As a side note, this story is the first I have read where the author has used gender neutral pronouns for some of the characters. When I read the first use of "their" referring to one character, I hesitated and thought it was a typo. However, as I continued into the story, I realized what the author was doing. Even though this story touched on forbidden love surrounded by death and destruction, I enjoyed the author's phrasing and language use, e.g., nothing diddly with a side of squat, and/or the use of the word assholery. The main characters in the story are demons or angels who have been around for thousands of years, yet find themselves stuck on earth. As such, the story makes use of a number of moral dilemmas as components in the story - many as old as time itself. For example, good vs. evil, deceit vs. honesty, angels vs. demons, love vs. hate, and lies vs. truth are included as key points. An observation made by one of the characters caused me to stop reading and ponder what was said. I even shared the following sentiment with my husband: Even with human failings and weak souls tempted by easy paths, greed and power, humans have created beauty in paintings, sculptures, architecture, film, books and photographs. (my paraphrase)There is quite an interesting spin regarding Michael, the Archangel, and his views toward the gates to heaven and hell, which had been destroyed, resulting in all the angels and demons being stuck on earth. I enjoyed the story, but felt it was a bit too long, hence the 4 stars instead of 5 stars. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Big thank you to BookSiren for providing this free e-ARC in exchange for an honest review!

After the Gates to both Heaven and Hell have been destroyed, demons are left stranded on Earth. Not just them, as they have Archangel Micheal and his team at their heels, determined to eradicate them all.

An interesting twist on a traditional angel and demon story, A Memory of Wings is a love story between Lucifer's personal assassin and Micheal's right hand.

I tend to have a hard time remembering names, whether they be real people or book characters and the author introducing too many characters in the beginning did not help. It was a lovely surprise to see some characters go by gender neutral pronouns, though.

The writing didn't do anything for me. No matter how much I struggled, I could not relate to any of the characters or their distress. I found all characters, but especially Shax and Kheone to be forgettable. Even as I just finished the book, I am already struggling to provide for this review. The only character I found remotely interesting was Aeshma, ironically. Even then, a little one-dimensional.

In all honesty, this book was a 2 star book for me. It got slightly more interesting towards the end so I decided to upgrade it to 3 out of 5 stars. It wasn't neither good, nor bad. Just stunningly average. I feel like in a week, I will have completely forgotten what it was about.

I loved this book. Emily Michel’s style of writing is so easy to read, it just flows, and you know a good book when you don’t really notice the writing, you just immerse yourself in the story. I enjoyed her book, Witch Hazel and Wolfsbane, and this book was just as good if not better.

Shax and Kheone are wonderful charcaters, flawed but resilient, and so right for each other, if they can get passed the aeons of rivalry and hatred. A demon and an angel working together, makes you wonder what whether the heavens might fall, but there is definitely something more to both of these characters, and the journey to finding out what is going to be so much fun.

I cannot wait for the next book, so Emily I hope you are writing already!!

A thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining read. An enemies to lovers, slow burn romance with plenty of intrigue and mystery. I love the fact that no matter what Drax tries to plan, goes wrong, and he finds himself deeper trouble, and yet he manages to find a way out, sometimes!

Angels and Demons have lost their wings

This is the first book in a duology. This is not religious writing it is fantasy. A slow burn paranormal romance with enemies to lovers. The spice is on page but not descriptive. A 1+ on the panty melting scale.

There is the fall when Lucifer was thrown out of heaven. His minions followed him to hell. Angels and demons continued to battle over the souls of God's favorite creation, humans. An explosion shatters the gates of Heaven and Hell sending angels and demons to earth. In this second fall the "beings" lost their wings. Many obtained tattoos of the former glory of their wings.

The FMC, Kheone, is an angel warrior, tasked to hunt and destroy the enemy, demons. Shax, the MMC, is a demon assassin ordered by Lucifer to kill Kheone. Centuries before he tried but could not complete the assignment. Now all he wants is to be left alone. This is the story of how they come to work together.

This story has a nice steady pace. There are plenty of surprising twists to drive this story forward. It does end on a cliffhanger. This is an easy read. I am looking forward to the conclusion of this story. I recommend this for between long or complex stories. Enjoy!

I am sort of an inbetween reviewer on this book- I feel like a book like this - with some plot twists and interesting story is not a complete 5er, but it is within the paranormal romance category, and not epic fantasy, so it is GOOD paranormal romance(I don't finish the bad ones). Good writing and some character building shows great promise for the author. It should have been a 4,5 star from me, because I tend to prefer books between 4-5 myself and this is a great book for summer reading. It entertains and makes you want to complete it. It is not a work of art, yet. It's a trilogy and we have yet to see the storyline develop. But I do like a crazy Michael, Dukes of Lust and angel/demon action to love. It might get to smoochy smoochy for me in book 2 and 3 - I like the slow burn, but lets face it, action is good to!.

I was a bit worried it was a MM romance to begin with, was happy to learn that it was more of a love is love kinda book. The start is fun in retrospect.

Disclaimers aside - I got a ARC and read within 24 hour the entire book. Review here is voluntary and I would really see the author succeed as it is a great second trilogy publishing..

The last time Shax followed his heart he ended up in Hell, this time it might be his only salvation

Title : A Memory of Wings
Author : Emily Michel
Genre: YA fantasy (urban fantasy)
Format: eARC
Tropes :Enemies to lovers , forbidden love and the chosen one

[Character davelopment] ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

What I really loved is the representation of queer characters, the way the author used the pronouns they/them was something that I haven't read in books before and I found it quite unique! And I loved the main characters Kheone and Shax they were amazing!

[World building]⭐⭐⭐⭐

The world building was incredible!! It gave away the fantasy feel and I felt that I was a part of that world but the descriptions could have been better:)

[Writing style]⭐⭐⭐⭐

The writing was immaculate and the descriptions were good! But I felt the conversations between the characters could have been better it didn't connect well !

[Overall]⭐⭐⭐⭐

It's a solid 4 star for me and I would totally recommend this book to fantasy readers!!

I got this book as an free ARC from the author and am pleasantly surprised (this is my genuine review - not paid for by author). I love a good "enemies to lovers" trope and this book did not disappoint. The story follows the two perspectives of Shax and Kheone after some time has past from the "Second Fall". The First Fall being Lucifer & his angels falling from Heaven. The Second Fall is when the gates of Heaven & Hell are demolished and the angels and demons fall to live amongst the humans. Shax, being a higher level demon, has orders to kill Kheone but with Lucifer out of the picture, he is trying to decide how he wants to live while the orders buzz in his head. Kheone is an angel with the rank of Lieutenant under the last surviving Archangel, Michael. In this book, you will witness their flashbacks of fighting before the fall and their jolting reunion on Earth, that leads to an unlikely duo learning to trust each other to get answers. Trust that turns into more than friendship and a battle uncovering secrets that they never saw coming. Cannot wait for the sequel!!!

Absolutely Loved

This was a very fantastic read. I have read books with angels and demons but this one was very unique in plot. You dont get full on biblical stuff although it talks of god and lucifer. I love the character growth that happens in the book to both main characters. Shax is a demon who up until the gates to hell blew up was very loyal. Now that he's stuck on earth he's been trying to stay away from angels and demons alike. Thats until he discovered by one of his fellow demons and forced to flee. He has a job to do that hes been trying to avoid but now hes going to do. Kheone is an loyal angel fighting demons and killing them. She and her troop of angels have been working to fix heavens gates. One of her angels was very close to answers then all of a sudden murdered. Khenone must figure who did it and why. Now she must trust Shax a demons of all things. I just loved this book i cant wait to read the next one!!!!!

Shax Is one of Lucifer's most feared assassins. But he's stuck on Earth and is tormented. He runs into kheone who is an angel who is tracking down demons on earth. With a deal to help each other likely foes shax and kheone, starts to build a relationship. This enemy still lovers was amazing! I really enjoy the story as well as the struggles that both parties have to face. This is full of things I love and they may still lovers, slow burn and steamy. Were your angel making a deal with the devil, demon assassin falling for his target. The story was steamy and full of action and steam. Love it

A very interesting story. The view is one of Angels and Demons, who have been around since eternity, are trapped on earth. The story has very interesting twists and tangles, We have a Lucifer's assassin who is on the run. We have two others that are working hard to figure out the puzzles that might once again open ths gates to heaven and hell. A really intriguing story. I received this novel through Smashwords. This is my true and honest opinion.

Fast paced fantasy romance

I really enjoyed the characters of angels and demons. Also that that angels are seen has these perfect beings and demons and evil. This book shows that labels are not always what they seem. I was fast paced and flitted between Khoene's and Shax's POV alot. You thrown head first onto the story but has it carried on you got an idea as to why. Good read ends on a huge cliffhanger and need the second book.

This was an enjoyable read overall, but I found it hard to get sucked into the story as I usually do with a really good novel. More showing and less telling would help with this, perhaps. I’d read a follow up book if there is one, most likely. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Not your ordinary angel demon story. The Heaven's gate and the Hell gates have crashed. All angels and demons have fallen to Earth. One angel, Kehone and one demon, Shax, who have been after each other forever, now have to work together. They are trying to find out what happened and rebuild the gates if possible. I love this book. I can't wait to see what might happen next for them.

Seriously on love, already can't wait for the next one to be published. The characters are brilliant, well written and am pretty sure my favourite angel based story I've ever read to date.

Shax refused to kill the guardian angel Kheone. He is being hunted by the duke of hell and the archangel Michael. He realizes that he is in love with her. Will he kill her ? Can she be saved in time? Does she have feelings for him? Can she forgive him?
