I was very kindly sent this book in return for an honest review. This is a wonderful, feel good Summer romance set around one captivating week in the gorgeous setting of Italy and is the perfect escapist read. It is a modern romance mixed with family intrigue, all taking place in the world of the perfume business. Janey Jones has a lovely, addictive writing style that effortlessly takes us through the story with a few unexpected twists and turns. A perfect relaxing read for a warm Summer’s day - or any time of the year!!
Charlotte is a main character who’s working with a lot of different issues. She is currently working far too much, still dealing with trying to overcome grief and pushing to close a business deal that will see her dream of moving to New York a reality. A week in the beautiful Italian countryside is all that stands in her way. The Empire State Building is within her grasp. What could go wrong it’s only one deal and one week? Charlotte has to face, two families at war, as well as actually finalising the business deal, and so much more inbetween. Just when you thought Charlottes dreams were coming true Janey would throw another spanner at our main protagonist. Janey Jones has written a beautiful summer read with not only a wonderful lead in Charlotte Alexander, but a whole ensemble of well developed, loveable and wonderful characters. These along with the captivating backdrop of the Italian countryside makes Perfume Paradiso a summer vacation you never want to end! Thankyou to @lovebookstours, @janeyjones23 and @bwpublishing for letting me take part in this book tour
With a Jack Vettriano painting on the cover, I just knew I had to read this book. I loved every minute of it, just pure escapism into fantastic settings with wonderful writing.
Charlotte has created a fabulous perfume and she needs to secure a lavender field to supply the demand for the scent in her creation. She's also got a new life lined up in New York, but before she can take up that new life off she goes to Italy to find a lavender field. Unlike a too cool heroine you might not have anything in common with, after minutes of arriving in Italy she's been splattered with wine and twisted her ankle in not so sensible shoes. Albeit rescued by a handsome Italian. She's a down to earth and loveable fashionista character.
Her love life doesn't fair much better, but she certainly has her pick of handsome leading men to choose from. While she could choose an Italian stallion she actually goes for an Italian Mare called Calandra over men. There is a beautiful but haunting scene where she rides her out in a storm.
Although she is only in Italy for a week she does pack a lot into that time. As you might expect things don't quite go as planned. Between several visits to Venice (which are described so wonderfully) taking on the local mafia and sampling some fabulous food she partakes in a deal to secure a lavender field.
The story doesn't end there though and we get to experience Charlotte moving to New York and celebrating a New York Christmas, finally fulfilling her dreams. Is there more to the story? Yes! There certainly is, but I will leave you to discover it, just as I did and loved it too.
Loved this book, immediately took me to the Italian countryside, evokes people and places so well you can believe you are there, observing. Thoroughly enjoyable and you can’t beat adding in some beautiful horses too. Very highly recommended for any time of the year when you want to escape into Summer memories.
