A simple (but thick) book to have on the shelve that serves great for references and as the title says, a guide to practically everything. Although in this context, everything American. I have a dozens of books like these inherited from my family members though it does bear worth remembering that knowledge is constantly being updated with new findings and facts. I particularly enjoyed the section on personal finance, food and home maintenance. The NYT Practical Guide to Practically Everything is a carefully curated and compressed collection of articles that have appeared in the organisation's publications - condensed but enough to give you an idea about the subject matter. Deeper research and reading is required if you'd like to know more. Otherwise, great to just have on the shelf if just for brief reference.

A wonderful go-to-guide for just about every practical (sometimes impractical) situation. Fun & easy to read. Most references are timeless insuring that you will read this book often. Sometimes just for kicks.

Very interesting. There are tidbits about just about everything: weather forecasting, how to survive a plane crash, a list of films you "haven't seen".... Fun, informative, and thought-provoking.
