About the author

Tomie dePaola (pronounced Tommy da-POW-la) was best known for his books for children.

He had a five-decade writing and illustrating career during which he published more than 270 books, including 26 Fairmount Avenue, Strega Nona, and Meet the Barkers.

Tomie dePaola and his work have been recognized with the Caldecott Honor Award, the Newbery Honor Award, the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award, and the New Hampshire Governor's Arts Award of Living Treasure.

A good way to introduce babies to some classic fairytales. I don’t remember the last one about the shoemaking elves, but the other three tales are pretty common.

In board book format Tomie dePaola sparsely illustrates four well known folktales in this title.

A simple telling of four fairy tales: The Princess and the Pea, Rumpolstilskin, The Three Bears, and The Shoemaker and the Elves. It is nice to see simple retellings of these stories. So many children's books tell fun variations of classic stories that I wonder if my kids would ever recognize the original.

There is a little too much text per page for a board book, in my opinion. Many toddlers would probably not sit through all four stories. I would image the preschoolers would be fine, though.

A birthday gift from Aunt Jennie to Holland. Beautiful board book(there are sparkles on the cover;)Perfect way to introduce the fairy tales to infants and toddlers. There are four stories, The Princess and the Pea, Rumpelstiltskin(I find this story so funny) The Three Bears and The Elves and the Shoemaker. Great bedtime reads.

Beautiful and simple. My daughter was able to predict just by looking at the pictures. This book is a must have.
