The Fuzzy Duckling
A duckling meets other animals, including "two frisky colts" and three spotted calves," but none will join him for a walk through the woods. Little ones will love all the fuzzy, furry, feathery animals in this classic counting book.

I had the opportunity to visit with a friend and check out a few boxes of children's books she had kept from her childhood and her son's. The books are quite old and many are out of print, so it was a wonderful chance to revisit with some stories I read when I was young and to discover others I'd never seen before.

A counting book about a duckling who wanders from home trying to find someone who will walk with him. After a long search through some classic farm animals, he finally finds his family... ducks who want to walk, too! Great illustrations and a good introduction to counting and farm animals for toddlers.

I remember my sis and I had a copy of this book, so I know I've read it (probably a couple hundred times), but I'll be damned if I can remember a single thing about the plot or main character. This one was not a favorite.

I expected more from this book; I just think the story could have been better. Fuzzy duckling meets different animals (in numerical order - ex: 4 noisy turkeys, 5 white geese), but no one will walk with him. Finally he finds his family and falls in line with the other ducklings.

Love the illustrations! The board book format of some of these classic Little Golden Books is really great.

I did not like t because it was sad and that no one would go for a walk with him but i like the part where the family goes for supper.

Review: I rate it 5 stars because of its educational value.
Summary: the fuzzy duckling goes on a walk straying from his family, he comes upon different animals throughout his walk asking if they want to walk with him. A pig then say you might want to get home because it's supper time. The duckling finds himself lost until his mother and other siblings pop out behind a bush. he get in line with all the others and they go home together to have supper.
Although it's a small book, it has counting number, different animals, and the pictures are very detailed in each page.

I read this book over and over every night to my oldest son. To this day, I can still recite the story by memory. I now have 2 copies waiting for when my sons have children of their own

Cute story of a duckling trying to find some animals to walk with it. Teaches counting and animal recognition. Sweet, somewhat predictable, ending.

This may possibly have been the first book I read on my own at the end of first grade, when I realized I could read on my own. After that I never stopped.

3* writing - the sentences do not flow as well as they could, however the pictures are lovely and the story is perfect for my 18 month old. He likes it quite a lot.

I’ll start by saying that the reason I rated this book a 4/5 stars instead of 2-3/5 is because of the beautiful illustrations all throughout. I chose this book as an example of a counting picture book and while the story did count 1-10, I found the rest of the plot to be a little boring. This fuzzy duckling goes out for a walk and asks the various farm animals he passes along the way if they’d like to walk with him, to which all these animals decline. Eventually, he comes across 8 pigs who tell him he’d better go home soon for supper time. For a moment, the fuzzy duckling becomes lost and cannot find his way home until the mother duck with her 9 other ducklings find him. They then return home for supper and the fuzzy duckling remarks that this is the best way to go for a walk— with his family. As I mentioned before, the illustrations in this book are beautifully done in what I believe is water color paint possibly. These illustrations enhance the book even more than the story does in my opinion. The colorful and soft appearing animals draw the reader (and I could imagine the little listeners too) into the book and make the story more engaging to read/listen to. I just wish the plot were more creative or unpredictable. Not a bad book, just not a great one either in my opinion.

The Fuzzy Duckling is a sweet, comforting story about a duckling exploring the world and finding safety at the end of the day! My nana would always read this to me, which makes it extra special to me. It feels calm and familiar, like my old bedtime routine wrapped in a book. This story brings back that cozy, safe feeling and reminds me how much those quiet reading moments really matter yo kids.

A lot of little Golden books haven't aged well, but this one about a little ducky who goes out on an adventure is truly a classic. So many fun things to see, and at the end of the day, one mama duck patiently waiting.

Mildly cute counting book with baby farm animals illustrated by the Provensens.

The best part of this book is the illustrations. It's educational for toddlers as there are farm animals introduced. Easy to follow and lovely

Some of the pictures are actually fuzzy! The story is a bit tedious.

Definitely a good classic number focused book for children. I liked the simple text and the clear illustrations.
