Here's a delightful Christmas book with attractive, winter-inspired illustrations--a wonderful gift for a child to find beneath the Christmas tree. It's Christmas morning, and a little rabbit named Pocket is playing in the snow with his brothers and sisters. But when the other rabbits hurry to the skating pond, Pocket stays behind, lost in thought. He is wondering about the meaning of Christmas. When Pocket sees a trail of tiny footprints he decides to follow them through the snowy woods, hoping that they might lead him to discover Christmas's meaning. Pocket follows the footprints all the way to a cozy cottage, and it is there, on the cottage doorstep that his Christmas wish comes true. Beautiful color illustrations on every page perfectly capture the mood of this gentle Christmas story.
1) This is such a cute book to use in the classroom during the Christmas season, with a great moral behind it for the students to learn. This book is about a rabbit that is trying to find the true meaning of the Christmas spirit, searching everywhere. He finds footprints and follows them around everywhere to try and find where these footprints lead. He finally finds that they lead to a small cottage, where there are three children inside gathered by a fire sharing gifts. This is when the rabbit truly finds out the meaning of Christmas is all about giving, and goes home to be with his family. 2)Grade Level: Preschool- 1st Grade, Age level: 3-7 years old 3) Appropriate classroom use of this book could be used around Christmas time during reading or circle time in a PreK-1st grade classroom. 4) Individual students who might benefit from this reading would be students that do not understand the true meaning of the Christmas season, and to be reminded that giving is truly rewarding. 5) As far as small group use, this book could be used to teach children that they should be thankful for what they have and have them write the things that they are thankful for in their home to go along with their gift to their parents. 6) As far as whole group read aloud, this book could be used to show children what Christmas is truly about, not receiving but giving. Therefore, to go along with the small group activity, we would be making the parents a Christmas gift for all that they do for their children. 7) Related Books: Naughty Toes, I Don't Want to Be a Pea!, & The Frazzle Family Finds a Way 8) There is an Audio CD available on Amazon that has other different Christmas books on it as well as this one.
