This book would be absolutely indispensable for most journalistic or scholarly writing about the Middle East. Although there is a very slight difference in focus, this book is essentially an update of the same author's earlier reference work, , which itself is well worth the time and effort required to get hold of a copy. Between the two books, one can find the basic facts on any political movement, prominent family or individual within the Middle East throughout nearly the entire arc of the twentieth century. In addition, as an added bonus on top of its value as a reference work, they make fairly fascinating reading...
