Walter Elias “Walt” Disney (December 5, 1901 – December 15, 1966) was an American film producer, director, screenwriter, voice actor, animator, entrepreneur, entertainer, international icon, and philanthropist. Disney is famous for his influence in the field of entertainment during the 20th century. As the co-founder (with his brother Roy O. Disney) of Walt Disney Productions, Disney became one of the best-known motion picture producers in the world. The corporation he co-founded, now known as The Walt Disney Company, today has annual revenues of approximately U.S. $35 billion.
Disney is particularly noted for being a film producer and a popular showman, as well as an innovator in animation and theme park design. He and his staff created some of the world's most famous fictional characters including Mickey Mouse, a character for which Disney himself was the original voice. He has been awarded four honorary Academy Awards and has won twenty-two competitive Academy Awards out of fifty-nine nominations, including a record four in one year, giving him more awards and nominations than any other individual. He also won seven Emmy Awards. He is the namesake for Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort theme parks in the United States, as well as the international resorts Tokyo Disney, Disneyland Paris, and Disneyland Hong Kong.
Disney died of lung cancer in Burbank, California, on December 15, 1966. The following year, construction began on Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. His brother Roy Disney inaugurated the Magic Kingdom on October 1, 1971.
The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) (commonly referred to as Disney) is the largest media and entertainment conglomerate in the world in terms of revenue. Founded on October 16, 1923, by brothers Walt Disney and Roy Disney as the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio, the company was reincorporated as Walt Disney Productions in 1929. Walt Disney Productions established itself as a leader in the American animation industry before diversifying into live-action film production, television, and travel. Taking on its current name in 1986, The Walt Disney Company expanded its existing operations and also started divisions focused upon theatre, radio, publishing, and online media. In addition, it has created new divisions of the company in order to market more mature content than it typically associates with its flagship family-oriented brands.
The company is best known for the products of its film studio, the Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group, today one of the largest and best-known studios in Hollywood. Disney also owns and operates the ABC broadcast television network; cable television networks such as Disney Channel, ESPN, and ABC Family; publishing, merchandising, and theatre divisions; and owns and licenses 11 theme parks around the world. On January 23, 2006, it was announced that Disney would purchase Pixar in an all-stock transaction worth $7.4 billion. The deal was finalized on May 5. On December 31, 2009, Disney Company acquired the Marvel Entertainment, Inc. for $4.24 billion. The company has been a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average since May 6, 1991. An early and well-known cartoon creation of the company, Mickey Mouse, is the official mascot of The Walt Disney Company.
This book is about the alphabet using Disney characters. This books relates to me because my mom used to read this book to me as a child. My mom also made Disney a huge part of my childhood so much that it is now a part of my adulthood. We love Disney in my household and reading and ABC book about Disney was also so cool to me. This was my favorite alphabet book growing up because it talks about the Disney characters doing different activities that start with a letter of the alphabet. It was also a fun way to learn about the alphabet as a child.
In my collection of alphabet books, one of my favorites is Walt Disney Alphabet A-Z. One of the goals while teaching preschool age children was to increase their vocabulary. In this book using Disney characters it gives many examples of words starting with each letter and the word written beside the picture of each item. Then they show the pictures and ask the child to name items for each letter using pictures. Making the reading interactive increases retention and increases vocabulary while having fun.
This is one of the best ABC books I've ever come across. Not only do you learn what 'A' looks like, but also vocabulary words (plural!) for each letter. Then after 4-5 letters or so, there is a page full of pictures you just went over, so the child can point to the picture and tell you the vocabulary word, and what letter it stars with. Excellent.
Great little book with lots of examples of words that start with each letter. Disney characters are used throughout the book as well. After a group of letters, there are pages with the pictures so that you can identify the object shown.
This was really interesting because it had weird colorations of some characters, some obsolete(?) characters, and some interesting versions of characters. I also really like how it invites readers to help tell the story as well.
Nice and easy for kids to follow along. I like how the pictures match the letters so when kids say the words of the pictures they can hear the letters.
This is a classic delight to most. I remember reading this when I was really little. This is a great book to have handy in a kindergarten classroom. I love how after some of the letters are introduced, questions are asked to the reader about what those letters that they just read were and how to use them.
Lots and lots of examples for each letter of the alphabet using Disney characters to illustrate and tell a short story. i.e. for ‘S’: “Snow White sits on the stairs and watches Sleepy’s super somersault. But he falls asleep! Sweet dreams, Sleepy.” And so forth.
This book incorporates characters that students know, into their ABC's. Not only is it good for sounds and letters, but also because it gives the reader the chance to tell what is going on, just based on the illustrations.
my nephew will be so excited that he finally got book 1! this is a great introduction to the alphabet utilizing Disney characters. it is great on repetition and is much better than other alphabet books because it follows up with activities that require thought, analysis, and creativity.
This is my favorite alphabet book. I love looking at the letters and hearing the sounds. It's great for helping me to learn my alphabet and the sounds of letters.
This book contains a list of words in alphabetical order. Using Disney characters, a child can learn new words and the letters of the Alphabet. Fun to read.
