Duck, Edward, Thomas, and all the engines on the Fat Controller's line are delighted when Stepney comes to visit them from the famous Bluebell Railway.
Wilbert Vere Awdry, OBE, better known as the Rev. W. Awdry, was an English clergyman, railway enthusiast and children's author, and creator of Thomas the Tank Engine, who starred in Awdry's acclaimed Railway Series.
The characters that would make Awdry famous, and the first stories featuring them, were invented in 1943 to amuse his son Christopher during a bout of measles. The first book (The Three Railway Engines) was published in 1945, and by the time Awdry stopped writing in 1972, The Railway Series numbered 26 books. Christopher subsequently added further books to the series.

A charming little hardback book which forms part of a series. Full of nicely detailed and colourful illustrations this is a big favourite of my son's.
This is probably my favourite in the series. Stepney is such a lovable, good natured character and i've had the pleasure of riding a 'steamy' on the real Bluebell Railway in Sussex!
This was actually a great addition to the railway series. Step met is just such a lovable guy, and hearing his tales of survivalism, while kind of bleak for a children a book, was kind of cool. The last story in particular was pretty satisfying.
What did I learn? That Awdry still didn’t like Diesel engines at this point (maybe never did) and that’s team engines should not have been a thing of the past. Oh yeah and don’t be a jerk.
