IT’S THE PARTY OF THE YEAR. CHAMPAGNE, CAVIAR . . . AND MURDER.
The anniversary celebration at the inn where Susan and Jed Henshaw spent their honeymoon promised to be a night to remember. And it was . . . for all the wrong reasons. For by evening’s end, Ashley Marks became the ultimate party pooper. She was dead, apparently poisoned, her body hidden beneath a pile of gifts on the bed in the Henshaw’s room.
Ashley certainly wasn’t popular in social circles, but who at the soiree disliked her enough to knock her off? Following a cold trail of clues, Susan tracks down a killer whose roots may be buried deep in Ashley’s past, along with deadly secrets. . . .

I've been binging this series and like some titles more than others. This one I really did enjoy - I thought the mystery was good, the characters were interesting and the killer made sense (not something I can honestly say about some of the other entries in this series!) However there were one or two things that bothered me - notably why did the author rename Kathleen's daughter? Perhaps it was a typo but she kept being referred to as Emily instead of Alice. The other thing that bugged was, of course there are going to be red herrings, it's a mystery novel after all, but there were a few things that get tossed around and are never resolved. I don't like loose ends!
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

I have enjoyed the Susan Henshaw mysteries. I think this is the 14th in the series and still very entertaining. Good characters/ fast read.
That's 60 books read in the first half of the year. Read and reported on at least. Wolzien writes books that draw you in and make you want to know what happens. This one is no exception. What a vivid image--to unstack your anniversary gifts and there on the hotel bed is the body of your next door neighbor. Good surprise killer as well.
good cozy mystery in long running series about housewife/sleuth, Susan, and her friends. The series started when her children were young and they are now adults. Fun to see how things change and yet don't change over time. Absolutely clean but some mild language.
This book had a lot of mistakes in it, and at least one major inconsistency. Kathleen and Jerry's daughter is named Alice, not Emily. I'm not quite sure how an author makes that kind of mistake.....
