Since the publication of Fancy Nancy, Jane O'Connor's closet now boasts so many boas, tiaras, and sparkly ensembles that sometimes friends do not recognize her on the street. She still resides (that's a fancy word for lives) in New York City with her family and their canine companion, Arrow. --from the publisher's website
I just love Fancy Nancy. Really. She's adorable and so utterly...dramatic about everything. Maybe this reminds me of my own child?? Anyway. My favorite part of this story was when Nancy commented that she stayed up until TEN O'CLOCK under the covers, reading beloved Mrs. Devine's Hollywood scrapbook, and she's fairly certain not even movie stars stay up that late. Nancy and I are totally on the same wavelength. It's been quite awhile since I've seen 10 p.m. on a school night, TRUST ME.
I really like Fancy Nancy. I like that children are exposed to a lot of new vocabulary and there is usually a good lesson in every book. In this installment, Nancy has a friend who is a former actress who lends Nancy her scrapbook. Nancy stays up late to look at it and then learns that maybe her beauty sleep is important too.
This is the first Fancy Nancy book that I've ever read. Though I am no longer a young girl, I can certainly understand the appeal. She is like a fancy and polished Junie B. Jones. Her vocabulary is impressive (that's a fancy word for great). In fact, comparing and contrasting Fancy Nancy and Junie B. would be a pretty fun classroom activity. Fancy Nancy learns from her mistakes. She is polite and refined and she is an expert at spelling - practically. It almost makes me want to put on my heels and a fancy dress!
DD chose this book tonight- she is a fan of Fancy Nancy. There is not much depth to these books, but I appreciate this one's simple message (everybody needs rest). My favorite thing about Fancy Nancy books is the way the author expands our little one's exposure to rich vocabulary through Nancy's efforts to make everything (including speaking) just a little bit fancier.
In this book Fancy Nancy was so tired because she stayed up late looking at a scrapbook that Mrs. DeVine lent to her. She needed to return the book the next day. Fancy Nancy couldn’t jump rope or spell her words right in school the next day. She learnt an important lesson that you have to sleep well on school days.
I love how much Fancy Nancy likes herself. Would that we could all like ourselves as well. I love the relationship Nancy has with her neighbor. And I love the lesson she learns about staying up late. And I love her honesty. And I love the compassion of her father. Okay, I love almost everything about this book!
Fancy Nancy is a real favorite of one of my SMART readers this year. I will give the author credit for introducing vocabulary that expands a child's knowledge. My little gal knows, understands, and appreciates the new words, so we toil on through Nancy's many adventures (tutus, boas, and all).
5 Stars! Fancy Nancy decides she wants to stay up late after being told not to. I love how she learns a very important lesson about sleep and listening to her parents. She also decides to be honest and I think this book teaches a lot of good lessons to the little ones about honesty and listening. As well as, what it means to get a good night sleep!
Great message in Fancy Nancy and the Late, Late, LATE Night, about consequences to not adhering to the rules set down by parents.
As always, Fancy Nancy is as colourful and flamboyant as ever. Your child should love this story and it will make a good companion to your Fancy Nancy collection.
Miss 2 loves the Fancy Nancy books. I like the vocabulary building and Nancy is fabulous. This was quite useful for showing her how tired (exhausted!) Nancy is when she stays up too late.
"I like the colorful drawings and when Nancy visits Ms Devine and looks at photos of movie stars. I like when Nancy stays up late and uses her flashlight to look st the scrapbook." - V, age 4
Another cute story. Fancy Nancy is a fun and engaging character. I can see why kids want to keep reading about her as they grow out of picture books and into early readers and beyond.
•Brief summary Fancy Nancy goes to a neighnors house, Mrs. DeVine. At Mrs. DeVine's house Nancy learns all about celebrities. Mrs. DeDive has a scrapbook filled with there pictures and autographs. Nacy is allowed to take it home to look at. When fancy Nancy gets home Dad calls her down to dinner and than its time to spelling words. When she is done practicing, dad tells her it is time for bed. This upsets Nancy because she has not had time to look at the scrapbook. Nancy desides to stay up very late under her covers to look and the book. The next day she is so tired. SHe ends up having a horrible day. Nancy learns that evern fancy girls need their sleep.
•Audience I would read this to kindergarden or first grade
•Appeal I love the detailed pictures. This book also help children how important there sleep is. Without good sleep you cant have a good day at school.
•Implementation I would use this to explain how important sleep is and that everyone needs to have a good night sleep before school. I could send this book home for parents to read with there children. This way the parents can also explain how important getting enough sleep is.
The characters in this book are: JoJo, Devine, Nancy, dad, mom, and friend's dog. This story takes place throughout the neighborhood and during the day and night. The problem in the story was that Nancy stayed up too late because she wanted to look at the scrapbook of the super stars. The problem was fixed when she saw the clock and noticed it was almost 8:00! She stayed up too late and she learned her lesson to go to bed on time because she needs her rest! The lesson we learned from this book is that sleep is more important than play time!
This is about Fancy nancy who stayed up too late and was exhausted the next day. She visited Ms. Devine and they had a talk about her years in Hollywood. she met celebrities and got their atographs. She even had a scrap book that she made. After their talk Fancy Nancy decided to pretend to be a celebrity and she did and pictures were taken and autographs were signed. She got Ms. Devine scrap book and decided to read it even though her parents told her to go to bed. The next day she was so tired she missed three words on her spelling test and could not play during recess.
Audience: The book pulls in a great audience for Pre-K through 2nd grade because it shows the emphasize on time and why parents enforce bedtime rules. This book wil help kids see the rules that some of their parents may enforce as a picture book and in a way to see not only one parent makes kids go to bed early.
Appeal: This book could be a great extension to relevance with time and the hours and minutes on a clock. This book will also help show the type of change a day goes through. For example, the sun rises at 6 a.m. and goes down at 9 p.m., etc.
