Simon Peter Richard Ogden, or Sprog to his friends, is on holiday with his aunt in Somerset when he hears about the strange roaring that sometimes disturbs the village. The noise comes from a cave deep in the hills and Sprog discovers that it is nothing less than a dinosaur - with toothache.
I remember one of my favorite things to do as a child was to go to the 'op shops' and pick out a few books, back when kids books cost around 20 cents second hand. I always picked books about animals, but this dinosaur story intrigued me. I remember giggling at the main character's name (Sprog) because my Mum would yell at our elderly dog for humping her slippers, and shriek "Don't let him sprog on them!' so I knew it was something bad, but not what it actually was haha.
I loved the message behind this book, even now. Sprog does everything he can to preserve Minerva, and make sure no one finds out about her. Then the ending, with the egg intrigued me....did it ever hatch? was there a book two?
A fun trip down Nostalgia lane after reading two books I greatly loved many years ago. Five stars.
