Johnny Gruelle was an American artist, political cartoonist, children's book author and illustrator (and even songwriter). He is known as the creator of Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy. He had such confidence in his design that often he would create the final ink work without first sketching in pencil.

Awful... just awful and no i don't care if i'm being mean ;) . I somehow gave the first of these books 4 stars. That one had a sort of Toy Story vibe to it, there were some humans about and at least some minor elements of jeopardy.
This time however there is nothing to mitigate the tweeness. I mean the tellytubbies are more hardcore than this lot... probably more educational too :P . I did actually give it an extra star for some of its animal characters, even if the information about them was about as reliable as the the Just So Stories :P . However i took the star back due to the terrible repetitiveness of the tales. It became almost Scooby-doo-esque with almost every story ending the same way, except everyone has cake and soda-water instead of arresting the old creepy guy :) .

These are delightful fantasy stories for children ... with wonderful language, and beautiful lessons of kindness and helpfulness. I especially loved the repetition of the phrase "in the deep, deep woods, filled with fairies 'n' everything" ... I enjoyed the button-holes that could be carried in a pocket, and then made holes in fox's suit... all the whimsical things and all the fun, and funny, characters. Just a wonderful reading experience!

Jan 2019 ... a delightful re-read. I enjoyed it so much this time through. The stories are all positive lessons, such as "be kind", "be generous" and "treat others the way YOU want to be treated". The characters are all so delightful, and from the animal kingdom except for Raggedy Ann and Andy, who are quite magical. All fun, light, and very uplifting.
