J.J. Green is a British-Australian science fiction author with a lifelong love of distant landscapes, intriguing cultures and fascinating places. She was born within the sound of the bells of Mary-le-Bow church in Cheapside, London, making her a bona fide Cockney, and she lived in Australia, Laos and Taiwan before returning to the UK to settle down in Cambridge.

Green’s novels weave science-based speculation with richly personal stories. Her works explore themes of environmental degradation, political conflict, mythical resonance, human resilience, and the ethics of technology and expansion. Her characters—often strong women—navigate future worlds grounded in both scientific plausibility and mythic imagination.

Another installment in the story that is turning out to be rather interesting, even if I thought it wouldn't be at the start.
We find out several new things in this book, all of which add to the family's troubles, and more mysteries about the universe are revealed as well. An interesting read. Looking forward to the next one.

ACCURSED SPACE is the fifth installment in the Star Mage Saga series by JJ Green. The character and world building continues to grow, enveloping you on to the middle of the action.  This is some of the best space opera I've read in years.

Carina Lin has her new found siblings all together on a deep space vessel, hopefully to find the mythical earth. While in deep sleep, their ship is captured by old and new enemies.  They are rudely dragged out of their deep sleep and transported to a planet to be used as slave, food, or worse for the alien Regians. Has Cari led her family and friends to their death?

You will be reading long into the night flipping pages as our mages try to survive the many trials and battles they are forced to experience. Will any of them survive to find their true home, the mythical Earth in an unknown universe

I suggest reading in order, starting with Star Mage Exile, the prequel, available for free when you sign up for JJ Green's newsletter, and it gives a lot of the background.

I did receive a copy of the story from the author.  The above is my honest review.

This fifth book in the Star Mage Saga by JJ Green continued to be an action-packed continuation of Carina's attempts to reach Earth by overcoming the multitude of obstacles continually placed in her way. I can tell you readers one thing for certain, NOT reading all the books in sequence will leave you with many unanswered questions about what happened before and how did it happen, which I found out personally by missing #4. Now, back to the matter at hand. The characters are given so many different and often grisly and gory obstacles to overcome, some of which make stronger and some of which don't survive, as is always the case in battles of which this book has several. The story moves at a rather quick pace so you have reached the end before you were ready for the next cliff hanger twist. I am planning on reading #4, but I am also definitely looking forward to #6 in the series. This is a voluntary review of an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

Do you ever read a book where you read faster and faster, desperately needing to know what comes next? And when you reach that dreaded last page, you want to cry out because there is no more to read? This book is like that and I did both. JJ Green brings sci fi to life with Carina and her siblings as they search for a way to Earth and a chance to be safe together. Each book is truly a blockbuster and has everything you could ask for. What an exciting journey this series is though I like this one the best so far.

3.5 stars.

The world has now expanded to include aliens that use humans as sustenance. You would think that would bring the human factions together but alas it was not to be.

It also looks like the author likes to kill a likeable secondary character in each book to create some traumatic experience for Carina and her siblings. I'm not sure how much the kids can handle all the deaths and killings without going psychotic! Anyway, it's another action-packed instalment and I'm still keen to find out what will happen next.

JJ Green can be a little evil. She gathers the merry crew, gives them a nice starship... and then she introduces/re-introduces baddies to disrupt their travels.

Kill someone? Not a problem.

Carina and her mage siblings (with help from the mercenaries) do their best to defeat each group of enemies while trying to travel to Earth. There are losses to Carina’s crew as well but everybody keeps on trying and fighting.

The characters keep growing in abilities and knowledge.

The continuing saga of Carina Lin's search for her roots.
Another rousing tale in the space opera of a family fleeing across vast amounts of open space in the hopes of finding the birthplace of their ancestors who millennia ago developed magical power. The author builds suspense, develops exciting scenarios, and introduces heartstopping dangers as the story unfolds. Having been greatly entertained by the first four books; I highly recommend this addition to the series.

A Space Opera with Action, Adventure, Romance, and enough twists to keep you spinning! Once you start reading, you will not be able to put it down! The plot twists keep you guessing and flip everything upside down and side ways. Carina's self doubt is as familiar as my own. She does tend to go from the frying pan right into the fire and back again. I cannot wait for the next book!

What an excellent addition to the series! There is, as usual, lots of action and intriguing plot twists, but also a fair amount of character development. I also loved the fact that we got to learn more about the world this is set in. If you're like me, you'll find it hard to put down and will want to read it as fast as you can. I look forward to the next!

Finally on the way to lost Earth Carina and her family board the Bathsheba, the vessel that should be able to travel the distances involved. Along with the remaining Black Dogs they will Deep Sleep for some of the journey... But inevitably, perhaps, all does not work out well.

The series continues with a rattling speed as new enemies are encountered. More, more!

I have found that this series progresses in an integrated way. The character personalities have matched people I have known and worked with. Great Read.
