Cats are adorable... but... one loveable little kitten wants to make sure you understand what cats don't like before your family brings one home. Cats Don't Like That! is a humorous rhyming book that will make kids and adults giggle with laughter. By multi award-winning dad and accidental author, Andy Wortlock , and the guy who drew all the cool pictures, Nahum Ziersch . "Cats Don't Like That! is a super fun rhyming tale of what cats don't like which, as we know, is basically everything! Andy Wortlock has taken this to the extreme, and the awesome illustrations perfectly complement the craziness of the story! 5 paws up!" Adam Wallace - New York Times, Amazon and USA Today Bestselling author "One of my favorite children's books is Green Eggs and Ham. Andy Wortlock reminds me of that book in Cats Don't Like That! This book is such fun to read." Philip Van Heusen, Readers' Favorite (5 stars) Get your paws on a copy today and keep an eye out for the festive follow-up book coming in late 2022.
Fun illustrations but the rhyming scheme is rough.
In the marketing material, author, Andy Wortlock, makes mention of one of his favorite books, GREEN EGGS AND HAM. That is a book with excellent rhymes most readers will be able to recall some portion of after a single read. It’s been 40+ years since I read it and I still could recall a large portion of that book.
That’s not the situation with CAT’S DON’T LIKE THAT. The title appears repeatedly so that will be remembered for a time but not so with the rhyming: “For instance if you think it’s time to have a game of play, CAT’S DON’T LIKE THAT. We make the calls We’ll simply walk away.” Does it rhyme? Yup. Is it in the same category as: “I would not like them here or there. I would not like them anywhere. I do not like Green Eggs and Ham. I do not like them, Sam-I-Am.” Not in my opinion.
There’s lots of emotion and humor in the graphics that also include a tiny mouse and yarn in most pictures. They are not obvious so the first few readings will have your littles on the lookout. That’s a fun feature as an add on. For those who can’t read, the pictures tell the story fairly well and could coax conversations or even get your kids to make up their own stories.
If you’re a family of cat lovers, this book will be more to your liking. See if you agree with what cats don’t and do like📚
I had the pleasure of reading "Cats Don't Like That!" today and I have to say I absolutely loved it! What a cute book! Having 3 cats myself I can totally relate to it! Let me tell you that although each cat always has their own personality, things are mostly ALWAYS on their terms no matter what! The books illustrations were so perfectly matched to the story text and really brought the story to life! Please pick up a copy today and read for yourself, you will not regret it! I read this book because I love cats, saw the cover and couldn't resist. I am certain children and adults alike will find this book enjoyable!
My girls are 7.5 and they thoroughly enjoyed this book - twice. We had to read it again to allow the time to find the mouse and yarn throughout the book. Super cute!
I read this book at work and it made me giggle *right* when someone walked into my office...
Anyways, this book is absolute fun! It's definitely one that you want to read aloud and really get into it, because it is great for giggles. It's an easy read and the reading flow is rhythmic, which are some of my favorites because of the predictability of the next lines.
The illustrations are super cute and fun, and there's even a challenge to try to find the mouse and the yarn in every picture. And of course, anyone who's owned a cat knows how accurate the book is because he's right...Cats Don't Like That!
Very fun book, I shall have to add to my kids' library!
This is a wonderful book. The illustrations are delightful and the rhythm of the text is throughly engaging thanks to the witty rhymes and apt assessment of cats :)
It’s refreshing to see a children’s book where the only content is good, old-fashioned fun. It will appeal to children and parents alike (grandparents and aunties and uncles too.)
Keep them coming Andy, the world needs more books like this!
Considering a cat? Cats don't like that will give you a few (true and silly) tips for keeping your cat happy.
This book isn't a step by step what not to do. It does cover practical things like letting cats choose when to play and not giving cats baths. It doesn't cover others like gentle touches or speaking quietly. It is fun, silly, and a great introduction into the concept of cats having their own feelings, personalities, and preferences
My son and I love this! It's absolutely adorable! We have a cat ourselves, so it's perfect when reminding kids with visuals that cats don't like the same things that we do. He loves to hug and snuggle our cat, she even sleeps on his bed with him at night, but we must remind him that while she does love her hugs (she really does, she always purrs so long as the hug isn't long) he can't overdo it.
This should have been a fun book to read. It was not. The story line was poorly written. The rhyming was contrived and simply did not make sense in several instances. It was painful to read and difficult to finish. The illustrations were somewhat better. Pass on this book.
This was a fun read for me as well as my grandson as I read to him. The rhythm and rhyme were good. The dislikes and disapprovals of cats were spot on and displayed in a cute and funny way. The illustrations were cute and captured my grandson’s attention. We enjoyed this book and helped to gain another generation of children.
Oh boy, do I ever recognize my own cat in this playful adventure! I`m also receiving some very disapproving looks from him right now for writing this, as he thinks I shouldn`t be airing our dirty laundry in public....The storyline may seem like a stretch, but it`s all in good fun and the illustrations make it all worthwhile.
This beautifully illustrated story let's you know all that's required to keep your pet cat happy and healthy by clearly telling you what they don't like!
Using humor and outrageous situations, children will enjoy this delightful story about a popular household pet.
Has some good facts about cats as well as an activity page that helps to engage the reader and the listener.
I think this is a fun book for students to read. This would be a good book to read as a class. This book is written from the perspective of a cat. This is something I believe students would find funny and they would enjoy to hear the perspective of a cat.
Cats Don’t Like That! By Andy Wortlock and Nahum Ziersch – This was an Amazon freebie. If you get the urge to take a cat to the amusement park, this book would ask you to reconsider lol. Happy Reading!
A cute book to help kids learn some things cats like and others that they don’t. I always enjoy kids books that have things for you to search for. Helped to keep my kids engrossed in the story.
Cute book. The illustrations are fantastic!!!! Bright & vibrant colors younger kids will love. The story is simple and cute. Great bed time story book for younger kids that can turn into an early reader book as they grow.
I added this book to my kindle simply to allow my littles to be able to read to me while we are out or in our spare time. My son enjoyed this book, and learning about the things that Cats DON’T like :) good quick read for my 5 and 6 year old.
I just read this for my four month old and she loves it. We don’t have nor own any cats but it does teach kids boundaries when owning a pet. We do have dogs tho. If only there was a dog version.
Fun book, but some of the humor went over the younger kids heads since we don't have a cat to experience some of these scenarios and they didn't understand the jokes about cats not liking anything. But they asked to read it again because they liked it and enjoyed looking for the hidden mouse!
It was a great book. My kiddos laughed saying it reminded him of his cat. The illustrations are as funny as the words. We had fun searching for the little mouse on most pages. Will be a favorite bedtime read.
As a cat loving Grandma, I've had to save the family pets from baby carriages and doll clothes. And I've had to explain that cats use their claws and teeth to say NO. This book would've helped.
"cute. I didn't like the lion." - Also my three year old.
This is a cute book. As someone who has had cats as pets before, it definitely has a lot of truths about things cats don't like. The illustrations are really cute too.
