Robert J. Smith is the agent for Gatsby cat. Smith's duties include: -Translating and transcribing Gatsby's adventures -Managing Gatsby's business affairs and public relations -Litter box maintenance
This is one of the cutest detective novel I have read so far, and that is saying something considering I do not like cats that much too. Gatsby and Yoshi are Petectives - Pet Detectives. They are house cats but has the mind of detectives. Yoshi is more of a thinker and Gatsby is the eyes in the pair of them.
It is a short story and hardly a half an hour read. But it is interesting and funny and very much smartly written. For animal lovers, detective mystery lovers, thriller lovers, this book is for literature lovers, which includes everyone. It is a wonderful read, even in a short story. An absolute 5 star book.
And what is the cutest thing about the book? The authors description of himself, as given in Amazon.com. It has to be checked, it is as below:
"Robert J. Smith is the pen name for Gatsby the cat. Gatsby lives with a human family and his friend Yoshi. Gatsby has held positions as a food critic, actor, mattress tester, mouse chaser and is proud of ability to type without opposable thumbs."
~Cats & Dogs acting like detectives ~I am a sucker for seasonal stories. And I love detective stories. So, I figured this one could be interesting. I made an assumption…that this would have real people as the main characters and the pets (cats and dogs) would be satellite characters. Hummm…I was wrong. ~I do have a little issue of believability and creditability with talking, logic thinking animals. Anthropomorphism is when animals take on the characters of humans…Saturday morning cartoons and comic books have been using this literary style for decades. I simply wasn’t’ expecting it in a murder mystery genre. ~To my surprise, I found that the longer I read the story, the more I was enjoying it. It is not a serious mystery story, but it is an enjoyable story with a simple twist at the ending. ~I will say that, for me, the highlight of the story was the main character, Gatsby’s, explanation to all the other animals about the Christmas story. I found this hilarious. I think it was a nice touch to have the other main character, Yoshi, make Scriptural references to the actual Christmas Story. ~I would recommend this to anyone wanting a light, pleasant, easy-going mystery read.
This is a cute book with a very simple mystery. It isn't labeled as middle grade (that I could see), but it feels like a middle grade book. I do like the charm of the animals in this book. It's very cute. I would like to point out to readers that this particular book has a bit of a religious view of Christmas presented as opposed to just the secular. Depending on your own viewpoints that may or may not really work for you. Overall it was fun and cute. Worth a read.
Gatsby and Yoshi are pet detectives, while owners are gone Gatsby wants a Christmas party. Common sense Yoshi said no to all the filth that would be coming in the house. Some tainted meat, on a case he was ask to look into, almost was the last of Gatsby. Cute story.with a different rendition of the Christmas story.
This was a fast-paced story trying to find a would-be murderer cat. I like how the animals worked together to find the would-be murderer and a fair solution for all. The author added lovely touches of humour, making it a great entertaining story.
This was a very cute story in which the cats and dogs talk with each other. One dog was poisoned and the cat detectives are on the case to find out who the animal or person is.
These books, even though the stories are not very complicated, are really cute. The Christmas book , I think , is a kind of feel good Christmas story,I enjoyed it.
The Petectives are two cats, Gatsby and Yoshi, who solve crimes in their neighborhoods. The series is narrated by Gatsby, and it is told from a very catcentric point of view. In this installment, a loud neighborhood dog named Thor ate a piece of poisoned bologna and his housemate a cat named Penelope hires the Petecives to find out who might have in for the dog.
A cute kitten named Chuck, a Christmas party, and Gatsby's rendition of the Christmas story are also highlights of this little novella.
Looking forward to reading the next in the series.
**I received this book for free under the First Reads scheme**
A short enjoyable little cat detective story that isn't going to win any awards or attract much attention I'd imagine but I can see it as a nice story for younger children who have pets to read and let their own imaginations run wild.
