One of the most widely adopted primary source U.S. history readers, America Firsthand presents history in the words of the people who made it, inviting and provoking students to think critically about the past. The seventh edition continues to bring the past to life with more visual and textual sources that increase diversity, represent current scholarship, and engage students.
It has taken me almost 11 years to read this book. For starters, the type-face was quite small, and they fit a lot of words on a page. But also, the topics and each recounting were often heavy subjects. They often required deep thought after reading.
I feel I learned so much from this book. It was absolutely worth the read, even having taken such a long time. Everyone should read this. Of course, it's not a complete history (the book is obviously too short for that), but it brings to light a perspective or an aspect of history that might not ever be understood without these collected letters and speeches and interviews.
