After her divorce Mattie wanted to put some distance between her and her ex and everything she had been through. She returned to Fool’s Gold and has created a new life for herself so even though she may be attracted to Levi she isn’t looking for love or a relationship until an unexpected inheritance puts her in jeopardy.
Levi has a devastating past so he is determined to deny his attraction to Mattie. That was working well until he finds out she is in danger and now he is determined to keep her safe while he and the team try to find out who is behind the threat before it is too late.
Levi and Mattie take us on an action-packed adventure as while they try to find out the reasons for the suspicious happenings when it comes to the mine they realize that they make perfect partners both in life and love.

A curse? Not likely!
But can Mattie and Levi solve it before the 'curse' claims their life too?
I love that despite her hardships Mattie remains upbeat and cheery, she welcomes characters of all backgrounds into her diner and greets everyone as an old friend. This genuine, cheery nature is what draws Levi to the diner, to Mattie, he doesn't want to be attracted to her....but he can't stay away!
A murder mystery with a deadline this is an enjoyable addition to the Colorado series.

What a beautiful story. Levi and Mattie are adorable!! I love delving back into the Brotherhood Protectors world and visiting the Colorado branch with Gunny and RJ is such a treat.
Levi is a beautiful character. My heart aches for his past pain, his avoidance of bringing his heart back to life because of the pain he doesn’t want to face again.
I was so glad he found a home with Jake and the other guys. A sense of family and support is something we all crave. A sense of belonging.
Watching a tough alpha man acting so sweetly, as Levi did, when his interest is peaked is so heartwarming and made all that much more appealing.
Watching him battling his fear to protect the woman he loves against the evil hunting her made me anxious and crave their HEA.
Mattie is also a survivor. She was strong enough to leave a toxic environment and embrace a new life she made for herself. I adore her strength and backbone. She’s awe inspiring. I haven’t found many people as selfless, open and welcoming as Mattie, which is a shame, because if more people were like her the world … my world would be a better place.
Elle James has once again knocked it out of the park with this story. A fantastic instalment of the Brotherhood Protectors.
Couldn’t recommend highly enough.

Fool’s Folly: Brotherhood Protectors Book 13 is by Ella James. Why would anyone want to own a defunct mine?
Mattie McIntyre loved her diner in Fool’s Gold. It wasn’t much; but it was hers. She loved serving the people in Fool’s Gold and talking to them as she went. Levi Franks was one of the Brotherhood Protectors who came in regularly for her apple pie. He never talked much; but was always the perfect gentleman. Luckily, he was there the day she needed him.
She was serving Joyce Whitley and Marcy Tatum coffee when she noticed a man outside. It was Earl Farley, the man who inherited Fool’s Folly, a cursed mine. The mine had gone through four owners in a short time as died under mysterious circumstances. Earl looked like he was drunk as he headed for the diner. Ignoring the women, Mattie invited Earl in and set about making lunch for him. Levi had also seen him and had come over to help, so he had another cup of coffee while he talked to Earl.
When he left, Earl had left Mattie an unusual tip, a $16,000 gold nugget. Not being sure what it was, Mattie took it to the jeweler. She was determined to give it back. Levi offered to take her to the mine to find him. They did find him; but he was dead. Later, she learned he had willed the mine to her. Was she the next one to die?

The author takes the readers back to Fool’s Gold, CO where the Colorado division of the Brotherhood Protectors is located.
Mattie McIntyre, a native of Fool’s Gold, has been back in town for the last 5 years after a very toxic marriage followed by divorce. She worked hard and now is the owner of the local diner. Her kindness to her customers makes her a favorite of theirs.
Levi Franks, former Delta Force operative, is enchanted by her and makes a daily excuse of stopping by to each a piece of pie and coffee. Though he’s attracted, he’s already loved and lost and has no desire to go through that heartbreak again.
But when Mattie’s life is in danger, he becomes her protector. Who wants her dead? Have the previous owners of the local mine died accidentally or were they murdered?
The story was filled with whodunit and a budding romance. Though still as engaging, it was a little different from previous stories since it was more focused on the couple and less on the rest of the protectors.
Another entertaining story in the series.

(4.5) I admit I am addicted to all the Brotherhood Protectors Worlds. This one was perfect with Halloween. I mean come on a cursed mine. Mattie was a treasure all the way around. I enjoyed her warmth, her strength and her ability to grab what she wants. Levi wasn't sure if Brotherhood Protectors was the route he wanted to go after being released from the military but he sure was enjoying the pie Mattie dished up at her diner along with her smiles and warmth. When the mine is left to her after several generations of death (can you say cursed) Levi sticks close to protect her as they investigate the previous deaths and try and keep her safe. Along the way they get to know each other and steam up some pages. They also learn what had transpired in their pasts that caused them both hurt and see the growth in each other. I did know who the guilty party was when they first appeared on the page, but was still surprised with the hows and whys. Thank you for the arc! A great story. Full of mystery and secrets. The town is known for the Fool’s Folly curse. Every owner for the last few years has died an untimely death when they inherited the mine. Now it's been left to Mattie. She doesn't believe in curses. She is sure that someone is behind all the deaths. And Levi is going to help to solve the mystery.
Mattie owned the diner in town. Levi came in every day for pie and coffee. He rarely spoke to anyone. “As he was leaving one day, when he stepped past her, his shoulder brushed against hers. In his wake, Mattie’s heart pounded, butterflies swarmed in her belly and her shoulder tingled where he’d rubbed against it. For a moment, she felt strangely lightheaded.”
Levi is a former Delta Force Operative. He is the newest member of the Brotherhood Protectors. Single since he’d lost his wife, he had no one to answer to, or tie him down. So why did he go to the diner everyday? “As she passed him, her shoulder brushed against his, sending a shock of electricity racing through him. He’d always had a soft spot for redheads. An incident left him being discharged and no more family again. Getting the lay of the land in Fool’s Gold, Levi find a great cup of coffee and terrific apple pie at Mattie’s Diner.
Married to a negative man who always manipulated her, Mattie is divorced and living back in Fool’s Gold successfully running her own diner. Levi provides almost daily eye candy eating her pie. One day a miner shows up exhausted and hungry. Both Mattie and Levi help him to a table and sit with him. Making sure he has a sandwich to go Mattie discovers Earl left her a strange tip. A gold nugget from his “cursed” mine. That little nugget is worth several thousands of dollars.
Now Earl has been killed and he legally left the mine to Mattie. All previous owners have died somewhat suspiciously. Levi’s first job - protect Mattie. Once again strong women in this series.

If you want an entertaining book, you will want to grab yourself a copy of this book. You will be introduced to Mattie McIntyre and Levi Frank, the main characters, along with other wonderful characters.
Mattie is smart, intelligent, independent, and owner of Mattie's Diner. She is a women recovering from a disastrous marriage, divorced and don't want anything to do anything with men. Levi is a leader, intelligent, strong, a protector, a former Delta Operator, and been offered a position at Brotherhood Protectors. He lost his wife and child years ago, which was extremely painful, and doesn't believe he can commit to another woman.
Little do they know fate has other plans for them. From the beginning of the book, you will be swept up into the lives of Mattie and Frank in Fool's Folly. While we get to know them and go through their love story, we also work through a murder with Mattie and Frank.
The book is action-packed, consistently providing twists, murder, suspense and mystery, emotions, and romance. I enjoyed the book so much I was at the end of the book before I realized it. You don't want to miss this one!

Fool's Folly by Elle James is book #9 in the Brotherhood Protectors: Colorado series. Earl Farley has spent the last year working hard looking for gold in the mine he has inherited from his Uncle Al, the Fool's Folly Mine. Everyone says the mine is cursed, but that hasn't stopped Earl. Earl has decided to show Mattie's Diner owner, Mattie McIntyre his appreciation for all her kindness toward him by leaving Mattie the Fool's Folly Mine in his will. Mattie did not want to come into her inheritance from Earl's death. Hattie is assigned bodyguard Levi Franks from the Colorado branch of Brotherhood Protectors because they don't believe the deaths of the four previous owners of the mine are accidents. Mattie and Levi are discovering they are falling in love after spending a lot of time together. I enjoyed all the sexy times the two shared and I like they found their way to their Happily Ever After. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

This may be one of my favourites in this series with Levi, a retired Delta operative who joins the Brotherhood Protectors in Colorado. He keeps to himself and doesn’t get entangled with women after he lost his wife years ago. But he keeps getting drawn in by Mattie, who owns her own diner in the small town, an independent woman who is also commitment phobic after a failed marriage. When Mattie inherits a mine that is supposedly cursed and she becomes a target, Levi will do everything in his power to protect her as he can’t lose another woman who means the world to him.
Loved this read, no over the top drama, honesty and communication between them, and Levi standing beside Mattie and accepting exactly who she is. Add in the steam, the suspense, twists and turns, and amazing characters all around….kept me flipping the pages.

Once again we are in Fool's Gold and this time we have the story of Levi Frank's former Delta Operator a man who has loved and lost and never intends to fall in love again That doesn't mean that he can't e in love with a woman's pie and he ensures that sometime every day he heads to Maggie's diner to partake of said pie and a cup of coffee. Maggie is a former resident of Fool's gold who has returned after a disastrous marriage and divorce and she certainly has no intention of ever marrying again. But when she inherits a gold mine that has been linked to many mysterious deaths she knows she will need help and Levi is the one assigned to her Can they get to the bottom of what is happening at the mine Can they both let their walls down enough to realise that they are in fact perfect for one another You will have to read to see if we get another HEA

The Brotherhood Protectors series continues to deliver a good mystery with sexy heroes and intelligent women. The town of Fool's Gold colorado says the Fool's Folly mine is cursed after the last 3 owners each died accidentally within a year of taking ownership. When Levi a new member of the Brotherhood Protectors and Mattie the sweet, always-with-a-smile owner of the diner befriends Earl Farley the latest owner of the mine, accidents start to happen. Even though Levi doesn't know Mattie that well his protective instincts kick in. Working together and with some help from the other Brotherhood Protectors they must find out what's happening with the mine. I received an arc copy of this book, read it, enjoyed the story, and have chosen to leave a review.

Lukewarm
Maddy and Levi's story is my least favorite in the series. It is unfortunate because I have enjoyed all of this author's series. This story was completely predictable from the very beginning. It's hard to believe that a Delta Operator, A sheriff's deputy, and a half a dozen Brotherhood Protectors could not figure this out sooner. I think Levi deserved a much better story. This story felt as though someone was rushed to get it out and did not take into consideration what makes the whole series work. This plot was not bad but the execution of it was disappointing for me. This story was lukewarm compared to all of her other series. I am hoping that the next story in the series redeems what happened with this one.

They have a secret attraction towards each other and it’s about to become more, as he’s assigned to protect her.
This is a well written story with fantastic characters. Their feelings are intense and there’s no fighting that kind of intensity. The mystery and suspense are captivating. I can’t wait for more!

Another fantastic story in this series. The author does a wonderful job in painting the landscape for her readers far and wide.
Local diner owner Mattie is popular in town not only for her food but her kindness and positive attitude to all her customers.

He finds himself protecting her after an unexpectant inheritance and the cursed death of previous owners of this mine.

Another book from the series of the brother protectors located in Colorado. Why is this book so special? Because of the simplicity of the characters who have a lot of baggage behind their back yet deep inside they are waiting for a second chance. In this book Mattie and Levi are the main characters; life has not been very kind to them but both are very dedicated towards their community. Their encounter is somewhat special, Mattie has a diner and Levi goes everyday not only to eat her homemade pie but there is something special about the redhead he just doesn’t seem to realize. Only when Mattie crosses danger, Levi finally understands that she’s the one!

I love a good page turner and Elle James always comes through. Levi has joined the Brotherhood but wasn't sure it was right for him. Being a widower who lost the love of his life and his child, he doesn't believe that he will ever find another. Mattie had a horrible divorce and has no interest in finding love. When she inherits a gold mine, she also inherits a protector. Levi works hard to keep Mattie safe, but there is always something that makes it impossible. Loved the book and I am sure you will too.

Wow! Another FANTASTIC story by Elle! This story is about Levi and Mattie. Levi is new in town but falls for the diner's owner - Mattie. It's unfortunate that people have to die in these stories but it makes for a great storyline. This centers around a gold mine and a second chance at love. The suspect is really someone didn't you don't expect but it makes for a great ending. This books does get intense towards the end. Gotta love happy endings. FANTASTIC job Elle! I would recommend this book.

That was crazy!! Enough people kept on dying and they wanted 2 b a so called curse but was it really one or something else? A sweet good old man died out of greed but why? He made sure 2 leave his mine 2 someone that he thinks deserves it cause of her big heart. But will it b worth much 4 the mine and not having answers 2 what happened 2 all those people? Read and find out. Can Matty save herself from a few things like a broken heart, the mine, etc.? Read and decide 4 urself. It had alot of action. I loved how fast pace it is.

A really good story worth the read.
But it had several shortcomings. The story gave information and then another couple of paragraphs later it seemed to forget that information. It portrayed shortcomings and law enforcement, which was disappointing. I know it made for a better story, but it shouldn't be at the cost of protraying the police department as incompetent. Basically they need better proofreaders! I'm 73 years old but I had no problems remembering what was said from one chapter to the other much less one paragraph to the next

Four owners of the Fool's Folly mine die in 4 years. Their deaths were attributed to natural causes. I believe law enforcement is rather incompetent. These deaths should be suspicious not attributed to natural causes and a curse. It takes Mattie and Levi 2 or 3 days to find the real murderer.
The book just seemed too rushed. It was not a good read. There were also a lot of editing problems. Such as missing words and Levi called Chris. Also, at one point there seemed to be a paragraph or two missing. As the reading did not flow.

Back to Fool's Gold and we're at Mattie's diner and Levi comes in every day for coffee and pie. He's a widower not looking for love she has an ex-husband and not sure she wants a relationship, but things kick up when Mattie inherits a gold mine and Levi becomes her protector. So far everyone who has owned the mine has come up dead. Full of suspense, danger, intrigue, romance with a murderer on the loose.

Delta Force Operative Levi Franks is new to the Brotherhood Protectors, and has only had a few cases until he starts going into Mattie's cafe every day to have coffee and pie and to watch her. Mattie McIntyre loves her cafe and the people who come in all the time. When she suddenly inherits a mine, she becomes the next person who may be killed by the 'curse'.
Not if Levi has anything to say about it!
A steamy addition to this series that will keep your interest to the very end!

I love that Mattie and Levi are attracted to each other from the first time they laid eyes on each other but neither one of them is looking for a relationship. Mattie is finally making her dreams come true of owning her own restaurant after getting out of an abusive marriage and Levi had his heart ripped out at the death of his wife and unborn baby. When Mattie’s life is put on the line, Levi is assigned as her protector. It’s a good book and one you will want to read.

After previously losing his wife and child he wasn't looking for any commitment, but his daily habit of pie and coffee at Mattie McIntyre is dinner has him at least attracted to her. When Levi is assigned to protect her after she inherited the cursed gold mine not only does the mystery of the curse continue but Levi and Mattie grow closer and their team work pays off in many ways!
