"We Are the Groovicorns!" by Rosie Greening and Stuart Lynch is a colorful and fun picture book that celebrates individuality and the joy of being unique. The story features a group of vibrant unicorns called the Groovicorns, who love to dance and spread happiness with their funky moves and positive attitudes. Each Groovicorn has its own special talent, and together they create a magical and lively celebration. Through lively rhymes and whimsical illustrations, the book conveys a message of embracing differences and finding joy in being oneself.

For grades K-2, use "We Are the Groovicorns!" to explore the concept of individuality and teamwork. After reading, have students create their own "Groovicorn" character by drawing and describing their unique talents or qualities. This activity encourages kids to appreciate their own special traits and those of their classmates, reinforcing the book's message of celebrating diversity and working together.

I recently read "We Are the Groovicorns" by Rosie Greening and I'm giving it a five star review. As someone who enjoys all things sparkles and unicorns, I thought this book was extra fun and absolutely adorable. I read this story to my 15 month old niece, Harper, and she seemed to really enjoy it. The book features two way sequins which adds a sensory experience and makes the story extra engaging for young children. The vibrant illustrations and the fun tale about magical unicorns add to the overall charm. This book is a delightful read that combines a captivating story with interactive elements that young children will love.

I was surprised that there was a lesson to learn in this book.

It’s about being different and not being perfect and about learning to get along. I would have given it a 5 but the story hits those point but doesn’t take it all the way. Most of it has to be inferred.

Would make a good book to discuss (since not explicitly explained):
1. You do not have to be perfect. Imperfections can be beautiful
2. Don’t judge others on the way the appear to be. Get to know them first. Don’t assume you know what they are thinking

I'll admit, I was not really interested in this book from the start. The sequins on the front were distracting. They are difficult to move in either direction and once sticking up make the book difficult to hold to read out loud to kiddos. The storyline is just so so. It's about differences and celebrating your differences. It's aimed at littles, but my littles didn't get the meaning of the story at all. (Again, I think we were all distracted by the sequins).

This book is about unicorns that are having too much fun. The illustrations are colorful and bright. There are two-way sequins on the front cover of the paperback one. Little girls might like it but mostly is kind of boring. It is just ok. I would skip it for a library collection. Reading level is K-2. Not recommended.

It was so great. Was really fun to read the words come tripping off the tongue and the message is just the best for children.

Meh. It was okay and the lesson is well meant, but we found it sort of boring.

J: I like unicorns and sequins.

Mom: I brought J to a Scholastic book fair a few weeks before her birthday, and she begged and begged for every book and object that had sequins on it. The reversible sequins seem to be on everything right now, this was the first time I saw them on a book.

We ended up going home without anything, but I got on Scholastic book clubs website and ordered this one through the local school, as a special birthday gift.

The story is quite horrible, awkward to read. There are lots of little things to read added on in the back ground of each page, and it gets confusing when the main text isn’t a complete sentence. The sentence continues on the next page, but you have to cut it in half to read all the extra stuff. Or flip forward and back and forward and back, to read each sentence. The story wasn’t that great anyways. The groovicorns don’t like the unicorns, and I guess it threw me off to see unicorns painted in a bad light. And it was confusing because I thought groovicorns WERE unicorns.

A little disappointed I spent $6 on this. Grandma read it once and mom read it once, and it’s not likely to be chosen again.

The two-way sequins on the cover are distracting. It took at least five minutes to try and get the kids to pay attention to the book rather than play with the (extremely sharp and tight) sequins. I also don’t really understand what groovicorns are? They aren’t unicorns. Are they minority unicorns? Are they a different species altogether? I get the message of celebrating different things, but I’m lost on this one.

It was good. I liked it. My favorite was the groovicorn that I think was the chief of groovicorns. I liked that at the end they were all friends.
