It's not one of those books, that teach you about human body proportions, how to draw proper perspective and other basic stuff. 95% of books on this subject that I've seen do just that, it gets annoying after a while.
This is a book for advanced artists who already have relevant skill and knowledge, and who want to switch from traditional to digital painting. Also for people who have some experience in digital painting, but want to know more tricks and how-tos.
Basically it's a compilation of advanced tutorials (mostly for Photoshop, but there are also some for Corel Painter and other graphic software) by many different authors, who teach you about certain techniques (painting a human body, a city, an illustration, a science fiction scene etc) step by step (with relevant illustrations). It begins with a very useful chapter about making your own custom brushes, which can imitate real life brushes, and then there are further 200+ pages of highly useful and awesome stuff. Having many different authors in one book is also good, it reminds you that there is no One True Way of doing something, but that in some cases there are different approaches and they're all equally valid.
Having read this book I'm already doing better at my digital painting, and I'm sure I'll be going back to most of these tutorials in the future. Highly recommended.
This book is not for beginners. It assumes you have fairly proficient drawing skills and a working knowledge of graphics software programs. Various artists give tutorials on advanced techniques that will take your digital art to the next level. Highly recommend for the serious digital artist. There's lots to be learned in this book; I'll be looking for the next volume.
The print equivalent of a detailed YouTube tutorial, with the added benefit of not having to spend the time searching for the information. Not a beginner resource; it assumes knowledge of PS and drawing basics, at minimum. A solid reference for intermediate to advanced tips and tricks.
Firstly, the images in this book are stunning! Such great artists are featured in here. I love all the tutorials in here, especially the human section and speed painting. You need some knowledge of photoshop to find this fully useful, it's a great book, and I'm looking forward to getting the others!
How professionals in digital art work. Their processes may look simple at the beginning but their end results are of amazing quality and detail. This is really not for beginners, talk about custom brushes! Will read again for reference in the future.
