Maxie Mouse Mystery #2

Pride and Pestilence

Rate this book
Pest Control takes on a whole new meaning in Melnik. . .

Joe Manning comes to Melnik, Nebraska, to finally meet his runaway father, Sven Gunderson, only to find dear old dad is dead. Murdered. And Joe’s bad attitude makes him the prime suspect…even though he’s never met the man.
Or so he says.
Bonnie Simpson is attacked while she's at work in the Melnik Historical Society Museum, proud home of Maxie—The World's Largest Field Mouse. Only her attacker now claims he was really trying to save her. The car that plowed into the museum, and is now parked right on top of the spot Bonnie was standing, lends credence to his claims.
What’s not an accident is the dead guy in the museum’s store room.
Bonnie wants to be suspicious but once Joe stops attacking her he turns out to be pretty sweet. And lots of people had a motive to kill Sven Gunderson— including Bonnie. Because Gunderson committed the ultimate Melnik crime. He claimed to be the true owner of Maxie, and he wanted his mouse back.
In Melnik, any threat to Maxie means war!

Ok, the writing is so bad, and the madcap storyline is over the top wacky, but it's a quick read and a decent escape from a toothache and dentist visit... And since I already have book 3 from the library I think I'm going to go ahead and read on about the crazy town of Melnik, NE.

Saga of Nebraska town and its stuffed dead mouse continues with same characters. Now Bonnie, the librarian and historical museum curator, develops a spunky side after Dora demolishes the museum and nasty, miserly Sven is found dead in a storeroom. She is involved with newcomer Joe, Sven's illegimate son, who inherits Sven''s money and falling-down mansion. Mansion is "haunted" by the murderer, lurking in secret passageways and spying on Joe through multitude of cracks and crannies in decaying house.

I really enjoyed this book but it did slow down a bit near the end. I skimmed the slow parts till I came to results of the ending.

Maybe it is my headache but I found this book hard to follow. Didn't read more than 20 pages.
