If you are a person who grew up in India or have anything to do with the country then it is inevitable that you will have heard about Birbal or Tenali Raman

Devika Rangachari’s The Wit of Tenali Raman has simple and plain language, but is delightfully written. The target audience of the book are mainly primary school children, but that doesn’t mean adults can’t enjoy it.

If you feel like reading something light and fun then I’d recommend this book. It is a quick read – took me less than an hour, start to finish. If you know a child, starting out on their reading adventure then get them this – Strong recommendation

The wit of Tenali Raman
By Devika Rangachari
Published by Scholastic publication

We get read quite a few interesting stories about Tenali Raman and his wits. He is regarded as one of the most popular folk figures. He was also a royal jester at the court of Krishna Devaraya of Vijayanagara in Andhra Pradesh. Krishna Devaraya was a mighty warrior who rarely lost a battle but treated his enemies with honour. From childhood Raman was a pranker. He was not a good student but quite witty. He lost his father and was living with his mother and uncle. Recommended by a sanyasi he prayed Maa Kali and got reward. Every chapter has a wonderful stories.
To read that wonderful stories I will recommend you to read this book.
