He was a half-breed as hard and proud as his Seminole ancestors, bitter about his elegant Bostonian mother's abandonment of him, and a bounty hunter, tougher than the criminals he tracked. Andrew Fox was dangerous to the men he hunted for a living and to the women he chased for pleasure. He needed no one -- until Lucinda Warren came to town.
Shy, reserved Lucinda was as civilized as Fox was wild. He knew she was wrong for him -- and he fought against his passionate need for her. She was the most precious prize he had ever captured, and to keep her he was, finally willing to pay the highest price of all -- his love.
{From Amazon} "I am Doreen Owens Malek, author of over forty books and lifelong fan of romantic fiction. I live in PA with my husband and college student daughter, a mini dachshund and a sun conyer parrot. I would like to tell you a little about myself.
I came to writing by a circuitous route, starting out as an avid reader of JANE EYRE and WUTHERING HEIGHTS and GONE WITH THE WIND and REBECCA and any other similarly themed books I could find. I first worked as a teacher and then graduated from law school when I desired a more lucrative and independent career. I had always been discouraged from pursuing a writing career by the volatile nature of the business and the relatively poor chance for success. But the realization that I needed a focus for the future encouraged me to do what I had always wanted to do. I sold my fledgling novel to the first editor who read it, and I have been writing ever since. I have written all types of books for all types of people, but my favorite literary pursuit is and always has been romance. Nothing is as rewarding as hearing from my readers, so please use my website to communicate your thoughts and criticisms, as I am always eager to learn from you.
A romance novel rarely disappoints me: in an uncertain world filled with tragedy and sadness, reading about an appealing woman finding a strong man to love her and share her life is the perfect escape. I like to read and write stories in which the main characters overcome obstacles to get together, and then stay together because their mutual devotion cannot be denied no matter what else is happening around them. They always HELP each other and reinforce the quaint but enduring notion that love conquers all - at least in the fictional universe of my imagination. So pull up a chair and take down a book- or pick up a Kindle- and join me in a world where the heroes are tough and headstrong but never boorish and the heroines are feminine and sympathetic but never helpless."
If a guy is rude, if a guy says he doesn't want you, if a guy throws you out of his life, you don't offer yourself on a tray for him. It doesn't matter if you are still a virgin at old age and if he is a handsome, tall, hot, rich guy. Five Negative Stars! I quit! Guys, I don't usually swear, but guess what? A bad book, a waste of my precious time, makes me MAD! So, pls, bear this with me: I'm banging my head on the wall for having read until 59%: After Drew puts the door of Cindy's friend's apartment down, he accuses her of not wasting time to find another guy. She tenderly explains [ARGH! You don't need to explain yourself!] that she was having a friendly dinner with her thesis advisor [WHILE DREW was having dinner, in the same restaurant, with a beautiful brunette. But she doesn't ask him about his date.] And, ooooooh, suddenly Drew repents and- WAIT. I'm sorry but I have to quote: 'Look, can we start over again? I've been missing you, and I think I made a mistake last week, saying what I did. Maybe we should give it another try.' You see, Cindy, even he knows he is a rude jerk. From the start, this hot, tall, handsome, rich jerk has been saying rude thinks and apologizing, but YOU, CINDY, YOU don't see this, do you? You keep excusing him in your sweet, polite way. PLEASE, CINDY, DON'T MISTAKE POLITENESS FOR DUMBNESS. Back on track: Cindy's pulses [I guess the author meant pulse] leaped, but she maintained the outward appearance of calm. 'I don't know if that would be such a good idea, Drew,' the stupid, devoid of self-esteem virginshe replied carefully. 'Why not?' [OH... As if he didn't know!] 'Because I don't think you've really changed your mind about us. You saw me tonight and you're reacting emotionally. The basic problem remains.' GUYS, the PROBLEM is: Cindy is a virgin and Drew doesn't want to be the first to f*** her. WAIT. WAIT. WAIT. IS A MAIDENHEAD A PROBLEM? Guess what? Another author thinks it is! And then comes the brilliant answer of the hot guy! Are you all sat? 'Aren't we the sensible little miss?' he said acidly. 'As logical as a computer. And just as cold.' You know what Drew? GO F*** YOURSELF!
I wanted to really like this one, but it just fell flat. The writing was a little dry. There were some areas in the story that had a lot of details about nothing. They felt like fillers.
Paula...the BFF was just annoying and sounded like the jealous friend from page one. Why Cindy took any of that idiot's advice is still a mystery to me. Towards the end I felt like maybe Cindy, the heroine, was masochist since she had Paula in her life. Only someone who would love pain would have that "thing" as her friend. Nothing every came out positive from Paula's mouth.
The hero was pathetic. He would say something hurtful to the heroine and then a day later come back to the heroine and apologize. Of course, Cindy, being as weak as she was, always forgave him with a wink and a smile. Even in the end there was not groveling. I think he had to say "I am sorry" twice instead of his usually one. He told her he did not want her more than once!!! How many times does the guy have to tell the girl that before she gets the clue!?!?!? The hero was a jerk. I did not like him and Cindy was too weak of a heroine for me to want to support. The hero know he will always be able to say what ever he wants to her and she will always come back. No swoon moments here.
I liked the characters but I would have wished to have the author deepen the storyline, giving more détails about his life, her choices. her encounter with his grandfather that something will be developped, You had numerous very interresting hints but that was it, no devlopment unfortynately. still a sweet story
Ok , not only was this an educational read on an old way of life for the poor persecuted indian. It was a love story about two totally different cultures in America, I enjoyed it.
Cindy goes to Florida to stay with her former College Roommate. Cindy is researching Seminole Native American Stories for her thesis. When she meets Andrew who is 1/2 Native American, she falls hard for him. She has never had a steady boyfriend, has never been interested in sex. Now she sees what all the fuss has been about. Andrew is a love em and leave him kind of guy. His mother had a brief affair with his father. She returned when Andrew was a baby, but only long enough to leave him to be raised by his dad and grandfather. He is attracted to her, but finds he can't leave her. What is it about her that he can't let her go? Why after such a short time of knowing Andrew does she decide to give him her virginity, even knowing he will probably not be around for the long haul? Her research is completed, she moves back home. Can she forget her hurt and pain over Andrew by immersing herself in teaching and completing her thesis? Andrew is a Bounty Hunter with lots of enemies. Worrying about his health and well being is one stress she won't miss.
I'm giving this 2.5 stars. While it was a quick read that wasn't written poorly you get sick of Drew's attitude and his issues that keep popping up. That kept me from liking him and connecting with him at all. Because this is a novella of course everything moved quickly so some of it may be a little unbelievable in that time frame plus you have Cindy trying to write her thesis which she barely spends time on.
As a person with one parent white and the other Native American (not Indian, those people come from India in Asia), I found the back and forth emotions of Drew accurate. The characters interaction started and stopped but sometimes that is the way people with strong personalities interact on their journey to find each other. Personally I enjoyed An Indian Affair.
I liked this book very much. It was hard at first to believe the characters fell in love so fast and even harder since we weren't able to see it through Drew's perspective. But once the story got going it was a really sweet love story. I liked it but not as much at An Indecent Marriage.
This was a fairly good story but one I felt I had read before. There is nothing all that unique about it other than being a little dated. but overall a nice, easy read with believable characters.
NICE ROMANCE BETWEEN A HALF SEMINOLE/WHITE MAN DREW & A CAUCASIAN WOMAN CINDY. IT WAS OK BUT IT READ TO MUCH LIKE Y/A BOOK WAY TOO TAME FOR ME. IT WAS CUTE BUT BORING.
