and high on the kink-o-meter. Kate Pearce is one of the most talented erotic literature writers I have read. Given the scope covered and the balance of depth and smut, for those who enjoy these types of books they should definitely take the time to read one of her series.

The one who started all

Story of Helene, one who started the ever exclusive club. Her history is revealed and her character and love. Definitely shocking amount of heat inthis story but also two people who love each other like no other.

Kinky but interesting

Not quite as good as physical foreplay, but close. An interesting balance of suspense and sensuality. The intimate scenes are a treat to experience, and unlike some sensual literature, do not require the agility of a contortionist.
